Console Update

The development on consoles drags down this fantastic game with a very big potential. That consoles can't handle anymore. Buy a STEAMDECK and plug it into your TV in your living room.

Problem Solved
I feel you're being very optimistic about the performance of Odyssey on that.

The issue isn't consoles, since there's very high quality games that will run on them and I don't see anything in Odyssey that tops those. The issue is Odyssey needs (and always will need) a far better rig than the minimum and recommended specs indicate.

My fear obviously is that after dropping Mac, then VR, now console support, this just means that FDev is reducing the investment, the dev team more and more, and will be trying to milk Odyssey on PC with cosmetics sales etc. for a couple of years before eventually ceasing all efforts and eventually shutting servers down. So I do not even expect any further paid DLC/season to come along.

The only thing there that was dropped years ago was Mac support. EDH can continue to be enjoyed in VR and on consoles.

Source: Have VR and Console and can still play both.

So what is the realistic expectation on what this actually means for the PC version ?

What the statement says is that consoles were dropped to be able to further the "story" (huh ? ED has a story ?! On which planet is that hidden - Raxxla, I suppose ? One in 400 billion chance to ever experience the story...).

Does anybody believe that this actually will pan out differently, more positively ?
Nope, that's just it. We can't believe in the honestly honesty of FDev either, not after the release of Odyssey and their supposed "working branch" that was coming after the alpha, even less after an entire year of saying they were working on the console release when they didn't even knew if they could release the game. For all we know they could be already on the process of unplugging everything while they promise future development on PC with their honestly honesty.

As I read it, only updates consoles will get now will be minor bug fixes or changes that also apply to Horizons. Also, reading between the lines, it seems like minimal updates for Horizons.

Seems like FD are doubling down on Odyssey.
How is it that doing less is doubling down? Are you kidding me? I guess is time I double down my efforts at work by just doing 4 hours a day, if I'm lucky I may even get a raise!!!

This has to be one of the worst takes I've seen on here so far. You think a STEAMDECK can out perform this game when compared to a series x or ps5? You're pretty deluded if you think a handheld only capable of 720p to maintain playable framerates is somehow more capable than current gen consoles (costing $500) that even the PC master race can't replicate all capabilities in a 1 to 1, feature for feature comparison for less than a grand.

Might need to re-educate yourself on that one.

Keep in mind, I have a Ryzen 7 5800x, liquid cooled of course, 64gb of trident memory, an evga rtx 3080, 4tb of nvme storage, another 2tb of hard disk storage, All mated on an X570 Asus Strix motherboard.. A 1000w evga modular psu, an elgato pcie capture card and all that is wrapped up beautifully in a CM 500m Mid tower case. I play on both PC and console, I am lucky to have both available to me. Most of my friends on xbox however do not. So even tho I have a machine perfectly capable of chewing up EDO and spitting it out at a comfy frame rate. I'm not gonna put in the effort. Not without my brethren, not without my current progress, without thise things it just isn't happening.

Keep in mind that I also have a PC MASTER race... But I was giving here, a viable solution for those who are used to play in their living room.

my PC :
AMD 5950x + x570 Taichi Razer Edition + 64Go (4x16Go) G.Skill CL16 3600MHz + 3080 Ti FE + AIO Capellix Elite 360 +1 NVMe System + for Game 1 Raid 0 NVMe 1To (2x500Go) + 6 Disk 2To SSD (2,5") for Storage + PSU Corsair 1000w i (i monitor in/out power) on 680x Corsair Tower.

Best regards

90 days tops?

It is not a question of Quality (graphic I suppose). It's a question of gameplay, of depth, of features... The game is getting more and more complex with the ship interiors that are coming... I'm not surprised that the development on consoles has stopped.

Content creators rubbishing the game since their little "roundtable". Concerted efforts by players to review bomb it, and drive Frontier's share prices down. Constant insults of their employees incessantly on the forums. Developers and CMs getting threatened and harassed on their personal social medias.
Yes, let's blame the victim.
The reason it got 'review bombed' was because it was released a year too early, barely touched the 'flying a spaceship' part of the game and was an anaemic first person shooter with super-extra grind. FPS gamers don't want to ride a taxi for ten minutes to enter an engagement and pilots (not all) just wanted to explore some zero G environments like space, ghost ships and their own cockpits (and maybe have the occasional shootout both dirtside and in 0G) - y'know, spacelegs!
A note to the portion of the PC crowd that are now gloating doing funny I wee on your grave dances. Amusing, absolutely. But you're next, guys. Because this is not a successful company full of talented developers that can now "focus" on delivering a fantastic product. This is a struggling company in decline with poor communication skills, a weak leadership and a tanking share price. You think you've somehow cut the ballast and will now soar? Think again. There's no passion left at Frontier. Just a slow crawl to further decline.
Ouch! I 100% don't disagree with this statement, is nicely constructed and bears repeating.

@Fdev: Can we have clouds and weather now please?

my compliments…you are riding everyone's wave…great promises and then great excuses…this is your thanks for the consoles community…my compliments again

I didn't provide my system specs as a form of bodily measurement. I provided it as context of someone being a PC and console player simultaneously and not just one or the other. Also to further solidify the fact that my machine could run EDO without issue. That, without my current progress and social circles I've gained on console, it won't ever run on my system and fdev will never receive any money from me for any of their games going forward. (Ashame too, I used to love planet coaster.) And no, the steamdeck is not a viable solution, not yet anyway. I've tooled around with one, it just isn't there yet. I think it needs another couple releases before it will be solid enough.

Whilst im sad for the many console players this will turn out to be the best decision FDEV ever make.

Development on an ever changing platform where XB/PS etc are competing against each other and seem to release a new product every few years is a waste of time.
Consoles cannot compete with PCs in a complex game with multiple possible commands.
The only games that have pulled off cross platform are those that were specifically designed for it from the start and have a limited amount of key commands to use (ESO for example) and still the console community complained that they were at a disadvantage in PvP so the game was 'dumbed' down even more and many left.

Again i feel for those that were hoping to have console support but maybe now we can move on and the developers can concentrate on all the stuff folks have been asking for and make what is a great game even better.

i will just say i am shocked given the year fdev have had that they are abandoning two more platforms, it also does give an indication on the future of Elite that each new dlc will see a requirements hike that in this case no console will be able to keep up with. I think its future proofing as currently they might get it to work on series X and ps5 but the next one wont.

its a shame that its come to this and we will see loads of people abandon the whole game because of it as well.

Unfortunately, Steamdeck isn't going to be an answer either in that case.
