I can't and won't argue against your feelings, but I understand. It's one of the reasons why I have encouraged my son to get the continuously developed games on PC rather than console, he loves the Monster Hunter series and has a lot of hours in Monster Hunter World on his Xbox One, Capcom won't allow account migration to PC (maybe same issue as FDev face?) so at some point that's going to the way of our Minecraft worlds on Xbox 360, although now we have OG Minecraft on PC for when he wants to play that. There's an upside to console in that the initial investment is cheaper but there is a downside to being locked to a closed platform they operate, but then there are lots of other cool console games that aren't out for PC, along with exclusives, so again it's all relative, but it's not all upsides.
I don't know if my son will get a Series X, he doesn't seem that interested but maybe he will if it means he can continue with Monster Hunter World, but that wouldn't have been an issue if he had got it on PC, it's something we talked about leading up to Christmas, and he isn't interested in getting it on PC as he doesn't want to start over again, which a lot of folks statements on here echo, and is totally understandable. Honestly, I think Sony & MS have a lot to do with it, they've made exceptions with crossplay but one wonders at what cost to the developer, but really, should it in the first place? Especially in the area of account migration, MS & Sony know that any console has a limited life-time.
