Can't please everyone. I think fixes will be the best direction.

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.

Thank you Frontier! I fully support this decision as I think it's the right thing to do.

Unfortunately the game has become so complex that it has to be done. It reached a point where it's inevitable to properly sort out its problems. I'm glad you do it and I can patiently wait for the updates, Fleet Carriers included. Make the game ready for the future.

I will stay and play and enjoy the game. Keep it up, take the time needed, I will be with you on this journey.

Definitely a good decision!
I'm glad to see the team Frontier listening to the community again because tbh the game would have died sometime ago without the dedication and patience of the community of which Frontier have been very lucky to have.
We used to have much more say (our suggestions and comments were taken onboard) in the early days of Elite Dangerous and to me at least things seemed to progress smoother.

Now after a sadly a series of unfortunate decisions made by the management team that the Community Team has had to endure the flak for, this statement seems to show they have realized the error of their ways and our finally listening again!

I'm sure many will be disappointed about the second time Fleet Carriers have been snatched away for a later release but I'm sure they will understand the priority is to fix the many, many, many issues created with the last few haphazard updates.

Great decision Fdev and I look forward to getting the game I love so much back without it's frustrating glitches. Ő7

This is a joke i presume ? Some Players ? Come on man change that to the majority of players
Sincerely hope they also fix that grammar bug in the forum.

Imagine a world were Arx was delayed while they worked on bug fixes.

Yeah.

They made sure they got that in well ahead of Christmas.

Jesus..how can some people not see what's actually going on here?
Pretty much!

People forget that Carriers were to be a Q3-Q42018 thing.

That implies a year of work before that.

EVERY TIME we've been within 2 months of Fleet Carriers being released BAM, another big delay.

In the mean time we went from NOT knowing about Arx to finding out, having them deployed to the game and now spending ALL of FDev's resources to fix Arx so that Carriers get another 6 month delay.

I will not at all be surprised when we find out in May/June that FC's are delayed to Dec 2020 or will be apart of the next form of Elite.

Feels like a scam.

This is a joke i presume ? Some Players ? Come on man change that to the majority of players

you mean a vocal minority ?

because i'm not disappointed in the delay, i'm actually glad they are doing this because this means they might start fixing long standing bugs, and being that they will being having betas before a patch gets released means more possibilities to catch issues before the patch goes live.

Wonder if the next lesson that FDev's "learns" is that checking out and testing out NEW content is what brings lots of people into a beta, driving up the enthusiastic reporting of issues. Far fewer people are inclined to jump into a beta and act like unpaid QA staff just to see if their pet bug has been fixed or not. ...especially when combatting a reputation where one patch's fix has a history of resurfacing a patch or two later.

This is really disappointing.

I hate to feel this way, but I'm predicting the deep and empty black is going to be increasingly empty for much of the next year.

You want to fix Bugs?
Fix the broken BGS in V374 Pegasi.
That thing is a mess and is killing the Player Group Equestrian Naval Fleet behind it due to their frustration. They send you Tickets and there is a Issue Report containing tons of data pointing out how much effort they spend (around 4 people doing 5+ daily missions) and the non existant or negative reward they get for their efforts. Or winning a war and seeing the Influence boost go to a third faction instead of their own, just to name a few.

Well, bug fixing before releasing new content looks like a good idea to me, the best probably.

But I must add that I’m feeling a little worried. ED is moving forward really slowly content wise.
