cross platform unification?

I thought you had all this : It's NOT FAIR crowd, saying that PC's had an advantage with speed and accuracy of keyboard and mouse vs clunky controllers that, without auto aim, would allow a PC player to watch an episode of Simpsons whilst controller dudue lined up a head shot...

:D

(I'm kidding I'm kidding)

Most of my friends either play on a PS4 or XBOX, i'd love to be able to join them from the PC. Hoping it's sooner or later.. It'll be a great step forward if you ask me.

Seems the web cam I secretly fitted in your bathroom did pay off in the end!

I know it's been looked into in the past but for this to include Sony I think some of the major franchise holders need to get involved - If Activision. Blizzard, 2k and Bethesda all got on Sony's case I think the situation would change rapidly.

Don't shoot me for no link or anything, but I am convinced I heard on the UK news circuit just a matter of days ago that Sony and Microsoft had reached some sort of an agreement to cross platform in the near future. Sorry T.J. I am all out of VIM, but I have some CIF if that is any use :D

I dont think that deal includes pc...fairly sure thats consoles only but could be wrong. Not everyone wants pc players because...various reasons which arent relevant here and wont go down well with this crowd. Overall though, I love the idea of it but...just dont see sony playing ball while ms can simply bully pc players into it with much less resistance. PC games are a dying breed nowadays...cross platform could be the thing that saves them but they wont see it that way...its that famous "master race" attitude again even if the argument is over 15 years old ^

So now that ED finally covers ALL the major formats what are people's views on cross platform unification?

this isn't a thread on if it's feasible etc etc but more on do we want it as a possible future dream.

I definitely want it. I want to be able to use my PS4 Pro at home and my laptop when out-and-about. If I could use the same account on both platforms, FD and Sony could have my money right now. Hell, it might even persuade me to buy the VR gear.

But I have no interest in playing 2 separate CMDRs, nor starting from scratch.

But I can't see it happening any time soon based on Sony's stance.

As a compromise (and I don't know the technical issues or Sony's view), rather than a shared account, I'd also go for a one-off cloning of the PC account onto the PS4 so that I can play on both platforms without having to restart on PS4, but from that point on, the 2 accounts are separate and unsynced.

I've highlighted a section that I have to disagree with. Now that both Sony and M$ have both produced a console which is a PC software houses that would never of considered it before are now able to expand their sales base and they are doing so. Also bear in mind that you cannot create a game on a console, the PC will always be at the heart of games production so why not sell it on that platform.

For instance, notice how R* are only taking about RDR2 on the PS4 and Xbox1 - PC gamer's again thought R* had left them high and dry... RDR2 for the Pro, 1X and PC will follow within a year. ;)

I think I need to wear my reading glasses more at work, I first read that and thought "A game about R2D2? That's got to run out of interesting things to do pretty quickly!" :D :D

I had to read this about 8 times before I stopped seeing "R2D2" and finally worked out what on Earth you were talking about [wacky]

Edit: Damn it! Beaten to this joke as well! My forum-fu must be off today [wacko]

Hmmm. R2D2 in...hear me out...the Wild West. With guns.

I mean ok, getting him on a horse is going to take some doing, but these are minor details in what could be an absolute nutjob of a game.

Regardless of if you want it or not Sony have said No. Why? Well they have a contract with all the PS owners to protect them while they play games which they are using as an excuse to try and maintain market share as they are well aware that Micro$oft is about to leap ahead of them in terms of hardware ability linked to cross platform gaming with PC players. Although the PS system has more exclusives it's player base is about to be left out in the cold. Expect to see quite a few Xbox/PC games in 12 months time designed with cross play from the ground up.

Rubbish - I played cross play from my PC with PS4 players just a few weeks ago in Star Trek Bridge crew.

Then there are:
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
DC Universe Online
Rocket League
War Thunder
Paragon

There are likely others too. Some PC games has cross play with PS3 too. Elite could easily join that list, no idea why it hasn't - the game really needs it imo.

Remember that he could fly in the prequels (not sure if/how they explained that away in the end since it would have been useful many times in A New Hope and later), so getting onto a horse won't be a problem. The horse would, of course, be BBQ'd and rendered to ash in the process, but he would still, technically, be on the horse ;)

OP: sounds like a good idea on the XB1/Pc cross platform agenda. Dunno how it would work with PS4 politics.

I sincerely hope they do sort something out to cross play with all 3, it would stop my son calling me at work now that he has finished school to ask how he does something after he bought it on PS4 yesterday! Oh, and when he doesn't help his mum out, and I see him online, I could deny him game time by pwning him with my Vette! :D

Yeah, it would be great if I could wing up with my friend who has bought the game for the Ps4 yesterday. When he heard that we can't play together, he almost hadn't bought the game at all ...

I definitely want it. There is no way I'd turn down more players and possibly better instancing. Being in the Xbox crowd, even Open can be empty sometimes.

Pc will always play a part especially when it comes to building the code base and the engine, but it's the upper end of the gaming market with much the top end hardware out of reach to many. A rich mans hobby like owning a sports car...they not gonna stop making high end cars, but the point being they will always be on the minority.

I don't think of gaming will die but it's nowhere near as big as every other platform...time moved on and consoles have closed the gap considerably over the last 5 years alone. The gap will only get narrower and I say this as a pc gamer meself who just happens to love consoles too ^
