Newcomer / Intro Complete newbie - quickest way to make money please?

Hi Everyone,

I have just started playing and have finished the Dromi ’starter’ missions and was given one for 100k credits to go to Ehecatl. So my question is ‘what is the quickest and easiest way to make money?’ Bounty hunting I’m geussing is out as the starter ship isn’t really equipped for that sort of thing and to get weapons and defenses to any good level costs money anyway, right?

Thanks in advance guys and gals!

Please OP don't be in such a rush to make tons of money fast.
Take your time to actually enjoy the game.

As for your question though, so many people have moaned about the game being too hard, that it now literally throws money at you. You can make money doing anything. Even just flying around to other systems and selling mapping data gives you money.

Re: Bounty Hunting - If you go to a system with RES sites, and pick a High RES, all you have to do is find a Security Anaconda, follow it around and get a few hits in when it engages something to claim the bounty. You don't even have to make the killing hit. It is NOT the fastest way to make money, but it is relatively safe as long as you don't do enough damage to pull aggro.

If you are willing to fly around, I recommend the Road to Riches...

Please note, there is a lot to be said for not hopping straight to the top in terms of learning the game play. I understand the desire for better equipage, but learning to dogfight, subtleties of your ship, etc only come with exposure.

Thanks everyone. I am enjoying the game. In fact I’m old enough to remember playing the original on the SZ Spectrum! Now THAT was difficult! I’m not in a rush just to make loads of money, but would just like to get a decent ship and equipment to

A. Have a fighting chance against any that attacks me
B. Have some decent mining gear to actually mine fairly easily
C. Have decent cargo space to complete missions
D. Have decent space for passenger missions

I’ve also played Galaxy On Fire on iPad which is similar to this albeit a helluva lot less complex or big!

This is such a HUUUUGE game, it did take me a few hours yesterday just to get to grips with using FSD and not taking 3 hours to get to a station! 😂

Re that last point always read missions carefully and take note of the station distance in ls mentioned, there are stations that will take you around an hour and a half to reach assuming your fuel lasts.

Oh I see. Well you could always try Hutton Orbi.....

.....no, I can't.
😇

Tip : stay in one system, one station and get your rep up to Allied with factions there

Alone as beginner: courrier missions, cargo missions (source return missions and bring good from a to b)
Passenger missions

In a squadron/group : someone, which play longer as you, can share some winged missions with you for big credits, 50mil per mission for example.

And above all play E:D and having fun

Complete walkthrough here. RES farming for your first few mil to get a T6 outfitted for passenger missions, then Road to riches out to Robigo, then fill your boots with cash at 60 mil per hour until you have a few billion. After a couple of sessions of the Robigo missions, you should get a Python, which will take your earnings up to 100 mil per hour. Every Thursday, check the galaxy map for burning stations. if you see one in Empire space, do all the rescue missions to get your rank for the Cutter, then go platinum mining at around 100 mil/hr. After a few weeks, you'll have your fleet carrier, then you can mine at 120 mil per hour:

..... and after all that money in such a short time, the game is over so you can play something else.

All those in one ship at the same time will be problematic - you'll end up with a T-10.
Each of those individually, though, can be fulfilled in a Sidewinder (you didn't state how much money you want to make or how much time you want to spend on doing the above...).

But: engineering is a must. You'll need to get access to all of the Bubble Engineers (or at least all of those that unlock the Colonia Engineers, then move over) to get your ship(s) properly equipped - especially if A) should include other players in Open.

That said, the go-to general purpose ships right now are the Krait Mk.II and the Python. The Python got more optional space, the Krait looks better (and you can actually see where you're going). Either is a medium ship, so you can still dock at outposts. However, fully equipped for all eventualities leaves you with one (Krait) or two (Python) size 6 internals free for your actual mission loadout (pax or cargo), which is a bit limiting. If you can tolerate e.g. not to go mining in your combat ship, or not to engage in combat in your passenger ship, then things become much more relaxed.
Plus, the Krait Phantom in the right build also makes for a great passenger ship - especially those passengers where you definitely don't want the station security to scan you...

That's rubbish. There's so much to do in the game that's enjoyable when you get the right ships. Many of us have been playing for over 7000 hours and have all the money we'd ever need, but it doesn't stop us playing.

For quick money early in the game try doing the Ram Tah (Decoding the ancient ruins) mission. All you really need is a hauler.
Scrape together enough mats to make a trip to Felicity Farseer worthwhile, G5 FSD Long Range then go straight to Meeme and start the mission. While you are there unlock at least 4 guardian module blueprints. It does take quite a bit of research on line and an orderly approach, but by the end of it you will have 100M in the bank, enough guardian mats to unlock the power unit, distributer, shield booster and fsd booster. I would definitely recommend it while 100Mcr is still worth something.

This is the order I do things when building up new alt accounts.
How do I build a new account?

I tried ED back in Beta. Have a commander from back then with 11m credits, but I don't remember a thing about the game. I want to play "from scratch" to recall things, but the only option I see is "Clear Save" which will delete that original account

Can I have multiple commanders?

Nope. You have to Clear Save or get an additional account.

Why would you want to save that old one, anyway? It has only 11 million credits. You probably don't remember what ship(s) you had. Just start over. You'll be better off learning from scratch and it won't take long to re-make 11 million.

Good luck, and above all have fun. And don't fly without a rebuy :)

Can I reuse same commander name?
I have a Cobra on that account. I do remember it took me quite a while back then to earn enough credits for that.
I got no idea how long it would take to get 11m again from scratch.

Can't I just return to the newbie systems and do those missions again or something?

Thank you
