Cross-platform play

Within the last couple of years, Xbox has come out and said they would like to do cross platform. Sony responded that cross platform is a wonderful idea and pointed to their history of it both internally (PS4-vita) and externally (as mentioned before) M$ then said that the only way they would agree is if Sony licensed XBL for their consoles. I can't find the immediate sourcing as I am on a very limited connection right now.

Isn't it Sony who doesn't want to play with Xbox? Can you provide any evidence for the how & why?

I think back in PS3 / 360 days this is from when 360 outsold PS3. Now Sony is outselling Xbox One with PS4 they have obviously decided against it. PS4 does cross play with PC though. Paragon is another example.

Dust 514 was a PS3 game, case in point.

It was Sony who first approached Xbox, they said no way Jose. Sony said OK and has never looked back.

Actually it is the other way around. It's Sony which is arogant and doesn't allow crossplay with xbox. MS is now open for that since more than a year. See Minecraft. All plattforms are playing together (PC, Xbox, Nintendo) but only $ony thinks they dont want have crossplay. So they have their own minecraft servers, while the rest of plattforms can play together. MS is still discussing this situation with Sony, the get them in the same boat as all other platfroms.

The same is true here. Xbox and PC would not be a big deal and can be done by Frontier. For crossplay PC/XBOX/PS4 the bad boy is actually Sony and not anymore MS.

It's Xbox Vs PS4 basically. Sony do cross play with PC but as it's not a direct competitor Sony are fine with that. If Xbox One had outsold PS4 like the PS4 has outsold Xbox One MS would pull the exact same stunt tbh.(and they did in the PS3/360 era) I don't like it but totally understand why Sony take the stance they do.

To be honest I am glad we don't have cross play atm with Elite as we appear to have less griefers on PS4. :D

Not that I'm interested but cpp will release their first cross play game next month called eve valkyrie. Fyi Dust514 was never a cross play game but a beta the whole time and ccp gave up on it not to mention the cross play aspect of the failed beta was limited. ED cross play will be epic.

I disagree with calling Sony arrogant. M$ said that they would be willing to do cross play if Sony agreed to license XBL framework. It isn't a, "Let's do crossplay, it will mean less headache for our customers." it is a, "Let's do crossplay, and for every PS4 you sell, you give us $$"

That is why Sony passed on the "opportunity"

Again, Sony is the company with a longer history of crossplay, and this was one of their "Revolutionary" ideas out of the M$ camp. Just like the, "You don't really own your physical games" blunder from the Pre-XB1 launch. M$ tried to become everything in your living room on their terms and it did not appeal to the customer base. They significantly outsold in the 360/PS3 era and tried to rest on their laurels and rely on "loyalty." Once PS4 started getting a significant lead, it was never going to slow. People who don't have the $$ for multiple consoles found themselves trying to decide what they would buy. These people were more likely to choose the system their friends already had. It snowballed and that is how this generation of the Console Wars has played out, just like the last one but in reverse.

I have owned multiple consoles previously. I owned PS2/Xbox, I owned PS3/X360, this generation I only own a PS4 because the XB1 doesn't offer anything I want that the PS4 doesn't already offer. I'm not just a Sony Fanboy either. If I had the disposable funds, I would be playing on PC only, but my hardware has aged out and I can't afford to upgrade further at this time.

Couldn't agree more. I've played just two games on my XB1 - Halo 5 and a bit of Gears 4 - and since then it's just sat gathering dust. The 360 had enough decent exclusives to warrant owning it alongside a PS3, but sadly that's not the case with XB1.

Although I could afford the newest bestest gaming ps and all of the available add ons. At my age, trying to learn how to utilize them in a conducive manner to playing is an endevor I know I couldn't accomplish. Heck, I only use half the darn buttons on my hotas, and have manage to reconfigure only a couple let alone the abitlity to upload, download install any or all the available options a pc has available. Reckon if I were 20 to 40 I could, but not any more. Jesus, it taken me since launch to learn half the things you youngens learned the opening week.

imo, not cross playing is like a console exclusive only title. your shooting yourself in the foot by hampering half of your audience. I'm kind of surprised it isn't more popular then it has been.

Frontier has posted about cross-platform on the Forum in the past although I'm not going to do a search to find it at the moment. My impression was that it is on the list of things to consider in the future so it is on the table. Still there are balance issues. A player on a console with a basic gamepad controller or even the current available T-Flight HOTAS 4 versus a $5000 gaming PC with $500 or more invested in controllers plus lots of aftermarket editions that the consoles are not able to support. If nothing else I figure two years away so we will have Elite combat players on the PS4 that can hold their own against a PC. As there are already experts on the Xbox maybe they should be the 'guinea pig'. We'll see how well that idea works out on the Forum. :)

I don't see balancing issues. The most important thing would be that you can use your commander on different platforms, not that you can play against different platforms.

The way it is done is based on Microsoft's services, which also get a slight side effect, and that might explain why Sony has been a little lukewarm:

- We connect everything through Xbox Live. So you sign in with Xbox Live ...

Also on Switch?

- Yes, hehe. It is also quite unique! But all those involved in this, all platform owners have been very pragmatic and understand that what we want to do is create a good experience for the players. So we needed a good system to collect everyone - and Xbox Live is a good system.

It is the arrogance of M$ that for a decade declined any kind of Crossplay and now all of sudden want to claim to be the saviour of Crossplay.
And the typical M$ arrogance of thinking companies that are in competition to M$ would use XBL as login base

naturally Sony is not intrigued to use the XBL, it also is laughable how bad this is researched in the common (US) media

I am sure that a lot of heat will come my way for this, but here goes, "I for one, am glad it's a shared universe between PC, MAC, Xbox and PS4 and no Cross Play." Why? The reason is quite simple;

The PC Players have had 3 years (some longer) to fine tune their skills. I've watched a friend, on PC play this game and it's brutal. The amount of PvP is incredible. I made a comment to my friend asking if most of the players were infected by the Rage Virus from 28 Days. It was non-stop.

Why are most of you so angry on the PC version?

Having NO Cross Play was enough to make me count my blessings as I just returned to this game, after a 30 year hiatus on PS4.

I get that there is a large bunch of PC/MAC/Xbox players that have jumped into the PS4 world, but for the most part, they are starting off on even terms. I understand they have experience and quickly build up again, but they have to relearn the controls as all of us PS4 players have to do as well.

Starting in a Cross Play Platform on PS4, would be like leaving your house with bacon strapped to your body and having to walk through 3 large Bears. Chances don't look that good for you.

Also I'd put $$ on it, that PC, MAC and XBox players would wait in starting systems for us PS4 players on start day (and beyond) and gank anything that moved, making it a most unpleasant start to a game ever.

Bottom line; it was a major relief to myself (and guessing a few others) that it's NOT Cross Platform. Personally, if you want it, leave it as an option, but I'll continue in the PS4 Universe, it's the first time playing a PS4 game where 99% of the people are actually behaving themselves and helping one another out. It's a good thing.

PC players can be the most helpful and friendly but there's a large crowd of them that are uptight. Source:ffxiv which became boring. Could care less about xplay.

I don't see why frontier would need help from the console makers for cross play or - what I'd find more important - a cross platform account. All you need is a number that links you to your account. You just enter that number on the other platform and voilà, your new console account is connected to your cmdr.

Cross platform

Hi, i think that elite staff should make cross platform a priority consumers wold probably duplicate they're purchases of the game everyone would talk about elite dangerous, i believe it is possible even now that we are already in the brink of 2.4, so i ask please make the game run in multiplatform the gallaxy wold be much filled with gammers and remember that someone who plays pc or x-box or mac or ps4 alloways now someone who doesn't have the same platform as himself, it wold be free publicity and of course a lot o f fun.
