Cross-play with PC

Having wrestled with getting an XB1X or a PC, I finally decided on a PC. But regardless which choice I made, I'm now in a "Screw Sony" mindset, at least when it comes to waiting on them to approve cross-play between platforms. So my question is this - is there any scuttlebutt on whether Microsoft might allow cross-play between the two platforms they do own - XBox and PC? I'm assuming Frontier is beholden to Microsoft regarding XBox players instancing with PC players. That said, I'm not sure how Fortnite gets to "break the rules" when it comes to consoles (cross-play, K&M support, etc).

Anyway, I'm just curious. I'll have plenty of people to play with on PC, but having been part of these forums for 2.5 years now, I would enjoy meeting some of you on the XBox.

I have heard rumors and whispers (that may very likely be untrue) that Sony is so draconian that they won't let any game on their platform support cross-play on a different platform. Again, I'm left considering Fortnite... Perhaps F2P games fall outside the scope of some of these rules.

Cross play would not have been an issue if the Titles had been released DAY ONE all at the same time but when you build exclusive for PC Kick starter you build in lots off issues with it being PC only...
When valve added crossplay from PC steam to the the other plaforms including PS4 titles with steam, the steam title was screwed up because they were trying to merge 4 platforms server data into one system and the Friends system of PSN would not merge with the Steam system...

With NFS under ground PS4 and PC crossplay was linked by Existing accounts and ignored the PSN ID...
FF14 PC and PS4 cross play was built from day one to force SE accounts instead of PSN ID So PC, PS3 and PS4 players did not clash with account problems...
Fortnite crossplay works because it also ignores system account and forces the use of epic account from day one

ED will face combining 3 account systems and 3 Purchase store systems in to one servers, accounts lining will be an issue...
when you invite GraphiteGB to the instance, which GraphiteGB are yo inviting, the Xbox 360/one user, the PC steam owner, or the PS4 owner... There all currently a Valid selection as all three platforms have a user...

I'd suspect. because they can't do it on one system (Sony) they won't do it on the other. I mean, (some) players on PS4 are bleating on about not ever having access to the Cobra MkIV every week - imagine what would happen if crossplay happened on XB1 but never made it to PS4...

Sony, being ahead of the Xbox in terms of sales, considers that they don't really need crossplay, since their platform is so much bigger.

Tech-wise, PC is way, way faster than Xbox. I recently transferred over and everything's snappy and quick. Xbox loading times were always a drag. Bear in mind that for cross-play to work, all content approvals and patches would have to be simultaneous, at all times.

Also if Crossplay was possible, I sure would like all my cosmetics, Engineering, Titles, Ranks, and Crew back, that I gave up in the transfer.

Welcome back Ezren! It's been a while!

Welcome back

Anyway. More people to play with would be a good thing, plus we'd have some hotshot PC guys to shoot at.

Nice not having to worry about any cheats over here, though.

Crossplay between consoles would be very nice, but I would NEVER advocate to have it with Pc.

They have all the third party addons and crutches, macros, relative mouse etc etc.

If however FDev was to ban the use of such things in a crossplay galaxy I would be all for it. Also to fix the bloody cheating that appears to be rife on Pc.

It would be interesting to see how the self proclaimed PvP "l33t" on PC cope with manual pips and PIO. Personally I'd think it would be very interesting to see how the pecking order would reshuffle. I bet money that it would be quite a lot.

If I want to explore, trade, mine, pirate with my friends, why should their hardware matter?

Hey you..

Nice to see you again.

It really should not be an issue between XBOX and PC, i play alot of games that are cross play. (sea of thieves, rocket league)

Sony seem to like to try and lock accounts to their consoles, good luck next gen with your sales.

As far as that goes, its fine, any competative elements are hugely weighed in favour of folk on Pc.
At the moment I'm flying like a complete noob. Part of the problem is that I have a simple flight stick rather than a full-blown HOTAS, but I'm also very much muscle-memory programmed for my DS4. I may go back to using it, but IIRC, I'll be losing some functionality that the PS4 has (extra pad-based buttons, gyroscopic head look, etc). If I were to clone myself and give that clone my PS4 and cross-play, he'd kick my butt right now! Though I suppose that will change over time.

It's less of a hardare issue anyway. More of a software issue.

ED isn't exactly a competitive game at its core. And I still use my Elite controller on my PC to control my ship, until I decide to go full HOTAS. But I've been just fine controlling it thus, though those minute movements for fixed weapons are more tricky on the thumbsticks. The major difference is that everything loads so fast and looks sharper.

In terms of competitiveness, the BGS is already linked so PP and factions wouldn't be affected. PvP would be the limit of disparity, which would only be the difference between the input hardware. Is there a HOTAS for Xb1 now?

It's doubtful it's going to happen, unless ED becomes a much, much more popular game. FDEV doesn't have the muscle to keep all the platforms running at the same exact patch in unison.
