Copied content in steam workshop.

I only used Silvarret as an example, but you get the idea. I'm mostly referring to people who take someone else's work, change the color, and then claim it as there own work, or maybe not even change the color. Plagiarism, to the point. I don't expect a lot of this at first, but once full release rolls around it could get bad. Just wanted to bring the topic up so everyone knows to downvote and report plagiarism if and when it happens.

Why would people try to claim work that isn't their own anyways? (I mean in this context, I don't think we get any monetary compensation for sharing and any "Fame" or recognition that might be obtained seems like it would evaporate quickly once the fraud is exposed and reported...)

Since steam is easy to use and all, just use the report button like already stated.

Eventually people will upload and claim that its their own, thats just nature and it will happen. It's sad but you see this kind of behaviour in all sorts of contents on the net, from pictures, logo's, covers etc.

Still wonder what incentive people would have to engage in such behavior...

I never understood why people would do it. As with all things, there will always those kind of people. Its just called life ;-)

With steam there are ways to 'punish' those people if they keep on doing it.

I do have a question: What if someone downloads something, changes it (and not by simply recoloring it) and then uploads?

I think that has to go on a case by case basis and how much change was made. I myself am going to get ideas from other people, just like anyone else. Use personal judgement on whether or not it's been changed enough to upload, and if you have doubts, don't, or make sure to give credit to the original author for the basis of your content.

Because of the same modular pieces that everyone is using, it will probably be just a matter of time (with the simpler buildings) that some of them may look a bit similar from different designers.

This thread is so funny.
I just imagined "Celebrity" Fanpeople controlling the workshop. Just woke up and had a real laugh. Thank you.

But to be serious. Sharing things for free means losing the control and making Frontier "to deal" with it or picking up torches and pitchforks is not a good idea. 30 years experience of sharing in funfair modelling. So I know what i am talking about. My advice would be in this case:

and just don't use it.

it is a nightmare but you do have to let it go and enjoy the freedom this game gives us
with freedom comes great responsibility so far i think 99.99999999% here have shown respect and i do think we will continue to do so
game coming to steam is a mega step forwards so embrace
we dont need raise this if you understand the game is about freedom to create
you dont have to share every blueprint you create !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so step 1. is chose do you want to share if yes who with done

Reading this thread it sounds to me like the general masses are being discouraged from sharing their creations on the workshop here. The master builder people are good but don't have a monopoly on this. Everyone should have a chance to shine.

i have a solution, if you plop a blueprint, those pieces become tagged, if they are tagged they cant be used in another blueprint- problem solved.

Not a bad idea, tag the blueprint "Made by XXX" - however I don't see a problem with others editing and saving it out to their workshop as long the tag of the original remains there - this will let collaboration on a project possible, however I can't see that being possibly unless the blueprint in game remains tagged, even after removing a lamp or adding a window.

We just have to be kind and share and get along, or don't subscribe to the ones you don't know about.

what? i think you greatly misunderstood, I am speaking about the ACTUAL PIECE that was plopped from the blueprint not every pieces ever used again, cmon now your smarter than that.

So, to copy they'd have to download it from the workshop, and simply re-upload it right?

How about PC gets a system that prevents re-uploads of blueprints downloaded from the workshop? And then maybe you can re-upload if you change some parts of the blueprint, unless that causes a issue where someone re-uploads with an extra prop attached instead of making an actual change.

Everyone has a chance to 'shine' !!
But please without copy from another 'builder/constructor/artist/etc'
