Maybe other functions for him at Frontier ?
Well, it's possible. However, seeing how people leave FDev. Ed Lewis, Sally Moore, and others. I'm really starting to worry about both FDev and the elite (especially for her since there is no specific information on her future (I said this earlier, already).

Yesterday I saw on Twitter a message from Will Flanagan that he was looking for a new community manager.
Was he also going to leave fd?

How does one read "I'm looking for an awesome Community Manager to come and join my team for Elite Dangerous and other upcoming titles!" as "I'm looking for my replacement!"?

You do know that there is a team of community managers working at FDEV? It isn't one community manager and loads of community subordinates!

o7
the tweet says "join MY team", not "join THE team", so maybe they just want to increase the team (make more live stream, or simply streams with people that can play the game  (just kidding)

The slots could easily change name from military slots to defensive slots. Combat ships would still tend to have more of them, yes, but that's not the problem. The problem when two ships of the same model are horrifically mis-matched because one person has various modules needed to engage with the have world (cargo, srv, limpets, etc), while the other person has stuffed every slot with SCBs, Hill reinforcement, etc.

This causes problems even in a strictly PvE context, too: consider the enormous range of health a given ship can have, everywhere from stock, A-rated, engineered, to fully-stuffed with defensive modules. FDev has to balanced their PvE encounter difficulty around that huge range of health. What might be a legitimate threat to one Anaconda is a totally and completely trivial annoyance to another.

Restricting defensive modules to military slots only (or whatever you want to name them) would mean
1) Ships would have a far more predictable amount of health, giving FDev far more control over balancing the defensive capabilities of a ship, and make it far more practical to tune NPC threats
2) A ship can be fully capable of putting up a fight, without needing to sacrifice their ability to engage with the rest of the content in E:D. PvE players wouldn't be at a massive health disadvantage to a PvP attacker. The only difference between fighting an NPC, PvE player, and a PvP player would be the pilot.

You pretty much described the die-hard PVP crowd there. They are the min-maxers, the ones who put tiny FSDs on their ships to gain a few m/s extra speed, so they brought this pretty much on themselves. (Sorry, not being spiteful, just calling them as I see them.)

I USED to have stuff like collectors etc. on my fighting ships, but now, given that I might go to Open, I stripped all that out, put in the biggest SCBs on my corvette, and crammed it full of HRPs and MRPs.

It makes sense, too. A warship is bound to be geared towards that job, and ONLY that job. What on Earth would I want with THREE size seven slots if I couldn't put SCBs in two of them? Cargo racks? Nope. Warship. I DO have a corvette outfitted as a cargo hauler, but my fighting corvette is highly specialised.

I understand that balance is necessary, but the point is: warships should have a clear, dedicated advantage over less specialised ships. Yes, you could, obviously, severely restrict SCBs, HRPs, MRPs, SBs and so forth. What would happen? Inevitably, the PVPers would quickly find a way to max out their ships in line with the new restrictions, and this time, the ordinary folks (like me) would have far less defences at their fingertips to counter those new builds. It would STILL amount to, "who is fastest/most manouevrable AND has the most firepower and shields." The only thing that would change is how long PVPers would need to kill one another. Instead of hobbling themselves, they would have hobbled everybody else, as well.

Naw, I think I'll pass. ;)

What makes sense in reality (warships just being set up to fight), doesn't always equate to the best game play. The more an encounter is decided at the fitting screen, the less thrilling and exciting a given encounter is. The more PvE equipment you have to give up to be on even-footing with a PvP aggressor, the larger the wedge that driven between the two groups. The greater the range in power and durability a given ship can have, the less practical it is to tailor NPCs to an appropriate threat level.

You do assume a lot. I, for one, am perfectly happy about FDEVs new mission statement. I'd rather have a game that worked as opposed to one that had 'new toys' but very little stability. I have a lot of respect for the hardcore SC fans. Some may say they've put up with a lot for their hobby. One can safely say, with evidence to compare and contrast with, that Elite Dangerous can hardly be considered in the same breath as SC for the 'troubled game' award. Let us try to have a little more balance, please.
It's the same mission statement that came with Beyond. But this time it has no content & only a thinly veiled rebuke of those who pushed the petition in the guise of improvements. They have leaned a lot from the Trump administration. 'Get the suckers to see backwards as forwards'

Her as in Sally? She left to take up a new job abroad. If you check her twitter account, looks great.

Well seeing as it isn't locked I think this post could use a re-read:

Well, yes, refund me the LEP you sold me in 2015 FDEV, it's not even funny anymore. From a business perspective it's a pure clear scam.

The last update that you could be truly excited about was 2.0. Planetary Landings. They really worked on that they really put a great effort that autumn, they were working hard, and we all were in awe. Yes, we figured pretty much on a 2nd day there's not that much to do, but FDEV told us "Don't worry, we'll get more content to planets next year. Including Lava worlds + ... our Moon.". We all know what happened next.

That was 4 years ago. Whoever is so naive that wants to wait more - go ahead. I'm pretty much almost 40 now and I don't generally believe in fairy tales.

Did you read their financial reports? Do you see how many new IP are planned? There's no need to fool yourself anymore, there's simply no resources and no wish from FD to invest any meaningful effort into FD. It wasn't done for last 4 years, why all of the sudden it will change?

It won't.

I will not list all delays, broken promises, etc. that occurred over a years, people with minimal critical thinking, people that have more than 1-hr momentary memory do remember those things. It's simply irrelevant at this point of time.

Total disaster at mismanagement, lack of programmers, crazy buggy code done by 100's predecessors or pure cold lie - doesn't matter at this point.

For months and YEARS we are forced to live with a 'dream' that something grand will release that would suddenly be a true 'next era'. You want to fool yourself further? Go ahead, it's personal choice.

I can't. No. Not anymore.

I don't agree with all of it but I do agree with the general sentiment. Hopefully FDev will allow this issue to be sorted amicably.
