As @Ashnak said, you only have to be in time on the carrier before it jumps, see the itinerary for that. Or you can join the Discord server, which also gives you updates and is a place where at least a good part of the nice bunch of people that come along can coordinate and chat. As @Red Rocket wrote, you can also join the expedition on EDSM to track your personal progress. Please see the first post for all the links. We would be happy to greet you on board!
I made it to Varati quicker than I expected. Will use the time before we set off to learn about mining for fuel.I've signed up and will be making my way over to to Varati over the next week. Look forward to meeting you all

What ship do you plan for mining, its about a balance between laser's (fixed) and limpets.
you want enough lasers to burn off the fragments balanced with limpets to pick them up.
Mining in a wing is very efficient and fun.
it's very easy to make a private group and there is Mobius PG and Fleetcomm PG that are PVE only.
you can do what ever you feel comfortable with.
to be honest outside of the Bubble or Colonia its very very unlikely to meet anyone outside of this group on the Comfy-Cruise.
I have spent Months out exploring and only meet one other commander exploring, We had a good conversation and both headed off in different directions.

Great you want to help and welcome! As @Red Rocket says. Personally I play mostly in Mobius PvE, but on the cruise outside of the bubble I might be in open. Thought about our own private group, too.

So far I'm thinking about taking a few metric tonnes of Domestic Appliances, Clothing, some Thargoid Probes, H.E. Suits, Eshu Umbrellas and Kongga Ale. Can you have pets onboard? I'd love to take a Uszaian Tree Grub with me. I suppose there are at least a few supermarkets and agricultural biospheres in case you need fresh cucumbers immediately. Should I take Marine Equipment? Methane Clathrate? This is so difficult.

Pets are allowed, as long as you don't let them run around without a leash in public places. These are all good ideas, but I'd recommend a Hutton mug first, best accompanied by a few bottles of Lavian Brandy to fill. But to be honest I didn't take anything else than field rations with me on my previous long distance trips.

I have never done anything with the wider community and this sounds like an amazing opportunity to join in. Just spent the last few days travelling from Colonia and now docked in the Khonsu ready to go. Will be taking my Asp Explorer and a Python fitted for mining so I can help out when able but will need to remind myself how to do something other than just flying from point A to B as I've been out of the bubble for a rather long time...

Maybe you want to consider joining the Discord for coordination (don‘t want people willing to donate a full cargo hold of Tritium when the tanks are already filled to maximum, or getting left behind).

I bet a large number of the commanders on this trip are rather new alt accounts like mine.

- Exploration: As much as I can stand or have time for.
- Canyon Flying (probably not racing because I won't have a proper racer complete by the 14th).
- Fun low budget sidewinder PvE (Sidewinder Slaughter as Exigeous puts it), if other commanders are interested.

Originally I was planning to take my atl account but after thinking about seeing all these amazing spots around the galaxy I switched to my main account.
I want the experience to be connected to my main account.
I have a carrier that I am leaving behind, traveling and getting to know a group of commanders across the galaxy sounds like a must ticket.
Your Keelback (or your second Keelback) can take a SLF, for jousting or canyoning.
If you‘re into it: rescue gear (fuel and repair limpet controller, fuel tank and cargo). As @Ashnak said an SLF bay could be used for fun.
I too have an unengineered Sidewinder as well as an Eagle (but A/D-rated) for multiplayer combat fun. For racing we could make Eagles without engineering a must or a class, I don‘t think many take a ship along that can keep up with my racing Viper—as long as I miss the ground or asteroids
