Cross-play

The trouble is any user that considers themselves at a disadvantage will just stop playing, especially during PVP where it will be highlighted most.

Sea of Thieves is a prime example of unbalanced cross play.

pc players flood that game looking for seals to club, if you think elite would be any different you are sorely mistaken.

due to the complaints from Xbox players on SoT a recent patch increased sensitivity options for the consoles, the lower priced hardware and components that consoles employ, to keep the costs down, make this a twitchy nightmare to play just to try and retain some semblance of balance.

maybe they could include the option in PGs so you can still play with your friends on different systems in coop, and avoid having a mass exodus of players from a surge in gankers.

To be honest seal clubbing happens now, if or not cross play makes that worse, who knows? I think for the price of a more populated galaxy, it has to be worth it.

Totally agree with Stormy here. PvP in ED, especially the kind that happens with 'seal clubbing', is 9/10 possession (who has the best weapons, shields, armor) and 1/10 skill. I've only met one "griefer" so far who used skill to win the battle, and because of that it was actually one of my favorite PvP encounters despite the fact that I lost!

I'm a PC player, formerly of the Xbox variety for 10 years or so... also playing PC FPS shooters with an Xbox controller...also taking a degree of sheer delight in seal clubbing the master race with inferior console pleb equipment with a modicum of regularity.

I agree with you but I still think PC players using m&k have an unfair advantage, even against players with using a hotas. If Xbox and PS4 was able to get m&k support for the game then I would probably be more excepting of it. Staying on target with FA off is SO much easier with a mouse than any other know controller option.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't PC players able to set key bindings for specific pips setups?

its not about mnk or control pads, it's that the hardware on a decent PC outstrips the hardware on xbox1x. There's no comparison.

its a bit like Elmer Fudd in a sprint against Bolt.

no one cares if Bolts wearing cruddy trainers, or thinks he'll lose because of it

We can use key binds, yes...although I use Voice Attack for most things from lowering/raising the gear to pip management, targeting/subsystem targeting and changing fire groups...most functions not directly involved with pointing and shooting really. I can also make my own custom commands to suit...like opening EDDB or Inara on my second monitor or sending custom text messages in the Quick comms window in game.

Targeting subsystems is simply a matter of saying "Target the powerplant/FSD/Drives etc..." and voice attack does just that, or saying "Target next hostile and target the powerplant."...that sort of thing helps a bit. I can even ask ASTRA (my voice attack HCS pack ships computer) to ask for docking permission, to plot a route on the galaxy map, scan a system... you get the idea.

Voice attack is especially useful for SLF commands since I can launch/recall and give the fighter orders without pressing a button or looking at a menu screen...

The FA off thing is just a personal preference, mouse and KB or not...I only use it occasionally in combat, same as most Xbox, PS4 or PC players. It's knowing when you need to use it and when you don't thats the trick ;)

Generally, the HOTAS setups some of us use on PC are slightly more accurate than the HOTAS One or the Xbox controller is too...as well as having a shedload more buttons and knobs to play with. I use the Saitek X56, which is pretty good, but I play a few flight sims as well and not just E-D exclusively.

Lol wow! Thanks for proving my point.

2 Cmdrs + different operating systems + opposing opinions + same instance
bet your bottom dollar cross-play combat is a strong possibility

How is this different to?

2 Cmdrs + different operating systems + opposing opinions + same instance bet your bottom dollar cross-play combat is a strong possibility.

Most PvP combat in Elite Dangerous is never on a level playing field anyway, having cross-platform in the equation, won't change that.

I can only imagine how much having all platforms in one combined OPEN would simplify the game for Frontier!

Imagine Squadrons and Fleet Carriers for example, all being unified instead of being split up across numerous "OPENs".

Consider for example if FD wished to allow a Fleet Carrier to be used to make a claim on a mining Hot Spot, so only that Squadron could mine there. Consider that across the current model, and if OPEN was instead unified.

Out of curiosity, does NMS share a common "BGS" (planet names, etc) across platforms? Can I, a PS4 player, visit Vermister's base he built playing XBox?

Who is this vermister dude? Sounds like a really cool guy actually...and handsome into the bargain. Has he built an underground base too? Cos if he/she/it has then Im going underwater next...or even better, an underwater cave. Ha thatll teach that noob how to build a base.

I dont have an opinion on this topic btw because I already know what the benefits and pitfalls of cross play are having played games with pc players and consle players alike...gears of war 4. They werent very good truth be told so if they had some sorta controller benefits with knm, then they were either drunk, stoned or terminally stupid. Decent enough souls but they didnt use mics at all...so we got bored and kicked them out fer being anti social and playing like there was an ¨I¨ in the word ¨team¨

What ho, old chap. In theory YES, but you'd need to be sharing an instance. If ^VS^ uploaded his base via the base computer option I believe this then makes it public.

Someone else maybe a little more clued up than I. This is not unusual. [noob]

To be honest...I'd love the crossplay feature, not only in E-D but across the board. The only sticking point would be in game comms since Xbox users use Xbox live chat almost exclusively whilst on PC we tend to be either Discord or Teamspeak...Discord being the common one these days since it's commonly used and simpler to use than Teamspeak.

E-D in game voice over IP function isn't that great compared to some games, which would be a common alternative outside of Discord or Xbox live chat. The Division or GR Wildlands come to mind here since the VOIP is pretty good for both these titles.

Perhaps FDev could overhaul the VOIP thing as a common function making it a moot point?

I'm with Bongo in the "It's not about combat" view though...since adversarial gameplay just isn't my thing any more..been there, got several T-shirts. But since I have friends both on Xbox and PC, I'd love to have the ability to team up in the multiplayer games I play that are common to both Xbox and PC.

Great question - I'd love to know - for some reason I think each platform has it's own galaxy since they wanted each new platform to be able to discover stuff first - but I'm not sure.

I am sure in Elite I have first discovers on XBOX, PC, and PS4 ALL AS Greylock3491, but I never cross-visited these sites to see if it would cause a any issues in the space-time continuum...?

Maybe when the Codex is out I'll try?
