Content Recap - Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Exploration and the Codex

Asteroid Clusters will not provide credits for scanning them at this time.

Then we better be able to filter them to never display in the FSS the same way we can filter the Navigation panel to never show them. Or just remove them from the game because they're utterly worthless and in my way.

They weren't exactly clear on how things would be if you didn't have one in the stream. Whether or not we could still find stuff just flying around or if we need the scanner for signal sources.

But either way i feel the same way that e ven now it should have been just a standard ship feature. It just seems like a basic amenity.

In both Live streams so far they have said that you will still be able to see things pop up when close. However, i think that this exploration change will make going to the Nav beacon more important when in the bubble.

So now scan data will just be distributed freely throughout the galaxy once it has been sold to Universal Cartographics? Isn’t this the same data that was previously sold by UC to CMDRs who couldn’t be bothered with scanning it themselves? How can UC possibly sustain themselves under this new scheme? Where will they get the credits to buy our data? How will they be able to maintain the infrastructure needed to transmit the data galaxy wide? Think of the jobs lost. This is going to create an economic crisis of galactic proportions.
Their current business model is totally broken anyway. At the moment they pay out to every commander who scans a body or system, regardless of whether or not someone else has already found it. That's even less sustainable than the model proposed in Ch4. 😉

Obviously, someone is paying UC shiploads of credits for those scans. I've never had an issue with multiple scans either, the extra scans of previously surface scanned bodies just improves the data quality. I'm guessing UC sells the data to numerous parties who will mine or terraform those bodies or some other uses I can't think of right now. For all we know those scans can contain more data than we can presently see and require additional analysis to resolve interesting finds that are worth a lot more than we get paid.

I'm out in the void with a DSS engineered with a G5 long range scan, what will happen to that upgrade? Will I lose it or will it be replaced with a new upgrade?

My guesstimate is that you will lose the G5 upgrade, to be replaced by the infinite ammunition DSS.

Can somebody please confirm if first player to sell exploration date gets "first discovered by" still applies? X and Y both found planet 123. X found it first, but Y sold data first. So Y gets first discovered by reward? I understand that you can discover some planet first then lose your ship so it makes sense that the person who sold data first gets it.

AFAIK that's correct. First to scan and sell gets the tag, both now and in Ch4.

In the live stream it showed geological features on the surface of a body, yet I can't seem to get the short-range composition scanner to work. I've been in SC and switched modes but no luck. :)

You have to add it to a firegroup like the old ADS. The new DSS rocks I am finding planetary features all the time its genuinely excellent.

The FSS is poor though. It needs to be cut or reworked.

Cheers. I should have added that it was bound to a fire group. Perhaps it's the type of body i'm trying to scan. :)

Regarding the codex, when this goes live, will my current first discoveries be added to it? Trying to find answers to this is proving difficult while I'm juggling an increasing work load ... at work. :)

FD, your new FSS mechanics and UI are a total ugly crap !! Is that all you can do for a 2018 space game ?

Regardless of whether you personally like the way it's been implemented or not, some people will have spent a large amount of their time designing and developing this stuff.
I understand that you're just trolling but comments like this are just hurtful and disrespectful.

It's not big or clever. How about a little kindness or a thought for how your comments might impact others?

Anyone playing the beta has been attacked while in scan mode? Do we need some alert system (situation awareness) when exploring, which warns us about approaching ships? Or is this not necessary?

I have, by NPC's a few times. It just pops you right out of the FSS and into the interdiction screen, which then immediately flashes the "SUBMITTING" up on the HUD because you are of course at zero throttle.

There's no time for an alert because you are sitting still. What would be nice is to either:

1. Allow the FSS to be used while moving or out of supercruise.

or

2. Implement the ship radar into the FSS screen.

Yeilds Suck

new tools are cool but limpet efficiency is very bad atm. yeilds are very poor not worth the effort you guys have to take some thought into making it easi er to get target yeilds.

in which century do we actually live so that those probes explode over a low orbit? wouldn't it be more proer if they didn't explode if we set a correct path and they just fly around the planet and return tot he ship? basically like even today some sattelites use gravity of aplanet to get a flight path?

They are filled with nano-bots, the probe head explodes to disperse the bots across the area shown in blue; the remaining portion of the probe acts to collate the data and transmit it to the ship.
