Actually I’d be interested in that, are the ship skin / kit people considered part of the skeleton crew working on live elite or are they some marketing division elsewhere. That would make the team even smaller as they get these out once a week religiously.

Maybe someone does them in batches every so often & only the releases are timed. There are enough now that the UVs & stuff may be able to be taken from a similar skin & only one layer changes. I 'bought' a skin the other day (with earned ARX) and it the quality looked good; first time I've payed attention to what the skins look like in a while (most of my ships are just black).

What FD need to see is that drip feeding even small nuggets of info regularly would sort out a lot of annoyances because even in isolation you can see something moving. I used pic of the week because it was a structured way of controlling the expectations of players and building healthy hype. We have 13 or so months until NuEra hits- FD need to curate 12 or so newsletters with a picture, concept art, interview etc relating to the new era that gives us a glimpse at it.

Elite Dangerous is a GAME, get a life and stop obsessing about fleet carriers, updates etc. Play the game and enjoy it or don't play it at all.

And as a game, its optional that we play it.

Since the quality of this optional item has been a bit.....variable its in FDs interests to keep our interest piqued in their products in a healthy, constructive manner.

Steam concurrency numbers do not seem to show any unusual specific negative trend there. Quite the contrary if we look at the historical actually.

I would guess this is down to new players coming in. I'd love to know player retention afterwards though once they get over the 'wow' factor and start waiting for new features.

Be that as it may, "playing it" seems to be doing just fine.

Is there a potential upside for FDEV if they could attract or retain even more players? No doubt. But regarding retention once a player hits hundreds or thousands of hours and stops or parks the game it becomes tremendously inneficient to try and re-attract that kind of player, you hit a diminishing returns wall in terms of features or appeal options and very few things will commercially succeed at that.

I had a minor whine when reading the announcement as I'd been formulating a dastardly plan with my alt account based around the information we already had on Fleet Carriers, so was a bit miffed

Now curiosity has replaced that and I'm wondering if I'll notice the 'fixes' as they happen. My alt will 'live' on the beta servers when we get them... not as exciting as the original plan, but at least it will be contributing something rather than just taking...

See, eternal optimist :)

If you go on the steam figures, every time there is an Interstellar Initiative going on, player numbers are up approximately 25% over months where there's not (Or any update). I feel that people are comming back to play these events and leave when they're not on. I know it's How I'm playing at the moment.

And thats the attitude that really winds people up. Its do the bare minimum to keep it going. People really are enthusiastic about the game, and FD let it slide.

If they want to grow ED outside its niche, then its vital. Scraping by leaving half finished features is not a way to grow a franchise.

Crazy as it sounds, players like me who have clocked months of play since KS would be overjoyed and be happy right now with features like PP, CQC etc if FD actually supported them. I don't care about the new era, FC, legs, space pets or whatever is on Adams whiteboard. I only want whats released to work. Do that and most anger would vanish.

FD closed the door on lore in ED- how much does it cost to write an A4 page each week? Players are not looking for much to be happy.

And the reason? Its the only shot of curated story we get in ED now. Outside that there is no ongoing story. No Thargoids, mad cults, Powerplay characters doing something, Superpower wars... nothing.

I am not suggesting any attitude, just pointing at the facts.

I have already mentioned the upside is always there obviously.

By attitude, I mean that FD seem to think that we don't (or did not) care what quality the products were delivered in. FD put out any old garbage and think thats OK.

In the end if it makes money then FD won't care which is a shame, because frankly the long term players seem to care more for the integrity of the game more than FD does.
