Could Aisling Duval not be who we think she is? (A fringe logic discovery from lore)

I was traipsing through Achenar (like you do) looking at tourist beacons (did the Achenar challenge btw!) And I found this and it made me realise something profound.

If this is true:

How was Aisling Duval born?
I have several ideas

  • Is not related to the Duval bloodline
  • was Gene modded before conception to be born female by her father (which might be why he was declared unfit to be king)
  • A man dressing as a woman (Kahina Loren, Salome mentioned a wig...note: not all crossdressers wear wigs)
  • she is a our first transgender power. (That would... kinda be amazing... and makes sense with gene-modding that prevents females failing with unexpected results)

Now there unfortunately is one caveat

"This restriction was gradally phased out over the years."

To me it's not clear whether this refers to the genetic techniques that was done to prevent female children (and in what way?) or a legal/social restriction on women being emperor. It could be either or it could be both.

What I'd like to know from you folks is which do you think is the likely answer and would FrontierDev be willing to share some lore and insight on this even if it's a wink or a nudge. ^^

What do you think? :p

As a reminder to folks, try to be civil in your posts and replies to each other.

A potential comment: I don't like folks politicizing my games and hobbies. keep em out of there!

Sorry to inform you folks, games as are all media in general are and have already been political. I'd recommend watching this video before contributing.

A very interesting discovery! Thank you CMDR, this gives me pause as far as the structure of her government as well as going so far as does she really have authority to rule?

I don't mean to offend but...

Wouldn't adding transsexual and homosexual to the game be purely for political correctnes? It's like they add black and asian people to movies about medival England now. I think ED doesn't need that nonsense. Some NPCs in mission/passenger menus don't look particularly straight already.

Okay I need to head this comment and comments like this early enough.

All media (including games) is political.

This is required watching before participating in this thread:

I'll add this to the OP.

And it would be polticial, everything done in media is political but that doesn't mean there aren't political reasons. It seems like the natural evolution of the lore that was written with regards to gene-modding.

Also, Hamilton had people of colour playing all sorts of historical folks. Didn't bother us none. :p

That entire sentence reads "This restriction was gradually phased out over the years, but the succession of Emperors has remained along the male line until recently."
The first part of the sentence is directly relating to the use of genetic manipulation, the second part clarifies that whilst the use of genetic manipulation was stopped, the male line continued to dominate the Imperial throne.

Aisling Duval was born when Microsoft wouldn't help release the game on XBox unless FDev added something sexy to it. Hence she makes absolutely no sense; eg she opposes Imperial Slavery because the imperial 'slave' trade works people to death (which it doesn't) instead of on the grounds of honour which would be acceptable. She's a rush job who was created with zero research into the actual lore of Elite and needs to be reworked somehow to be compatible with the Stop Slavery Stupid nonsense retconned out.

If you use 'but' in such sentence, you really mean to offend, sorry. Also such people exist all around me in real life, why wouldn't they in game?

Also you can't really tell which is which in real life. Almost no one I know wears their sexcual preferences on display...and if they do, I really don't care to check that.

I have no idea about the gender of Aisling, but she is not a 'standard' Duval.

Her father Harald was always a bit unorthodox. At one point as a young adult, he had a full breakdown. Possibly due to a failed genetic treatment for mail pattern baldness. He was retired from his duties as Crown Prince as a result.

Aisling's mother is not named in ED lore but we know she died from a drug overdose, when Aisling was a child. This fit rather well with Eccy G.
Eccy G was Harald's on and off girlfriend and even Hengist was quite smitten by her.
Eccy was a huge celebrity in her own right. As the number one RIG holopic model(think page 3 mid nineties) and a star of federal high society, she was a controversial choice for a Crown Prins in the Empire.

Aisling's anti slavery agenda, may well be the result of growing up with a federal mother.

She is a clone, and eventually will replace one of the 'Club'.

That's Arissa not Aisling. ;)

the imperial 'slave' trade works people to death (which it doesn't)

So who works in Torvals mines? ;)

Plus, Aisling is perfect- she is a very inexperienced young woman who is used as a figurehead to push agendas in the strictly hierarchal Imperial court. She has no power at all, its her backers who want a young, idealistic and marketable personality and with that they succeed.

In fact, all the powers are perfectly balanced, with a good split between good and bad points to them.

That's Arissa not Aisling. ;)

Oh? *Dons tin foil hat*

There was black and middle eastern people in England way back when the romans were here. So middle ages is no surprise. Just because it was a long time ago, it doesnt mean peoples didnt move around. Multi culturism isnt new. The romans practiced it, the greeks too. Everyone did.

I would expect to meet people of all walks of life, races, creeds, sexualities, gender and other assorted differences in the yr 3303. Just like I do today. Embrace it. The same applies with genetic modifications, cloning and again other assorted things that seem strange to my 21st centuries eyes. The year 3303 would be a fascinatingly diverse place.

Hmmm i wouldnt wonder if, given all the advanced and genetic technology around (well... mostly), someones gender became quite a personal choice even on biological matter.
While today its mostly a cosmetical thing it could be possible to completly change the gender at 3300 and even be capable of reproduce.
Given this, and the hope that humanity at least got their head out their backside a bit over +1000 years, the reason this isnt realy mentioned could simply be that its no big deal anymore :)

"gradually phased out"...

Duval children can be female again. Does she fit in the timeline though...?

I think I have to agree with you folks... but I have hope that it could be more.... (it's not likely to be) Would love to ask a Frontierloremaster about this.

I already suspect LYR to be Exo, considering his family and its long lineage.

Thanks for the explanation!

That's a fair amount of speculation but I like it! XD. Also different parts of the empire do things differently. You can't control everything. (though the emperor tries) Take a look at the PRISM system and what occurred there with the Loren family and the imperial slaves on that planet. The Stop Slavery Stupid thing is interesting but against very unimperial.

Aisling is literally the ONLY person in the entirety of the Empire is not a complete and total male reproductive organ.

I refuse to believe she is some secret something or other lol

 Where did you get this lore info?

And reminder folks that it could also be that she's not related to Heigts Duval. (any takers of that scenario?)
