News Content Recap: Beyond - Chapter Four Livestream - Exploration and the Codex

<insert interesting="" thing="" of="" your="" choice="" here="">
* FDev -really- missed the point of "Travelers". Travelers do NOT honk for credits (mostly), they honk to get a quick overview of the system to see whether or not it'll be interesting enough to spend more time in. But we knew this and we knew that FDev had completely missed the point here. It was more just stray hope that they had addressed this. Giving "honkers" more credits is almost completely pointless.<insert interesting="" thing="" of="" your="" choice="" here="">
Travelers : it's not about the credits for many, it's about systems with interesting orbits and configurations.
When they mentioned the word "traveler" I knew they botched that part of it. I don't know whether they got the impression from the doofus yogurts on these boards who draw a blank when they have to read a post with a sentiment different from theirs and need to paraphrase that sentiment in terms they can comprehend but completely missed the point, or whether they just didn't have a solution.

Livestream 1: Don't worry honkers, you still get paid for just honking systems! :)
Feedback: Don't care about being paid, we care about information. :|
Livestream 2: After listening to your feedback, we went back to the drawing board and decided you will get paid for just honking systems! :)

So yeah, we'll not be hunting for Stellar Forge oddities anymore, which is a shame since I believe it could work very well indeed with the new mechanic. Now the focus shifts to the planet surface and the POIs. They have to carry the interest now. Time will tell if they're able to do that.</insert>

how?? i'm happy with a general link or pointer since this has probably been suggested already, i just didn't wade through all the related threads ...

Yeah, various ideas in various threads, sorry, a bit weary of that one after those related threads you mention since I spent most of my time correcting people who have issues when they need to read English, so not going to dig that up again. After all, they might post again :)

edit: See, reading another thread you get morons like this:
doofus yogurt said:
Basically, they are Explorers, that don't want to fkn explore. FD are really shocked right now i guess. They never expected rant from an explorer about actual exploration. Neither am i..

That's just silly.

What's done is done and no use rehashing that.

i have to say...the codex sounds impressive.
i think i will enjoy watching the rumoured tab too (who finds Raxxla first?). Someday i will build an Anaconda for exploration...
so yes, thanks for this, cant wait for the other releases o.o
(though i still want a new SRV)

I'm glad you have maintained the payout for "honk and go" and thought of explorers already in the black, with unlimited probes and the use of existing scanners.

The rest of it I want to try myself, especially in VR.

Great job FD. Appreciate the new milestones and pleasant surprises, probably more to come and then the new era of milestones post-Beyond.

Looks neat.

Two things though, first I think that the orrery view could be a bit more chibi (compressed), and second (scratch this, I misremembered and am stupid and all that).

There, fixed it for you.. ;)

Hmm, not entirely sure I agree here.

Yes, the quick overview has lost (or at least changed) a lot of information, but in order to explore the planetary surfaces / POIs you'll have to firstly have done a system scan on the body/bodies.

Once you've done that, the brand new Orrery will be even better at showing Stellar Forge oddities.

I do agree the rapid decision making on a per-system basis while traversing along a route is gone to some extent.

Most oddities are around gas giants. As it will be easy to identify gas giants, just concentrate on those and you could be fine. Yes it won't be as quick as before, but it could be more rewarding.

Irony intensifies :)

Not sure which part you are not entirely sure you agree on :)

Hunting Stellar Forge oddities is a 1 in a lot of systems kind of deal. Since most systems don't have oddities, otherwise they wouldn't be oddities. You may inadvertently find odd systems now while looking for POIs, and yeah, if you scanned the entire system the system configuration is shown beautifully in the orrery, but the hunt becomes rather stale if you have to do this every system.

Fact of the matter is, the POIs need to be the thing that has to carry our interest for a long time. They will become the driving force. Time will tell whether they'll be able to do that.

I have to admit that, having watched last nights stream one of four and then Malic, I am slightly worried for our membership, although I keep telling myself this is FDev though :) - (well done chaps and chapesses)

Just watched the thread - It looks like a whole new game, and this is only part of the update. Very impressed, and looking forward to trying it out.

They have been very busy.

Exactly none of this works if there are not enough interesting PoIs with interesting things to do before/during/after the visit to these PoIs. All we have really seen so far is improvements to scanning and recording not "exploration".

I like the scanning improvements but I would really like Frontier to tell us more about exploration as a whole, the full experience.

All I have to say is 'Great job!!'. I was initially very cautious regarding the exploration changes, but seeing it live appeased all my fears! I am really looking forward to trying out the beta!

Thank you, Frontier, keep it up!
Great livestream!

Is it best to return discovered data before the update?

Hi

Quick question that I thought of from watching the live stream, if we already have a large amount of discovered data (including surface scans) is it best to return to the bubble to hand this data in to get both the credits and the discovered tags as it appears to me (but happy to be wrong) that all the surface scan data I have collected so far will be replaced with the new probe scanning system, and therefore lost? Or will my surface scans so far (that aren't handed in) remain known to me and therefore I will get the 'mapped by' tag on my return after the update?

Interesting :)

The hunting of Stellar Forge Oddities no longer being viable.

Although...

Hunting Stellar Forge oddities is a 1 in a lot of systems kind of deal. Since most systems don't have oddities, otherwise they wouldn't be oddities. I do get that (the needle in a haystack thing). I do have to admit that most of the Stellar Forge Oddities I found was because I was travelling around the system to do DSS'ing (for whatever reason), and -then- finding strangeness once I got closer, saw the bodies, saw the orbit lines, etc.

I get it that there's *loads* of different things people consider "odd" or "interesting". We'll have to wait and see how many doors the new mechanisms have closed, and how many new doors they've opened, once we get to play with them ourselves.

The current impression I got is certainly that we'll get a lot of the pertinent information slower.
