ANNOUNCEMENT Content Reveal Livestream - September Update - Recap

Well, this is one of those things that are very difficult to advertise to the existing Galaxy Population, gotta keep that in mind.

It's important for the Game (initial accessibility for brand new customers), very important.
I remember being literally overwhelmed by the Controls Configuration alone when I first Installed, it delayed me really taking off for almost a full month back in the pre-Release testing Days.

So while it may add very little for seasoned Commanders, I fully understand the significance of allocating resources to the "New CMDR experience".

PS.
Bugfixes and the fineprint of the Patchnotes at release day usually hold a few gems - so there's almost always some good stuff in there for everybody.
Yep, for me some of the initial training guides were v. poor. How many times did I shoot past a space station instead of arriving at it because I was actually doing what I was told to do in that training program?!? I soon ditched those early training guides altogether and just learned from doing and going online for answers.

I was initially in favour of this change but maybe you are correct and all the splash screen options should only work when docked.

Want to buy that limited time paint job but not in a station? DENIED! Run for a station!
Want to remap your controls out in the black? DENIED! Should have mapped it before heading out, ya loser!
Want to log in to a different mode? DENIED! Mode changes only in stations.
Change graphics options? DENIED! Choose your graphics in the station and DEAL with it.
Want to log out of the game? DENIED! No logouts unless docked - stock up of caffeine before undocking.

I think that's where you're heading - right? 🤔
Maybe two more tablets and a nice lie down for you, eh! ;)

I asked for years to be able to change my in-cockpit deco without docking so that I can have my bobbling Christmas tree without returning to the bubble. But repainting the complete hull while out in the back…??? This goes too far IMHO.

Then just change your paints when you're docked.
There's a choice in where and when you change cosmetics, no one forces you to slap on the newest paint while you're at Beagle Point.
There are probably people who would love to customize their ship but can't because they're out there.
Options is good imho.

If ARX is going to bring the console and PC livery system into a consistent state...

Does this mean PC people may be getting achievements similar to the consoles?

You will no longer be able to purchase Game Extras using current payment methods and instead will require ARX,
This is the worst part for me.
I can see me never buying any paint packs ever again.
What's more it will build up a credit balance I'll probably never use.

With the store, currently. If I see an item I like and think the price is fair, I'll buy it for the exact price and have the thing I want.
I will not have some daft credit amount left over because effectively FD can't make change for a tenner.

Tell me what the price is for a paint pack or bobble head and I'll pay you that!

... This mechanic ALREADY EXISTS, DON'T REMOVE IT!

How hard can it be? 🤔

Suit yourself, don't look at it. As a list of goals for new players to pursue it might be helpful.
Pandering to the snowflake generation. Really people should have grown out of needing to earn a star to stick on there jumper by the time they're old enough to play a game like Elite. Remember it has certain age advisery notices attached.

Well as long as they don't try to ram them down my throat. 🙄

Something else that might give us things to do and reasons to hang out in the game, populating the server(s) and making things look busy is a companion list of Tourist Beacons in the Codex, using the rumoured, reported and personally confirmed mechanic we currently have for other stellar phenomena.

From the external spreadsheets I've seen, many of the lower numbered ones in the lore ranges haven't been discovered yet, including ones that might assist in the quest for the TDW station and Raxxla. Could there be a way to populate your list by examining passenger mission destinations in the Galaxy map?

A new icon for this idea might also be handy to track objectives and free up some bookmarks?

meh-intenence update.

im not a new player.

I will not be buying livery items until/if something in this game starts to interest me.

so.....i have zero reaction to this update.

I guess since paint jobs will NEVER cost an amount of ARX you can actually buy players will always be giving FDev more money to "hold" for them then they actually need to spend on amy given paint job so great thinking Tencent...I mean FDev.

"hey this nifty new paintjob is only $2.00! guess I'll give FDev $5 so I can buy it."

Greetings Commanders,

As always, it is great to read through all of your feedback and review how you received our streams.

As we mentioned at the start of the year (here), this year's initial updates are designed around making the game easier to get to grips with in the initial stages and improving the quality of life overall in-game. Both the April and the September Updates do bring about changes to make information in the game more accessible as well as aiming to help new Commanders understand the complexities of controlling their first starship!

We haven't forgotten veteran players, who are fundamental to the Elite Dangerous galaxy, and we'll be bringing more information to you in the near future about the upcoming Fleet Carriers.

While i commend the new player experience updates, which tbh should have been in the game from the start, are you going to tackle the absurd backlog of bugs that plague the current state of the game, some of which were actually introduced with the April update?

Two examples, when taking a mission, repeated use of the left mfd on the 1 key, freezes the game, so need to close the game down and login again? This happens every time when you take a mission. No mission, all works fine. Secondly, the countdown counter for jumps remaining, wait until it gets to one to see the gibberish that appears. That was all courtesy of the April update, amongst others.

I'd like to think those bugs plus a bunch (bunch = as many as possible) are being or have been dealt with, it's clear internal testing is not what it should be. Since you now no longer do betas for us to help you guys out with, where stuff like this get spotted, as a regular player i can only hope this update has been tested thoroughly, which to be honest would make a change based on recent update releases. Bring back beta testing please, it really does make a difference to the quality of the game.

Facepalm! Do people not READ!?

First mission from the Horizons start at Baker's Prospect on Asellus 2 was to fly to an external system and if the planet happened to have rotated, getting in the way of a clear jump there were no instructions on how to clear the planet and make the jump by selecting a local target first to supercruise into orbit.

At the time this appeared to be a woeful oversight by FDev, and it confused some players.
I think the best way to leave a planet is to turn you ship so that it is facing 90 degrees above the surface - indicated by the 'ladders' on your HUD. Pull back until they indicate 90 and boost away until out of mass lock. Engage supercruise and an 'Escape Vector' will appear directly ahead if you have it right - if not look at the compass and it will be pointing towards the Escape Vector so follow that until it is directly ahead. Once in supercruise you will be able to select and move towards your destination system. If it is obscured by the planet, follow it around, being careful not to get too close. If you have a button mapped to headlook, use that to look towards the planet ,where your destination will show with a dashed outline and keep going around until the outline becomes solid. Once it appears you should be able to continue to engage a hyperspace jump (default key J I think).

I use this method even if the destination system is visible, especially if it is only just above the horizon, as otherwise jumping directly towards it can cause overheating problems.

Seconding and Third-ing this.

Perhaps someday, in the far future next gen of ED, FDev will consider not only doing this, but adding interactive/immersive and landable earth like worlds as well. Earth like planets that we can fly our space & air breather vehicles through. The ability to:

identify POIs on the planet on land, air, and water from super cruise (the way you can with NMS and Empyrion Galactic)
land/cruise through the atmosphere in procedural generated earth like worlds to allow NPCs to view/enjoy vistas of one to several different earth like biomes. View RNG flora & fauna from space craft, SRV on land and in ocean.
land and navigate underwater in Subnautica style under water exploration. Take tourists to POIs like to the bottom of Earth like Mariana Trenches etc etc.

Ah well. Someday.....

I'm getting excited, I know fdev are keeping this one a secret. A surprise

1. A dimmer switch to turn off or down cockpit lights
2. Filter or grouping of stored modules
3. Strobe lights on wings when approaching a station

I know this is what you're up to fdev. Come in admit it

Let the nickle and diming begin!

Commanders can earn a total of 400 ARX per week, which get added to their account there and then. These can be saved for later or spent right away!

Wowzers!!!! A whole 400arx per WEEK when the cheapest pack for sale is for 5k arx...how generous....lolz
