Core Mining UI Bug

After discovering the issue I was having with connecting to ED servers for several months (the game tried to connect through Hamachi instead of my hardline lol) I came back to finish my quest to Elite status through core mining. Looked up a Odyssey tutorial on core mining in case anything had changed and noticed that the UI, color scheme, and way to identify core asteroids had changed to benefit the player. I was excited to get started. Got my Anaconda, loaded it out for mining, finally found a good Musgravite hotspot AAAAAND its the same as before..... no UI update, not changed colors, no easier to see asteroids, it was all the same and just as frustrating. What gives? Was the update temporary and I missed it? Is it not public yet? Is it a setting I need to find? Please help.

What were you expecting to be different? If anything the black lines that used to let you know it was definitely a core when constant pinging are now gone so it's a little harder in my book. Cores are also now quite rare now so dedicated core mining is a very slow process. They do however come back with an extremely bright return. Some smaller roids with lots of surface deposits do too but you learn to discount them. It's still something that requires a bit of experience under the belt to be good at identifying them from a distance.

the video i watched showed a different color scheme and the core asteroids are significantly brighter than all the non-core and were much easier to discern.

Did some core mining last week and whenever I see a lit-rock I go looking straight for surface cracks... they are still there... then I probe to confirm what's inside.

Don't know why they're called Hot spots. Panite searching in 3 different locations, 600 Limpets and no Panite.

its gotta be more than that tho because it also messes with the brightness and visibility of the asteroids, so that the non-core asteroids are much dimmer. theres a much bigger diparity in the brightness between asteroids. how do i get that setting?

im mining right now, pws is making it much much easier then in horizons, unless im extremely lucky or bugged, the only yellow asteroids from pulse wave scanning i've been finding are the core asteroids. so most asteroids unchanged but the core asteroids stick out like a sore thumb and i'm loving it
(sorry if this is a necro)

I've noticed the same recently, finding corss is a lot less frustrating. But sub-surface asteroids are almost impossible to find now it seems. Very annoying if you're far out in the black and looking to refill your carrier.

that's the current bug added in update 12 ONLY core asteroids show up. You will see false positives(the dimer ones) that vanish when you get close and subsurface/surface asteroids don't show up.
The cores are the only ones working as intended and yes this makes them much easier to spot as its really clear what ones they are. However this only works for core mining something that isn't as useful after repeated nerfs. The majority of people still mining are generally doing it for carrier fuel and while they can be found on cores, they don't come in deep core deposits.
Very annoying if you're far out in the black and looking to refill your carrier.
I have taken to rolling back to horizons for mining. though i have a pretty good feeling Fdev wont fix this bug before we are all forced onto 4.0 if they ever fix it at all.

This is my take on it..as of Sept 2022.
Core mining with the pws is very easy. Too easy tbh. They shine like really bright it's impossible not to notice them.
The sub surface n surface you also get on a core is farmable albeit random. So before blowing it up scrub it clean.
Finding just surface & sub surface isn't working as intended I'm sure. Unless of course it is (the pws) in which case, firing at other highlighted roids with prospectors might or might not bear fruit.
Can't speak for laser mining l only ever do it if its staring me in the face.
Doubles and triple hotspots from a deep core perspective only refer to the possibility of finding them. So a double would yield twice as many cores of the doubles type shown. Course this is subject to the distance you are away from the centre of the hotspot too. The further away the less chance in my experience. But oddly @@ not always!.
Mining is ok as is. Can easily make a living. But in my view sub surface n surface need their own colours, example light green or light blue. This would make finding them too easy l guess, hence it being as it is.
Would be nice if fdev could clarify

I don't think you fully comprehend what's going on. Currently sending a prospector at a dimly lit asteroid is no different from shooting one off randomly. There is no connection between dimly lit ones and what they are made of. This is not intended and was a bug introduced 2 patches ago.

Just scraping deep core isn't a solution as they are significantly rarer and are not balanced for players to get those ores that way. An hour in edh can get you 100t+ if your just casually strolling through. In edo you're lucky to get half that if your really focusing.

Yeah agree 👍 and I think it's broke too. My point was that perhaps fdev want it thus, making em harder to farm? But yeah true its broke afaik

Also noticed that when scanning using the pws you get 3 roids with dim lights correlated to a gap which I think is supposed to be the sub surface roid but it's missing...there's even space for it.

I mean... I know the last several months have shown the teams are less competent than the ones over at EA but I find it hard to belive they would intentionally have the pws light up random asteroids that vanish and reappear based on your camera angle.

Lol that could actually be it. The roids themselves are bugged and not the PWS. So we see the reflection of the phantoms. It would explain why EDO rings are significantly less dense.

Could also explain why they haven't fixed it considering all the reports have them looking at the pws.
