Almost the same thing though for strange and unusual names as Annu has.

I'm keeching it as mine is unusual but I reckon a slim chance someone else picked it - Demeisen. If you read Iain Banks Culture novels you'll prob know who this is :)

True, it would be a very strange coincidence if someone else chose Chuck Schwammerl!

I'm still keeping mine quiet - it's not an obviously common choice but it's also not so unusual that someone else might have gone for it. I'm banking on the fact that I was an early pledger (number 3000-odd from what I can tell).

Ah, how tense... I don't envy whoever has to go through all these submissions - an immensely gruelling task! Truly a heroic deed by whatever wonderful soul is doing it!

(Does sucking up help? No? Ah well...)

I can almost imagine an 'all staff notice' at Frontier:

You want a coffee? You must check at least five names.

You want to go to lunch? Check 10 Names First.

You want to go home? Check 25 names First.

(Or, for the really keen: You want to start work? Check 20 Names First.)

:D

Off topic - but how do we tell what # backer we are?
Is there a full list of backers somewhere? I want to check which of my mates have pledged. I know you can scroll through the complete list 20 at a time on the KS page, but ain't no-one got time fo' dat!

As the app is locked I have revealed my commander name, which to be honest was fairly obvious and not (I would imagine) a commonly used nickname...

Hmmm - I wonder if the title could be chosen too? I actually don't like "Commander" and would prefer to be "Captain".....

It would cool if you could select your current military rank or indeed outlaw rank, let's people know who you side with or you likely intentions

I don't know whether this is accurate or not, but if you look at the source code of the page there's an "OrderID" number associated with the Commander Name and NPC Name input fields - a quick straw poll in the IRC channel suggested that it was higher for those who pledged later, so conclusions were drawn accordingly....

I posted this somewhere else but:

Anyone in charge of a ship is a captain regardless of your actual rank. If a lieutenant was in charge of a ship they would be addressed as Captain.

but also given that FD have said ranks may not be chosen as names makes me wonder if different ranks may be available in the game to be promoted to.

I was guessing there were about 8000 ahead of me in the queue, but if that's the case I'm behind 9916 of you curs, wastrels, vagabonds and ne'er-do-wells.

There is indeed a number, however, I doubt it is your pledge position (unless it has a fudge factor applied), since kicktraq has only 6000 backers in the first 2 days, and I was early on day 2, but my number would put me 1/2 way into the KS.
FYI, kicktraq shows
351 on day 1
5826 on day 2
So if anybody has a 5th pledge date and a number higher than 351 then....

The page source has it in each submitable form section, so it actually looks more like your reference in the backers app, (IE when you registered with that)

I, too, doubt it is the pledge order number. Mine is in the 11,000s, but I did not even find out about the KS until the second BBC 'advert', by which point the game was close to being funded. With 26K+ funders, I cannot see how I could have been that high up the order.

A good choice, one of my favourite ships from the Culture universe.

I too have taken my inspiration from some of my favourite SF literature, but it's somewhat older than Banks' stuff.

OK, squash that theory then! :)

I was a November 6th pledger, and I got the Web App email pretty early and registered within 30 mins, and my "OrderID" is somewhere in the 3000s - so it could have been either.

That'll teach me to draw conclusions based on a straw poll of about 3 people!

What time on Nov 6th ? - you can tell from the KS backer email that was sent, then we can truely break this straw , just like crop circles

I backed on the 5th, very shortly after it was announced, and my orderid on the page source is in the 8000s. So let's disregard that theory entirely :)

Yeah I pledged at 14:02 on 6th Nov and my "orderID" is 9682.

Hopefully that number isn't my pledge # and I'll still be first of the people hoping to reserve the name Commander KHAAAAAAAAAAN!

Hehe, I'm still desperately hoping I get Commander Grey. But if I have to settle for Commander Darren Grey I suppose I won't be too peeved.

Hey, look at that, I just posted my desired names without getting all scared about weirdos nicking them! Glad I'm not, y'know, weirdly paranoid about that... ;)

It's likely to be an internal number associated with your account when you first log into the Elite backers webpage.

Fun conspiracy though :)

I do hope they finish this soon ... the suspense is killing me ... am I Commander X ... or will I have to change to Commander Y :D
