Could or should Frontier enhance the FSS or add in and incorporate an optional ADS-like expansion module?

If the initial FSS honk would create the contacts,
would be both parties pleased?
I wouldn't mind personally.
This was basically what we were requesting back during the beta for 3.3
Populate the navpanel with unknowns, or the sysmap with black bodies.
It's been getting hate from the same few naysayers for over a year now.

EDIT: Not specifically the same naysayers, there are a few new ones I've noticed since then who never actually used the ADS, likely due to not having been playing ED back then, and so make a bunch of assumptions like that it auto-tagged every planet on the honk or somesuch, but I think they are a minority among the detractors of such a mechanic.

The ADS, which gives away 90% of the data for free and withholds only the 10% that would be obvious from a distance, isn't for me. Make it a module by all means; I don't have to get one and I doubt you could convince me that it was a good idea.

The fss gives 100 percent of the rewards for free (except for a duplicate tag). What’s worse? At least after the ads the motivation to continue is still in tact.

This just demonstrates that some people will never be happy with anything, except that imaginary game that they're playing in their head.

There’s a group of people that demand people conform to this even though it’s only for them in their brains and the game itself is something else.

It’s ridiculously easy to make everyone happy make everything optimal and complimentary.. like every other feature in elite dangerous.

None of that matters if the devs flat out don’t want to change it. It’s their game, you’re just playing in it.

If you want a basis for frontier to actually care... steam reviews are absolutely flooded with players coming to the door, seeing the pure sandbox as pointless, and leaving withing a few hours.

Its a niche crowd that can actually find purpose in thin air, and completely invaliding 1/4 of that purpose for this limited edition playerbase sounds really stupid. Its seems like indulgent behavior by a developer who is immune to or isn't tangibly effected by the success or failure of their game. This applies to every feature in the one pass only asylum.

Especially if frontier operate on a daily basis of one go only for all their features, whoever decided that removing choice to pacify an sentiment of spite was a good thing needs to have a real performance review. Haters are haters, and you can see clearly which side that comes from if you had a formal job to consider the issue. Or at best they didn't care and they just went somewhere to see who was complaining the loudest? Still bad.

I just think that FD mistakenly thought that it would be good change and now will not admit that wasn't.

So, we get stuck with a crappy system.

The trouble is that half the people on here are complaining that the FSS is painful to use and a waste of time, and the other half want to spend ages flying around the system.

There is not going to be a solution that satisfies both of them. Sure, retro-fit the ADS if it makes you happy; it certainly wouldn't me. I'm happy with the FSS. It makes sense and it has just the required amount of grind. Flying 100,000 ls to discover ten icy bodies orbiting a secondary is neither enjoyable nor profitable to me.

You have a brilliant solution there right in your problem statement. The point from the start!

Fix the fss to actually make sense (eg, putting it in the hud as has been suggested a few times), and give people the option to target bodies via the nav panel (or however) like it used to be.

Why would you consider such natural evolution (and solutions to player issues) such an impossibility? Its incredibly clear. If anything, its deaf ears we got during beta plus the politeness to allow frontier to choose the solution they see best fitting instead of demanding something specific is why some feedback might be vague. Definitely not impossible. Really simple if you wanted to do the devs job for them.
