"Console development continues behind the scenes with an Autumn release still on schedule"

Interesting. I haven't seen that myself.

Hard for Rockstar to be a cherry pick since its one of the few games i follow the development of.
See so fast could it be, to assume that I have this games cherry picked.

i can go further specially into the space game section, SC or Stellaris or NMS or X4 are communicate open with their roadmaps.

What facts? what data?
ED sold way more copies on PC than on consoles. That's the fact, even before taking Epic Games into equation.
Yes indeed, but it was although their decision to make elite Multiplattform, and this means to communicate open to all of us not only to the cmdrs who get EDO. In case they need some inspiration to handle a first of pc game and then chosen as a third party game they can have a look at paradox entertainment. 😋

but enough of messing around with how much influence have the sells in the past, the fact is we are one community, one of the best all over the place, I have no interest to constantly arguing about pc vs. consoles. Elite is a third party game, they communicate at the moment one sided and this is the issue.

The PC market is underperforming for Frontier at the moment

Please feel free to read the latest Frontier shareholder report yourself.

Releasing Odyssey on consoles would save profits / Console is where the primary retail opportunities are.

Apolgies, it just sounded like you followed a lot and that's why you felt comfortable stating that its normal. Its not in my somewhat limited experience.

no need for apologize, let me correct myself, most of the developers are open in communication, as I mentioned it before, Fdev is it too most of times, but in relation to consoles at the moment they are more silenced like a graveyard.

Fair enough. As i've said, i believe (without any proof, but there again, same can be said of other people's opinions on the topic) that they do not know enough at this time to give any information one way or another and any information about issues they are facing could be detrimental to share price.

Yea, sure.
All those developers are creating games like Elite, right? So those statistics are valid for FD, right?
Well, no.

You better read their latest trading reports where they do admit that Odyssey sales were muted (everyone knows why) and JWE2 sales on PC were smaller than estimated for the first 3 weeks post launch (due to a "phasing issue")
They also said that console sales for JWE2 were "largely as expected" - from this i'm taking that sales were as expected, but not quite there. I dont really read it as they exceeded expectations with console sales.

The full quote is this:
We continue to project Jurassic World Evolution 2 to overtake Jurassic World Evolution in terms of revenue in its first 12 months from release. We believe the initial PC sales are primarily a phasing issue, where we expect further significant sales around Christmas, with excitement strong on PC (with over 440,000 on the Steam wishlist). Sales in the first 12 months will also benefit from the launch of the Jurassic World Dominion film in June 202

If Dominion would have been released as planned, in the summer of 2021, then JWE2 would have greatly benefited from the marketing and hype generated by the movie.
So no, i do not think Consoles would have saved FDev.

What actually hit FDev sales was the rushed release of EDO and Universal's decision to delay Dominion for a full year.
Consoles had nothing to do with that and would had not saved FDev - as proved by JWE2 launch. They still rely on PC sales to reach predicted values since the Console sales are not exceeding their expectations and in no way can make up for the lost PC sales.

I'd suggest most of the points you raise are a marketing issue. There's no doubting the audience and sales opportunities are primarily on consoles - as the data shows - should Frontier have the drive and ambition to reach for them.

No, JWE2 launch proved that sales and opportunities for consoles are not quite there.
They reached out on consoles - they launched JWE2 for both last gen and current gen - but the sales not happening.
Consoles are a second rate market and they do rely on PC sales to make up the numbers they need.

That's the fact, no matter how much you lobby for consoles - they dont really seem to cut it for FDev.

Indeed, but the bad things are already happens, I didn’t think it would make a difference for them to hold back any informations. I mean when they sitting in their meetings and the CMs share the outcry’s from the console section, I couldn’t believe that there is a simple we didn’t know, or to go out a higher stage, when the dev teams and David braben are in a meeting, they didn’t talk about consoles ? and when they talked about that, then there will be a simple from the man himself :,, I don’t know?‘‘ seems to be a little bit weird

but what in my opinion can happened is, after they lowered the expected outcome round about 20-30 million, that they have a plan for consoles but not now in this FY.

So can we arguing that there is some potential, and for Fdev the console market is a little side love story? 😜

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it the consoles which are sold more copy’s then expected from JW 2?

edit: not giving any penny about the whole pc vs. console sells Analyse discussion but there are indeed many peoples out there on consoles who would love to spend their money for EDO Including myself. So we are potential customer and for me the whole pc vs. consoles thing lowered my goodwill, sorry but when new players reading this, they will run away.

my solution proposal to this:

there are definitely a lot of cmdrs who would like to spend there money on consoles which is a potential which shouldn’t be underestimated.

the pc cmdrs are more by fact at the moment and perhaps in the future.

so we have a standoff.

speaking for myself as an console player I can live with the fact, that there are more pc cmdrs at the moment, but perhaps some pc commanders can accepted it too, that there are an undeniable huge potential into the console market. Because we haven’t a game like elite, only NMS is the Next step for us.

so let us work together like back in the days, stop arguing with, pc is master race and consoles are the greatest.

Do FDEV even have any console developer left? I mean … presumably they’re not doing anything (or very much) on ED at the moment so they will have to be moved from other projects as/when anything changes.

I know a few PC CMDRs playing Odyssey exclusively and very happy with it and plenty of posts here and elsewhere from people running it fine. So the PC version seems to be “fixed” already apart from a few niche cases which will probably require optimisation for specific cards/drivers with limited carry over to console use … so the fact that they haven’t started and are instead adding more stuff to the PC version speaks volumes.

So, I am interested to hear what the “end of year update” is when it comes but my expectations are zero. Maybe they’ll announce that they’re not going to bother with consoles anymore but frankly I don’t think they’ll even be bothered to tell us.

Indeed, but the bad things are already happens,

It could be worse... much worse, at least from a financial point of view for FD.

If i were a gambling man, i'd bet on a statement like this some time in the new year
We are pleased to announce that Odyssey will be arriving on consoles in the second quarter of this year. It will be released for the PS5 and XBox S and X.

Q&A:

Q: Will it be coming to the PS4 and XBox One?
A: Unfortunately due to the higher requirements of Odyssey, it will not be available on those systems.

Of course, this assumes they can't do some significant improvements to performance soon. Update 9 might be quite telling in relation to this. If people on weaker systems report good improvement i'd say there is hope. If its just a small improvement (or none), then i'd say just forget it, its not coming to the older consoles.

So you're contesting these published sales figures, then?

The Green sections are PC.
Blue, Red and Yellow are console.

I'm just going to assume you're being contrary for the sake of argument, and will refrain from contributing further to that argument. Don't want another thread diverting into needless "PC vs Console" territory.

I suspect the Friday update will contain little future development information, let alone specific detail about the future plan for Odyssey on console, but remain hopeful of being proven wrong.. ;)

Just adding this in that Boppa missed out so that you all know what you're arguing about.

Just as an additional point from me those figures probably don't factor in the cut that automatically goes to Xbox/MS and Nintendo when third party publishers release a game on their platforms. I know that steam takes a cut of pc sales but at least five of those publishers have their own game launchers which mean 100% of profits go to them and do not have to be divided out to others.

There is no question that gaming on consoles is a distant second to mobile gaming e in terms of revenue for game companies but it's silly to assume that Frontier missed the boat because their preferred platform to release games first on is PC.
