Controller Optimization Dualshock4

Need addition HUD buttons for L2 and R2, like now with L1 and R1, so when you holding modifier key, binds for L2 and R2 will appear in the bottom part.

Yeh I asked about this before launch and unfortunately even though Lloyd liked the idea, no cigar, same couple be applied for the touch pad too. The UI could be improved to show the DS4 layout for the multi selects but I guess its a lot of work which might or might not be time well invested in FDevs eyes.

I wonder how many players are put off by complexed control scheme.
Its an intimidating sight when you first see the plethora of controls in the options menu.
The fact that we're reconfiguring our controls shows that it's not right straight out of the box.
It worked on the PC as I had a whole keyboard to put all the various do da's I needed.

The ability to change between analogue and switch mode on these buttons.
Its such a pain at the moment due to how many different things we need to control.
The ability to download a setup in a particular style and just try it,make changes and re upload it for others to use would be great.
I'm pretty sure the community would come up with some really good setups pretty quickly and make the game much more accessible.
The possibility of changing your setup for different roles becomes an option at that point.

That's make sense, you can have a different layouts for cargo, combat, exploring etc. But i can't imagine a how we are import and distribute layouts, via link, file or network profiles? Might be at the start will be nice to add functionality to change between different layouts in menu, like "Custom 1" and "Custom 2" settings, and after that thinking about sharing layouts via some service.

I like the idea of sharing layout, via some sort of service. But maybe we should start with just multiple custom layouts, for different playstyles (combat, mining, exploration etc.) maybe even ship-applied. Like hardpoints system but for layouts.

I've always kept my controls as close to default as possible simply because I chop and change between ps4, vita and xbox/linx tablet :)
The ds4 has by far the better control scheme due to the touchpad although I might mess about with the landing settings as I've read a few good suggestions in this thread I can use across all platforms!

The game is crying out for more than one custom bind profile especially if you've got a hotas! Mines still sat in a box as it's too much of a pain to keep rebinding :(

I can't box my Hotas because it is just way to awesome...but we definitely need to see control profiles added. It is practically inexcusable not to save a profile for different controller types! Every time I switch to ds4 for some relaxed material farming or SRV driving, I have to rebind the Hotas again.

I don't have anything bound to R3. I did have headlook bound to R3, but I found that when I was getting into the heat of battle, I'd press too hard on my right stick as I steered my ship, and I'd accidentally activate headlook. I now have headlook set on the right corner of the large square button in the centre of the controller.

The ability to save and share control bindings should be a thing.
Make it so FD,let the players set the optimum setup with our hive mind.
Because out of the box the controls just aren't right.

Sadly it's not as straightforward as that. Saving and sharing controller schemes would mean essentially sharing save data (albeit just settings) between users, something which you're not able to do on the PlayStation 4. If you were able to do this then it would make Trophies pointless as you could just load up save games that someone else had made progress on!

I don't use a ds4 but if I did, I'd have both the settings for the t4 and the ds4 written down. It only takes a minute to completly change from one to the other if you've got them written down.

Don't know if it will work, but using the ps4 controler reconfiguration in settings allows one to reconfigure the ds4. Using the game controler setting allows one to reconfigure the hotas 4. Click the check box in the ps4 controler settings allows one to use the ds4 reconfigured buttons. Unchecking the box, allows one to use the hotas 4.

DO NOT utilize one while in the other's settings.

It's a console not a pc, thus it will never have all the reconfiguration abilities. Much is the same way, one ship can't do everythiing as well as one ship designed and modified to do one thing well. Yes, one can haul passenger in a fighter, and a passenger ship can be moddded to fight. But neither can do the other as well as the intended purpose of the ships design. A fighter is not a bus nor visa versa. A miner is not a fighter nor visa versa. A hotas is not a ds4 nor visa versa. A ps4 is not a pc nor visa versa.

I wonder if there's any way for the game to access a screenshot posted by another user on PS4. Encode the controller scheme to a QR code and save that out as a screenshot.

On the PS4 console settings page>Application Saved Data Management > Saved data in System Storage> Copy to USB Storage Device>Elite Dangerous> you'll see a game configuration settings file.

Could this his not be saved to a USB then emailed to another user? Not sure if the file would work on another user's system.

Save data is locked to your PlayStation account, it wouldn't work if any other user tried to use it.

You could store them server-side (I.e. serialized json), de-duplicate identical profiles and have the user select from all uploaded profiles of all ingame-friends.
I know that this involves changes to the server code, but that should work for all platforms then.
