Console Update

Wow, never knew that Elite had an Avengers Infinity war cross over :ROFLMAO: With Mr Braben playing the part of Thanos.

One finger click and the universe loses console players :-D

Sad day all round.

EDIT: Maybe we'll get a Avengers Endgame cross over on Next gen consoles at some point in the far future....

OK, I've calmed down a little. I have been playing since the December after XBox release - 2015. In that time I have invested thousands of hours of gameplay, the paid update of Horizons, published several documents regarding the evolving storyline, which in itself took thousands of hours, bought things from the store, achieved triple Elite, explored, traded, fought, and generally had a great time. When the Odyssey release was on its way, I waited patiently for it. I have achieved pretty much all I want to achieve in Horizons, and was looking forward to upgrading the game and investing further in Frontier's product. I have not made mention of the friends made within the various player groups I have been privileged to be a part of, and occasionally lead.

The announcement that Odyssey is now not coming to console, and that future development for console is cancelled leaves me (and thousands of others) with a big problem. We have invested in the product, and would continue to do so IF we were given an opportunity to continue our journey. Here's the rub... In order to continue investing, we need a method to do so. After 7 years, I can't start again - I need all of my progress transferring to PC. I have no problems buying a system capable of running the game both now and in the future, and no problems re-purchasing the game, particularly since I was going to buy Odyssey anyway. What I can't do and won't do is start from the beginning.

I have sold everything which is unnecessary - parked in Shinrarta with only two ships, a vault of modified modules, and billions in the bank. The assets are easy enough to move. The codex and all of the progress I have made is what I'm more interested in. Ranks, achievements, the virtual embodiment of 7 years of investment. That's what I want to keep. I think that goes for most console players too.

Its a straight forward business transaction - provide full commander transfer to PC, or lose thousands of customers and all of your reputation. Your share price is plummeting - I wouldn't invest in a company which will happily dump 1/3 of its customers without some kind of assistance programme. You are now into damage limitation. So limit the damage you have caused.

I am aware that you have said it is being discussed, but why was it not discussed prior to the announcement? Are you really so naive that you didn't see this question coming?

All these posts strike me as being the same as grieving for a lost one.
I for one, have put so much (almost all) of my spare time into playing this utterly fantastic game over the past 3 years, that I believe after 5000 hrs play I felt I have lost something and am actually grieving the loss of it.

I haven't played for 3 days now - catching up on watching Expanse, Foundation and Picard (and just found the brilliant LEXX again from about 20 years ago)

Anyway, the 5 stages are :
Denial - it will not happen - last few weeks with zero comms
Anger - THE announcement and then these forum posts - there is a lot of anger in them
Bargaining - dealing with the loss and the fact that EDH servers could only last 2,3,4,5 years(?) more
Depression - extreme sadness at the loss
Acceptance - getting over the loss and moving on - hopefully to next iteration/version of ED in 3, 4 or 5 years - otherwise, moving on to one of the other games in development as we speak.

And BTW - PC players are not safe either, with no income (from more DLCs) there will be only 2,3,4,5 years before servers are switched off - no income = no development team.

I do not understand what is so difficult to understand? Read David Braben's message.
Frontier has been trying to optimize Odyssey for PC for a year and fails.
That's why there's no point in releasing it on consoles.

My guess:
It's just not worth it financially.
The revenue from console sales was certainly budgeted during the development of Odyssey.
Now add 1 and 1 together.
It’s not just about Odyssey. They’re ending all console support - period. Now add 1 and 1 together.

I checked how many hours I’ve put in:

PC - 270 hours.
PlayStation - 1546 hours.
Please explain how you found how many ED hours you've invested on PlayStation. I just spent the better part of an hour trying to find it for my account with no luck. According to numerous Google search results, that information just isn't available. Google search results are rarely 100% accurate, so I'm still hoping the info actually is available.

I bought my PS4 as a stop-gap when my PC died. It's about time I got around to building a new one.
Regarding my time on PS4, I regret the things I didn't do, not what I did.
With luck it won't be too long before I join the cmdrs on PC.
I don't relish unlocking the engineers again but mostly it's my unique paint-job and decals that I would miss.

Go into the Codex right hand panel whilst in-game, it’s in the first page in weeks, days & hours.

Can't say I'm surprised. We console players all knew in our hearts this was coming due to the lack of news.

FDev, please make certain you post some sort of communication within the console version clients regarding this. Not everyone trolls around in the forums or social media. Allowing users to continue purchasing ARX without having the full story on the future of their platform is not a good look. You should also remove the PS and XBOX logos from your EDO product page since it is now 100% false advertising.

I have thousands of flight hours on Playstation since it was released June 2017 and will continue on PC if all of that effort can be kept alive (runs surprisingly well on a Steam Deck). But if FDev didn't have a full console to PC transfer option ready prior to this announcement, then I'm afraid that is already a demonstration of their commitment. There would have been zero additional harm in delaying the announcement until a viable full transfer option was ready. Some honey to make the medicine go down easier.

What truly sucks is that I managed to get my wife into flying, but now she's "what's the point? This is just the pre-announcement to actually shutting down the console versions." After months of being intimidated by the mail slot, she performed her first manual take off and landing without scaping paint (or worse) last week. I felt like a proud parent when their kid walks for the first time... lol.
Tried and pretty much failed to get my gf into ED… I can only imagine the heartbreak at having this happen right when your wife has successfully completed her first take off and landing. 😞

No they are not. They are keeping the console going, doing critical fixes, but not adding anything extra to it.
Oh hell yeah only critical fixes! Sorry I forgot to mention the only thing we’re getting - the critical fixes. I never said they were shutting the game down, I said they’re ending support for consoles, yes, save for the super duper critical fixes which add no content lol

I'm not nor will I ever ask for a refund of the game, I've enjoyed my time in the galaxy and had my money's worth. But I would like to get a refund for the small fortune I spent on ARX in preparation for Odyssey since it's coming to console announcement. Also I'm seeing absolutely nothing in the PC version of Odyssey that the PS5 couldn't handle at half power, No Man's sky and FFXI handle it perfectly on last gen and are both crossplay. Bad coders in the office is the real problem, not the consoles
