Cross-play

Better than on your Slim, that's for sure ! And you know, *cough* 4K *cough*.

*Not to mention that you could get a headstart on Subnautica

So does the Pro but, that wasn't good enough. I should be saying "nooo don't take Duck, he will be picking apart for Xbox One X version before you know it!" ;)

Just joking Duck. You would need a new TV though, you know the one you didn't get to try the Pro on. :)

Cross play would be great from where I'm standing. I play on PC but I know players who use both consoles and I would love to be able to wing up with them. having said that, I do believe that PC players would have an advantage (at least ones who are better pilots than me), so it would not be so good if console players were forced to play on mixed servers.

Microsoft is wierd.
They wont allow mouse on xbox as they want to keep player ability balanced. I read that. Although they allow crossplay with pc users on War Thunder, who use mouse and keyboard. They're senseless sometimes.

I don't see the point in crossplay. Sony are right to hold down their platform the way they are. Whats the point in buying a PS4 to play with Xbox users. I think microsoft would like it as they see player numbers are possibly larger on PS4 and it would populate the xbox experience. So long as microsoft keep pumping out machines like the 1X, they wont have a problem.

It seems to me that Sony is the jerk in the room not allowing cross-play for games like Fortnite, Minecraft, and I'm assuming Elite Dangerous. A recent proclamation from Sony's leadership indicates this won't be changing anytime soon. So my question is, why doesn't Frontier consider at least offering cross-play between XBox and PC? I thought I read somewhere Microsoft wants tighter integration between Windows PC and XBox consoles, so this seems a logical step for Frontier to pursue.

I really like my PS4 and its exclusive titles, but Sony's draconian stance on cross-play (especially considering that they already have those exclusive titles) sure does tempt me to defect over to the "other side". However, there wouldn't be much point if you folks can't even cross-play with PCs. Is there any chance of this coming to Elite Dangerous in the near future?

I'm just curious, and a bit agitated by today's tech headlines..

I'm glad you brought this up because I'm a big proponent of cross play!

A few games already have it between PC, XBOX, Switch, and Mobile, and many more have it between PC and XBOX.

I really do think it's the future for non-pro gamers, and will happen before we all go streaming only ;-)

Now let's talk about Sony. They are the market leader so there's no up side for them, and therefore while I wish they would do it I understand why they don't :-(

But in this case we talk about Elite, and the Xbox (PS4) controller is the next best thing after a hotas..

The only thing we missing are visual enhancements and speech control. They are very nice for immersion, but doesn't give advantages in battle.

I'd like Crossplay for Elite, and i wonder why this isn't a thing already now we have a HOTAS as well.

Yeah, a lot of people say PC players have an unfair advantage, but I use my XBOX Controller on both PC and XBOX, and mostly play co-op anyways.

I would also like to have all three playing together, and to address your other point many cross play games give you the choice to just play with others on the same platform or all platforms.

I read that mouse support isn't here yet because it's a technical issue, and that the first release of mouse support would only support a few popular mice. That aside, many XBOX games already have keyboard support.

On the mouse support issue...I would suggest that Microsoft are waiting to develop a speshul Xbox one-mouse...which will have half the functions and cost 3 times as much as a top of the range Logitech gaming mouse [yesnod]

Yeah. Then it falls apart as soon as the warranty expires.

I hear you guys.

After not hearing anything for a long time I was beginning to think the same way.

You know, the brainiacs at MS were actually planning on releasing a substandard VR headset, instead of just supporting WMR. Ugh.

In any case, I did read a quote about how universal mouse support was going to be difficult - who would of thought that today all Mice don't use a simple shared driver?

That's why they said in the initial release would only support a few models.

Fast forward to June 25th 2018 and the rumor of MS working with Razor seems to be confirmed - I'm hoping that doesn't mean only an official Xbox/Razor mouse is supported :-/

Crossplay is inevitable.

Few years time it will be the norm. This will only help the play anywhere concept aswell.

You will be able to buy the game you want on any store, so when a store like steam has a sale everyone except playstation players will benefit.

This is why Sony are locking down accounts on their system, they dont want their players to purchase things on other stores.

I actually quite like Razer mice.

I've got two.

No, believe me, mouse is objectively superior to anything. Including HOTAS. There is a reason why 90% of PC PvP pilots use a mouse and keyboard.

HOTAS is more immersive, absolutely.

But competitively a mouse is the best choice, as it more accurate by practically a factor of ∞.

Believe me, cross-play would destroy the Xbox/PS4 PvP community.

There is a reason why War Thunder on Xbox sucks.

Mouse and Keyboard is not superior to Hotas or a controller.
And for flight simulation the controller and Hotas is a much better choice than mouse and keyboard.
The only benefits the PC gamers will have against us Xbox gamers are the voice command.
I do hope we gonna have cross-play with the pc gamers and in that way we also could have the same account on both.

No, trust me, it is.

You are wrong on many levels.

Not in my hands it isn't [haha]

I still prefer using the controller for FPS and action games, since muscle memory helps with reaction times and accuracy more than a fancy mouse to my mind...plus I'm still fairly useless with mouse and keyboard after so many years away from it.

I've heard mouse & keyboard is supposedly more accurate etc...not in my experience so far on PC playing adversarial FPS games, I'm still roughly where I was on the leader boards on PC as I was on Xbox...

So either everyone is using a controller, or I'm constantly T-bagging some serious mouse & keyboard players :)

In response to the OP. Because FDEV does not permit crossplay between PC to PC through central regional megaservers. Do you really think it is even close to being within their capacity to do crossplay between platforms. Please be reasonable.

It's a technical thing. You have to look at the top 1% to truly see how controls are superior.

I'd like to mention that despite my belief in mouse being better objectively... I use a joystick, and personally fly better with it, compared to a mouse.

However, I'm nowhere near the top of the skill tree. That is why I repeatedly mention things like the PvP league. In order to see which peripherals are best, you have to look at the best players.

And in ED, the best players fly M&K.

I am better with fixed weapons using a mouse because I can slow it down for granularity and stay on target longer.
Flight assist off is easier for me too because input is immediate on axes and stays set instead of centering like a stick or hat.
