Console Update

BBC Micro Computer
IBM Personal Computer

I played Elite on the C64 & Amiga, the 80s micros were the predecessors of the PC, not the NES, Playstation or Xbox. So we can drop the adjective, and the semantics, and just say that Elite originated as a computer game, and was also available on PC back then too.

I'll take this opportunity to point out that it was also released on the NES, but you don't hear about it much when people talk about the classic NES games or when talking about classic Elite, which bolsters the point that Elite found its success on computer platforms, not consoles.

Lastly, there's nothing toxic about pointing these facts out, or stating that Elite originated as a computer game, not a console game. Splitting hairs to shoehorn pseudo-credibility of fact to fit a narrative on the other hand..
Oh and one more thing, FlightSim was always primarily a PC game as well ... Just saying.

And on a Switch of all things?! I'm looking forward to that one for my son actually.
Let’s be honest mate,

Fdev has miss their opportunity, they had BY FAR not the guts to raise up and proof me and every dissapointed angry customer that we’re wrong. No they choose the easiest way.

in the meantime hello games evolve it game constantly without ingame (arx) or paid dlc and expand to plattforms who no one believes in.

sorry but it’s enough with warm words for me. They simply killed the trust in them, so hard for me that I’ve decided to stop my support for other games.

Very sad news. I would love to see them at least try to make it up to the console community by working out a way to do complete account transfers to pc; Including skins etc that we’ve paid for over the years. In the mean time, maybe give everyone on console the cobra mkIV if they don’t have it? They have to try and make it up to us somehow right?

No nothing toxic about pointing that out ... probably not the time and place though given the circumstances ..
It was your initial post I was responding to.

Basically what you are saying is Elite has always primarily been a PC game so whats the issue?
You're putting words in my mouth, I never said that.

If you dont understand that then you never will.
Understand what again? The assumptions you have already made and are projecting on my response? These are rhetorical questions.
Oh and I have probably played ED as much on PC than on console over the years , just so we are clear on that. And I am glad you mentioned the NES version because I would have pulled you up on that if you hadn't.
Fair enough, I guess?
In the end though you are just rubbing people's faces in it at the worst possible time. So maybe .. you know .. don't.
Not at all, don't need false narratives making an already bad situation worse. Especially with the quote that "No wonder. the pc community of elite is as toxic as it gets" and you suggesting that the comment confirmed that.

That's odd...

I played EDO in VR this afternoon - has it been removed?
I stil have Horizons on my PS4 too, did they delete it today?
FDev literally said they stopped support for those. They didn't shut them down, they aren't working on them anymore.

Yes you can play in VR, but just what was there before Odyssey. No motion tracking for FPS combat, and who knows, they may remove VR on future engine updates.
Yes you can play on consoles, but just what was there before Odyssey. No atmospheric planets, no new narrative and who knows if consoles will get the engineering update.
That's what support means. I can run Windows XP yet Microsoft does not support it.

I'm genuinely concerned about elite's future, they have destroyed most good will with Odyssey, some would even say they started with that way before. They have been cutting down on development by removing support to everything but PC. Maybe Elite isn't profitable anymore, maybe the codebase is beyond salvage. They kept saying that they would release Odyssey on consoles yet here we are, Frontier is anything but transparent, Elite could be dying and we wouldn't know. Maybe it could be something like "the servers will keep running and you can still play it but no more updates".

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see Elite die, I'm just worried, things haven't been looking so good for Frontier since they released Odyssey.

Well now that console owners can't play EDO, I think I speak for Everyone™ when I say a massive update to a cross platform feature like Powerplay would be just the thing to cheer people up.

Right? Guys? Guys?

Y U run away guys?
At this point I do not think that could be enough. Console players have basically a half-baked game with many abandoned features. It's only logical they'd stop playing or try to migrate to PC. At this point I'd split the PC and Console galaxies at least, for the cooperative game this new fragmentation would be even worse.

Its clear that the engines performance wasn’t up to scratch to allow odyssey to run on consoles. Looking at the performance we have seen on high end rigs I suspected we might see this announcement after all the silence.

You're putting words in my mouth, I never said that.
No im not, you are literally trying to justify the decision by pointing out that Elite has always been a PC game (semantics aside on what PC means).

Otherwise why make the point in the first place? It's stand no purpose. Lots of games in the past were also primarily console games , which are now on PC as well. You don;t see me trying to argue against that do you?

Can't say I'm surprised. We console players all knew in our hearts this was coming due to the lack of news.

FDev, please make certain you post some sort of communication within the console version clients regarding this. Not everyone trolls around in the forums or social media. Allowing users to continue purchasing ARX without having the full story on the future of their platform is not a good look. You should also remove the PS and XBOX logos from your EDO product page since it is now 100% false advertising.

I have thousands of flight hours on Playstation since it was released June 2017 and will continue on PC if all of that effort can be kept alive (runs surprisingly well on a Steam Deck). But if FDev didn't have a full console to PC transfer option ready prior to this announcement, then I'm afraid that is already a demonstration of their commitment. There would have been zero additional harm in delaying the announcement until a viable full transfer option was ready. Some honey to make the medicine go down easier.

What truly sucks is that I managed to get my wife into flying, but now she's "what's the point? This is just the pre-announcement to actually shutting down the console versions." After months of being intimidated by the mail slot, she performed her first manual take off and landing without scaping paint (or worse) last week. I felt like a proud parent when their kid walks for the first time... lol.
