Completing Zoo Tycoon 2: How far we've come?

The only one I see there that doesn't have a possibility of getting is probably the gerenuk. Just considering how many African antelope we have already.

Yeah, and they're mostly boring vanilla ones or redundant duplicates... sad thing is, Frontier has neglected all the really interesting African antelope, and that definitely includes the Gerenuk.

How do you decide which antelope is interesting and which is boring?
I suppose i could have phrased things a bit better... still a little bitter about the redundant additions in the new DLC, which is the real target of this bit of spite... feels like the Blue Wildebeest again, only this time it's somewhere between three and five animals.

In that bit of context, boring is anything too similar to what we already have, while interesting is anything unique... or at least reasonably different from what we already have.

A Gerenuk, with its long legs and neck, and distinct feeding strategy of pulling down tree branches, is certainly a bit more unique for an antelope.

Whale Shark (they have them at the Georgia Aquarium)
Worth pointing out that capturing whale sharks for captivity is now illegal under international law. Osaka Aquarium managed to get some before the law came into effect, but it pretty much establishes that their containment in aquarium facilities isn't good enough anywhere. AFAIK they've never been bred in captivity either (same with manta rays) which makes one wonder what tangible value there is in keeping them at all.

This may be subject to change shoukd their conversation status drop which might happen sooner than later.

And another interesting thing: no one knows how or where do whale sharks breed, last I checked.

Not necessarily - many species are not kept in captivity despite their conservation status due to welfare concerns, and the ban on whale shark capture was only recent,

Looking at the updated list we are nearly there 🥲

I think the bears, the markhor, walrus and the wolverine have a good chance of making it in the roster. I hope the secretary does as we'll.

Out of the rest i still would like the blackbuck, musk ox, big horned sheep, rockhopper penguin and gelada. The rest i can live without.

Looking at the rest of the list there is still a lot of gaps I think we really need like sulcata tortoise, blackbuck, gelada, ratel, secretary bird, wolverine and muskox. I hope we can get all these before support ends.

I'm not even going to get into the Xbox zoo tycoons with its dozen giraffes and 9 Lions, yet no Giant Panda. Their list of animals is an sometimes humorous/sometimes ridiculous joke compared to just about other zoo game out there. I'm also not going to get into the Marine Mania type of animals, since we don't know if that will ever be a thing in PZ. That takes away a LOT of the missing animals.

Of the ones missing from ZT2 that are my personal priority:
Wolverine
Spectacled Bear
Secretary Bird

Defintely want the below animals, and still hope for them but they are not critical additions:
Masai Giraffe
American Black Bear
Honey Badger
Markhor
Blackbuck (if only because we need Asian Antelopes!)

Also interesting news about the Whale Shark ban. I guess I feel even more grateful to have seen them several times at the Atlanta Aquarium. The ethics of keeping them in captivity aside, seeing these animals in real life is incredible. They are truly awe inspiring.

Looking at the OP list, I'd divide the options into what I actually really want and what I think would be cool but could live without;

What I REALLY Want:
  • Blackbuck.
  • Barbary macaque.
  • Sea otter.
  • Japanese serow.
What Would be Cool:
  • Markhor.
  • Spectacled bear.
  • Walrus.
  • Gelada (had it been the Hamadryas in ZT2, it would be in the other list).

IT'S ZOOIN' TIME (Highest priority)
  • Markhor
  • Walrus
  • Rockhopper Penguin
  • Secretary Bird
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Sea Otter
  • African Spurred Tortoise
  • Gelada
You know I'm something of a zoo simulator myself (Nice to have)
  • Musk Ox
  • Honey Badger
  • Green Sea Turtle
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Wolverine
  • Blackbuck
  • Bighorn Sheep

Mid af (wildly apathetic towards)
  • American Black Bear
  • Barbary Ape
  • Japanese Serow
  • Olive Baboon
  • Gerenuk
Waltuh, put your wishlist away, Waltuh (not in real zoos, too similar to existing species aka "clones", low priority imo)
  • Elephant Seal
  • Crested Gibbon
  • Masai Giraffe
  • Iberian Lynx
  • Leatherback Sea Turtle
  • Javan Rhino

S TIER
Blackbuck
Markhor
Spectacled Bear
Secretary Bird

A TIER
Gelada
African Spurred Tortoise
Japanese Serow
Musk Ox
Gerenuk

B TIER
Olive Baboon
Markhor
Wolverine
Ratel

The rest I take my chances 🤣🤣🤣

I really want the bears, especially the American black and spectacled, as well as the wolverine, a baboon, markhor, and blackbuck. I would love a secretary bird too, but there are other acceptable options for African birds if that one is too much work.

The bighorn sheep, spurred tortoise, barbary macaque, musk ox, honey badger, sea otter, sea turtle, rockhopper penguin, and some sort of African croc would be awesome, too.
