Community Events - Too short.

Please make the community events last a bit longer. I got two hours in last night and now it is done. The post in the Bulletin board said it would last a week+1day. Now it is over. /end huff

The durations shown for CGs are their maximum duration, not a guarantee - if a CG hits maximum tier it will end early.

I suspect the devs are still calibrating CG durations at this point. Hopefully they'll get a sense of how quickly they complete at various settings and apply that to future events.

Please don't make the community events last longer, once I get a good rewards position I don't want to be forced to grind all week to keep my level up. :)

There is always an opposing point of view.

The timeline posted with the CG is when it ends if the goals are not met. Otherwise it ends when the goals are met. Once you sign up you can see for yourself the progression and kinda see how long it will take. Kinda torn really, as the only way to make them last longer is to raise the goal tiers, but then that just makes it a grind fest to get in the top 15% or whatever. I kinda like the short punchy goals that you can reach in 2 or 4 hours.

A good middle ground would be to have lots of short term CGs running all the time. If you miss one just get the next one.

I don't mind them being short. Can't play every second of the day so bound to miss some. I'd like to see more of them and for them to even replace the current mini missions

Totally agree, lots of short ones then - LOTS.

Again, i agree. Maybe 1.3 will do something like this....

Community goals are good but having your own goals is better... well it is for me. You dont need a bulletin board to tell you to go kill pirates..i f you want to kill pirate then go do it and so on. I signed up for the last two and then didn't bother because shooting smugglers isnt my role playing style so went off and looked for alien artifacts... the one before that kill erm pirates was dull so I went off and found Antiquities in Isinor and nabbed a couple from the Federal Navy which was much more fun spawn camping NPCS. Community goals have got a place but the are some fairly rich story lines to follow that can be rather rewarding in game play and credits.

I'm off to look for evidence of AI encounters now.

More or longer lasting. Preferably both.

It's unrealistic to expect a true community effort in an online game if you have 2 events a week that last less than a day or two.

It would be fine if the two events just gone were 2 of 10+ events running concurrently. But as it stands, players who can't play every day are missing out quite a lot.

This^^. I always set my own goals, I've still never even joined one of these, always too busy doing my own thing.

Sadly some people are totally unable to make their own goals, they are so used to being handheld and spoonfed content because that's how a lot of modern games are :(

Sorry, mate. This isn't really a fair point to make. I'm not spoon-fed just because I enjoy community goals. I really enjoy them. And they've improved a great deal from inception. However, they are still work in progress so it's only fair we provide feedback.

I think it's great you enjoy making your own goals. I do too. But if they don't interest you at all, is it right to comment on suggestions to improve them? Particularly if it's just to say "I don't do them do I don't care".

I'm only playing community goals now.
Too many other quality games out there that deserve my good honest attention. It's quite good as without the breaks between goals the other blighters on my hard drive would be feeling rather neglected!

I'm doing the same at the moment. The current mission system is a joke and other activities don't really impact anything other than your bank balance, which only lend itself to getting a bigger ship which isn't much of a carrot to keep playing.

I'm hopping 1.3 gives us a lot more to do. The lack of in-game player organization support coupled with lackluster everything else makes the game feel pretty empty and aimless outside if community events.

I'm in the middle of some calibrations.
- Vakarian, Garrus.

Yeah, basically what most people said. The event's duration must be constantly calibrated, and the variables aren't exactly simple:

- How many players are taking part in the event?
- How many players are contributing per day of the week?
- How much are they contributing per day of the week?
- What are the most active days?
- What are the least active days?
- What is the ratio of participant/nonparticipant players?
- How many are heavy contributors? How many are not?
- How many players come back to events after they finish their first one?

The list could go on and on, as this kind of event demands a ton of metrics to be calibrated, and remember, the ED community is growing, specially after the Steam release.

Also, note how the type of event changes. Sometimes they put 2~4 events of the same kind in a row (like the last investigation events). Sometimes they put 3 completely different types of event at the same time (like that time when there was a bounty hunting event, an exploration event and one or two trading events at the same time).

And do expect to see more variety on that, or events that are bigger in scale, specially events triggered by some major stuff that happened in or off-game (like that Farragut bug that almost destroyed the first Farragut shortly after its debut, which then was bent into an in-game event to gather metal donations in order to "repair the ship, and its flawed targeting systems").

So basically, just keep playing, and keep suggesting stuff. FD will collect the data, polish the events and probably present new ways for us to interact with them and get our rewards.

For those who like comparisons, look for the evolution of Ace Combat Infinity's challenges and events.
