Coul FDev roll back the planetary update and shaders?

I totally agree with that and I really like the words you chose.

So when some people say that the game works ok when it reaches acceptable performance for them on their machine, i disagree. The game will work ok when it reaches the expected performance on any machine FDev targets.
I wouldn't say I disagree with people who say performance is acceptable for themselves (even if I have in the past; perspective can change), but I certainly disagree with people who say performance is "fixed" or "vastly improved" now.

Again, comparative to other games, EDO runs extremely poorly given that it's not doing anything visually that's advanced. It isn't employing ray tracing, it isn't calculating orbital physics and gravity in real time, doesn't employ any sort of Physx Hairworks. It's still the Cobra engine, just with PBR now. PBR isn't exactly cutting edge either.

I think there's also the aspect of it only being an expansion to an existing game and not a whole new release in and of itself. Generally speaking, DLC expansions usually abide by the same system recs as the base game, or at least relatively close to them. Usually most people expect that if they can run the base game, they can run the expansion since it's essentially still the same game, just expanded. Plus this is a multiplatform title, so changing system recs for just a DLC is a pretty big issue for consoles since those are not modular.
 
Well, for ships and SRVs at least, it apparently does actually calculate "orbital physics" (acceleration due to gravity and relative location of object and velocity) in "real time," but that's probably beside the point, and has little to do with game performance.
