Console Update

When Console servers get shut down do all console player discoveries get deleted?

That's another thing to ask.
That's a good question. This doesn't effect just console players I'd imagine, but also PC players who aren't using Odyssey. A statement of some sort on that would be helpful for those who are wondering if its pointless to remain in the game or not, or pondering switching to PC. (Which, as I said, I think Frontier should provide any console commanders a free copy of Horizons on the PC as well as facilitate a proper account transfer that includes rank, accomplishments, and assets - not just credits)

Others have posted this but I'll reiterate it...

Please clarify what if anything would prevent full account transfers from XBX to PC. If it's a technical issue or license issue or... whatever, please just be clear about what obstacles if any exist to prevent it. Let us know realistically why it may or may not happen. I do not think that is a huge ask.

As an aside, things I would happily do if it meant I could transfer my ranks, ships, and mods from XBX to PC:

1) Buy a new copy of ED along with Odyssey
2) Pay a small (<$25) one time fee to make the transfer.
3) Repurchase all my skins.
That's desperation that. If they value your custom and loyalty then they'll find a way to make it work without expecting you to pay for it. Twice.

They don’t have to worry about a lawsuit. All of our digital goods purchased with Arx are still available. A judge will not side with you just because they’re not bringing an expansion to consoles.
The only argument I could see is someone who bought the game directly following the Odyssey announcement that had logos for consoles while announcing the launch. A bit of a bait and switch. But fat chance and only for people who bought in a tiny window between the announcement and the first "indefinitely" quote.

One last boost for this person, speaking my language! I don't really want to pay for a transfer but I suppose if that's what it takes I know I will get my moneys worth.

The servers aren't the main issue because the game is P2P, with server sync. So... not a cost that I would be worried.

I don't think you should have to do that, to be fair. Those things you list should be provided with the exception of getting Odyssey.

Honestly believe any console commander should have the option of transferring their account fully to PC without charge, basically giving them exactly what they had on console - ships, credits, rank, assets, accomplishments. If DLC stuff like skins and ship kits can't be moved, then a substantial chunk of Arx should be given as well. Then if they want to upgrade to Odyssey, they can do so like all other PC players.

If the market isn't there to support a full port/development, fair enough. But surely there has to be a way to transfer the accounts, even if it's bringing on a few dozen temporary employees to do it manually.

Makes me Sad to See this.
I know this is never easy for the Dev Team. At least in most cases. Dev Teams Love their Games. (Sometimes too much making them blind to its faults) And usually have their Hearts Invested in its Development.
So pls dont understand this as me Bashing the Devs or something.

But I also have been in the Internet for over 20 Years now. And I have been Playing Games for 30 Years.
I still Remember the Large Discs from my Fathers C64 (in fact I still have 3 whole Boxes of them) I remember my First Super Nintendo and the 2D Sidescrollers on it. I remember just how freaking Amazed I was at Mario 64 and Golden Eye which were Fully 3D. I still got the old 2 Megabyte Harddisk from my Fathers Computer. My own First Computer actually had a Gigantic 16 Gigabyte Harddisk and the State of Art back then. A 3DFX Voodoo Card. Together with 128mb Ram and a 500mhz CPU. Which allowed me to Play Total Annihilation. A 32mb Large Game that was fully 3D.
Ever since I have been Online. I have seen Games Rise. And I have seen Games Fail and Fall. I have seen Games that never took off. And Games that Rose to Thousands of Players just to then Die a few Months Later.

And well. Unfortunately. I also have seen Games which at some Point Decided to Cut off a Part of their Playerbase from the Future.
By Closing their Servers and thus destroying their Progress or by no Longer Supporting the OS they are using. Or even by deciding to Wipe the Servers entirely for whatever reason Years after the Game was there.

But one thing I have not Seen so far.

I have so far never even once Seen a Game Survive after it Abandoned a Major Part of its Playerbase. The Reputation Damage is Insane. And usually only a Fraction of the Players Abandoned will move over to the Part of the Game that goes Forward. Meaning that most of these Players will be Lost. And on the Part of the Game that goes Forward. Everyone now forever has that Voice in the Rear of their Head. "If such a Major Part of the Playerbase is not worth the Investment to Continue Development. Than how long will the remaining part of the Game be worth Further Investment. Is it even worth that Investment now or are they just gonna throw out some last Ditch thing to rake in some Money before Abandoning this part too?" And this Voice leads Players to then become Frustrated. Many will Leave. Many more will feel Uneasy and Possibly Shy away from Buying any further Extension. Thus effectively Cementing this Prophecy by themselves because the Investors will stand there and Say. Yeah no. This Game aint worth Developing any Further. And well. Thats how Games Die. Often these Games stay around for Years as Zombie Games whose Servers are kept Running but which are no longer receiving any meaningful Updates. Thus effectively just being Walking Dead which are waiting to Fall.

As such. This Decision makes me Pretty Sad.
Because you just Created Thousands of Players which will have very Hard Feeling on you. And which will have a Reason for that that is not just a Design Decision that can be brushed off as Opinion on how it should be done.
But Players which can tell anyone they know that you Betrayed them. And Point the Finger at this Decision.

Just my 2 Cents.

Ah Frontier...you never cease to amaze your community's frustration.....Im sorry but mark me troll however the real troll is the very people we are buying from, Im a PC player and I bet il get "but this doesn't affect you" oh boy does it, The lack of money now going to be earned, another sheer smack in the face to loyal fans (There has been so many) and now the future of Elite will dwindle when the news circles more and more.

They are killing their own game, tanking it to the ground so they can bug out, I bet the "Finish the story via PC" argument is going to be a few galnet articles, a few community goals and lackluster releases that get delayed over and over as usual just to end it all with a big F you to those who stay here....

I mean, Elite is your first game as a company yet you but more emphasis onto Jurassic Park, The first might I add was a great game, the second however you pooled Elites resources into and tanked it, why didn't you in favor of Elites console players drop the second Jurassic world game? The very one that barely sold anything compared to your other games? You invested so much time with it while ignoring your core community and now still make them suffer the consequences!

Why not change the team up a little, so many have come and gone with great ideas for Elite, great storys, lore etc however you dropped or ignored them in favor of your "Elite Bible" no1 will ever see, Infact...in a few months that will probably be also burned along with your already burning reputation

This is just a stepping stone to a full shutdown instead of hiring talent that could have fixed these issues they let the game rot and die by holding onto team members incapable of optimization. This may sound harsh but if basic community modders can spot issues and fix the frame rate by 30 fps it just shows monumental mismanagement. Why not next gen as well my series x is leaps and bounds ahead of my pc and pc can still run this junker at 60fps. Expect the game to be dead across the board in under two years if this keeps up.

Finally, at last, at least a conclusion to the "When will Consoles get their copy?" question. No, it wasn't the answer we wanted or hoped for, but sometimes when you are trying to make something that's 20 oz big fit into something that can only deal with 15 oz big, trying to squeeze it further and further just doesn't work no matter how hard you squish it. That coupled with the frame rate issues we PC users still experience (and Horizons worked great on my GTX970 card on ULTRA settings), I felt that they were trying to balance between consoles and PC's and didn't work well on either one.

Hopefully, FD can really knuckle down on how things are rendered on PC and get the graphics back to where an old GTX970 can go back to ULTRA settings so the story can move forward.

Dark cloud: Xbox and PS users will either be stuck with Horizons only and miss out on any on-foot activities, watching from afar through the window like an orphan, wondering what it's like where everyone else is.

Silver lining: Some (not all) will get a gaming PC, get their account moved to PC and join us, meeting many "new" players they never met before, more opportunities to wing up, etc. Maybe now we can see why certain signals were pointing back to a star system in the COL 70 Sector. Maybe.

Honestly, I know a lot of people are disappointed. They have a right to be. But even I know that "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy" and the same is true of this kind of thing. It killed MAC support. Now both consoles.

For those console players that go PC, if we meet on a station, your beer is on me.
That is, if we ever get the opportunity to buy someone a beer at the bar.

Wow, okay. Guess I've been informed this game isn't for me then, despite my device being more powerful than many PCs that run Elite. Only a matter of time until they turn the servers off, and no word at all on account transfer. Never expected to be uninstalling because FDev told me it's no longer supported going forward, that's for sure.

Mac, then VR, then console. I wonder how long until they just turn off the Elite servers altogether. Maybe some people will still defend it even then. Healthy games aren't continuously decreasing their platform availability, healthy games get ported to more platforms. Something's going wrong behind the scenes for this to be happening, which means it's only a matter of time for PC players too. I wonder if a Mac user or a VR user said something similar back when they were deprecated; look at today, it's come true.

Thank you for seeing what many PC players don't. This is not good news for anyone.

P.S. Apparently I lied when I said I was logging off.
