Combat Ranking - Do Elite NPC crew still take a share of experience gained ?

I've recently been working on ranking up one of my two NPC crew members both of whom, I have nurtured from 'Harmless'. I know they take a share of experience gained when they're active I was just wondering do they continue to take a share once they are fully promoted and have reached 'Elite' ?
 
I'd actually like to know the answer to this as well. Right now I'm holding off doing anything with SLF's until I'm both Elite in Combat, and have a Cutter/Corvette to put them in, mainly because it'll only be at that point I won't be worrying about the cuts they take. If they don't take Combat experience when they're Elite though, I may dabble a bit more now that money is a bit easier to come by.
 
You know, I'd LOVE to use Crew in an SLF more often, it's genuinely fun. However, for me, it's just too much that they drain your money and Combat rank when you have them - even if not active. I can afford it, but it's not the point. Plus, arguably, having your first SLF equipped ship with crew when you're still perhaps fairly poor and / or of low combat ability should be a huge benefit, but it's not due to the daft rules.

I wish we could just hire them and pay them a daily salary when active, but just a retainer (half) when left at a station's bar drinking all day. This is a FUN mechanic, potentially, but ruined (for me) by silly rules. Shame.

Also, no escape pod or even a basic remlok for crew? Really? sigh

I agree Scoob - half pay and escape pods.... spawning a rescue mission to retrieve them should be the order of the day.

I really, really don't like losing all the effort I put in to ranking them up.

There's genuine gameplay to be had here. I'd be far more incentivised to go and rescue one of my guys than a stranger.

Even though now I can easily absorb the cost of having Crew, and while only Dangerous, I don't really care so much about combat rank - at the moment - I do worry about losing all that time and effort put into training up a decent Pilot.

In the CRs they do as for experience I don't know how anyone would know if they do or not unless FDev answers the question. The only indicator is the progress bar in inara that I'm aware of and it doesn't tell very much really.

The crew member is not in the fighter - they fly it remotely as in if you lose the fighter they are still with you on the ship- at least mine is. I had one lose a fighter really fast against a Anaconda and she is still with me to this day. But if you lose your own ship they will no longer be there.
