Content Recap - Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Exploration and the Codex

Will the new lighting system make use of HDR monitors? That means more bits per color (e.g. 10 or 12 rather than 8) and a greater range of brightness.

The only thing that really hit me as odd was the carets or symbols on top of each signal that didn't look quite right. I understand the spread etc, but the icons themselves are .... out of place and don't fit the UI style. They need to improve them.

Mouse+keyboard concern regarding the new scanning UI: will we be able to move the view with the mouse? Will it be a 1:1 translation of mouse movement? Right now the closest equivalent here is the SRV turret view, which is utterly terrible with a mouse if you also set it up to fly your ship properly (regarding power curve, dead zone etc, sensitivity).

I'd like to know too. I'm hoping its very usable with the mouse. Looks easy with a controller with with HOTAS it wouldn't work well at all.

I have to say....

These changes showen in the livestream are AWESOME! This is what i was wishing for how exploration should be!

I can't wait to do that my own. I just can't wait anymore. There was SO much to see! What ship was that in the Background? Raxxla and the Dark Wheel got their own Codex entry!?

Awesome work and i hope i can get into it as soon as possible! Keep going with this great work!

Thank you guys

I would just like to express my sincere gratitude to you guys for the work you guys have put into Beyond. It can be a bit scary when developers decide to modify gameplay in such a large way. May of them wind up inadvertently destroying many of the mechanisms that made the game enjoyable. The most impressive to me is how you guys reduced flying time to create more meaningful gameplay, yet you left the massive enormity of the milky way completely in tact... And for that, I am very pleased and congratulate you!!!

Lets see how long before players are p!ssed, that they cant honk and discover whole system anymore. And that they have to waste time in the manual scanner.
Mission in new system? -Sit and google on blobs. Easily visible interesting planets, rings, configurations? - Not anymore.
Exploration will drop a lot, in what, 2-3 months?

Totally agree, when we saw this on our visit to FD I just thought, what's with the ascii '^' graphics?

Suggestion: Give us a way to listen to the natural radio sounds from the planets and moons outside of the scanner. An easy solution would be to have a button in the navigation panel, when you select a body there could be a button to toggle this body's sound on and off. These sounds are so cool and eerie and I can imagine driving around a moon while listening to the radio sound from its parent body.

Missions: Purchase the system data. Scan the nav beacon.
Furthermore, they changed the mechanic so that all planets are already known, if a commander already scanned the system and sold the data. Community effort matters now and this is a GREAT change!

+rep, I wish I had an HDR monitor. I would settle for dithering though ;)

Another question I have is with regards to those of us who choose to use tools like ED Market Connector to collect and upload data to EDDN/EDDB/Inara/EDSM.

In the current state of the game once we have discovered a planet and performed a detailed surface scan on it; or it was already revealed to us we can never scan it again. This means that we can not collected and upload material availability on a planet surface to the data networks once the planet is already discovered. Which raises the below concern.

With the new system of discovered and mapped data being made available to any commanders who arrive in a system discovered/mapped by another commander are we still going to be unable to scan these planets to collect and upload this data for the communities use?

If it hasn't been thought about, can we please have it enabled that you can still use the new ADS mechanic to "re-scan" already discovered planets to not only view the data on screen but also report that planets data to the CMDR's log as it current does now? This would be a huge benefit for those of us who choose to upload data for the communities use.
It seems to me that the underlying data, which is revealed once we scan a planet, is the same data as we had before. The difference is really the scan interface and the fact we don't have to approach the planet to scan it anymore. I don't think previously scanned things need a rescan.

Surface mapping, on the other hand, is definitely new.

Great work Frontier devs! These are major improvements that add a significant amount of depth and improve the game experience. :)

I'm still curious if there's a substantial amount of new stuff on planets to discover.

Love this update and all improvements but do we just gets the "magical" probes ?

Giving as like 1000 limit of reusable probes (5 up to 10 times uses) and then syntesis posiblity with easy to find material like carbon or iron should not be a problem. I would like to see how probes coming back to our ship in VR:)
I don't like idea of magical probes which are visualy great but weight is 0 and are unlimited. Even small caliber ammo need to be synthesized. Creating probes &material finding would deepen our exploration lore
The current probes decision looks like a devs shortcut.

I agree with you. 1000 probes should be the limit and it only takes us 25 iron 25 nickel, 25 something else to refill the 1000. Gives us purpose for going out in the srv.

Thats for us to find out :) There were 3 categories I noticed. One of them was biologicial and "civilizations" or something so this should be interesting.

Addendum to my feedback:

* Please don't forget hotkeys for all the new features, e.g. night vision. And please, pretty please, a hotkey for request/cancel docking permission!

For those of us who use VR and VoiceAttack, this is more than just desirable.

Can't be that difficult to implement surely?

I have never been so happy with what I saw on a ED livestream than I was this evening.
The new exploration mechanics are truly beyond awesome.
We will now finally feel like true space explorers and no longer like honking truck drivers.
This is a total game changer for me.

I would like to kiss every ED dev, but I am afraid they would have me locked up.

I'm not talking about being forced to re-scan the system to get the data on my map in-game. I'm talking about being able to scan something discovered by another player in-game that didn't have the data uploaded to EDDB yet.

If we can't re-scan something to see it in the new FSS; that means we won't get the bodies data output to the text file Commanders Log the game generates for consumption by third party apps; which means you can say goodbye to automatic updates of engineer materials present on bodies for any already discovered systems.

This means if X% of the bubble is already discovered and scanned by players who didn't use tools to report this to EDDB; we will never see the data on EDDB/Inara for planetary engineering materials unless someone painstakingly updates every single planet.

Now it's looks like Frontier short coming..

Disagree - this can be handwaved away by "the DSS module constantly and passively collects the material required to synthesize planet matter probes, as you fly through space" - kind of a similar idea to the fuel scoop works.

This is beautiful ... this is what I hoped to read tonight!
