Cross-play

To be honest...I'd love the crossplay feature, not only in E-D but across the board. The only sticking point would be in game comms since Xbox users use Xbox live chat almost exclusively whilst on PC we tend to be either Discord or Teamspeak...Discord being the common one these days since it's commonly used and simpler to use than Teamspeak.

E-D in game voice over IP function isn't that great compared to some games, which would be a common alternative outside of Discord or Xbox live chat. The Division or GR Wildlands come to mind here since the VOIP is pretty good for both these titles.

Perhaps FDev could overhaul the VOIP thing as a common function making it a moot point?

I'm with Bongo in the "It's not about combat" view though...since adversarial gameplay just isn't my thing any more..been there, got several T-shirts. But since I have friends both on Xbox and PC, I'd love to have the ability to team up in the multiplayer games I play that are common to both Xbox and PC.

add it as a private group feature.
Xbox vettes will be getting wrecked by PC vultures, mark my words.
that kinda unbalancing will be game breaking

Whatever helps ye sleep at night haha...over confidence is a human weakness...might wanna keep an eye on it over the next few years cos if yer wrong, itll hurt like hell when ye fall.

Pff...kids these days eh?

Tis a shame ye guys use discord actually...xbox groups are just so much easier and dont require a laptop running in the background. Thats about the biggest drawback I can think of...how to make the anti social sociable while retaining that oh so sweet rivalry.

Someone will crack it eventually and then the floodgates will open and nothing will stop the avalanche that will follow. Ye would have better luck standing on the beach and ordering the tide not to come in. Thats cos I played pc only fer 20 years before I so much as looked at a console, and that was ten years ago...which is why I laugh a little inside when I see pc players who think its still the good old days when actually, the good old days are exactly that...old.

The times they are a changing ^

People use Discord on their phones. Everybody's got a phone.

Indeed, totally agree. If people don't like the idea of cross play there would always be solo and private groups anyway, Still FDev may never implement it even if they could so it might all be mute.

not much helps me sleep buddy.

its not just kids though, everyone just wants an easy advantage over their opponent.

never used discord, only play on Xbox and switch between solo, pg and occasionally open and I'm always in a party, hate using my phone for anything.

got my speccy in 86 and been consoles ever since.

times have been a changing even before Dylan wrote a blues riff in the 60s about it.

none of that changes that a £2K PC beats a £500 console in every department every day of the week, and is a massive advantage in cross-play PVP.

I could highly recommend several things that guarantees a dreamless deep sleep but bongo and stormy wouldnt be too happy about it. Oh I do agree that a 2k rig will beat consoles in every department except one...the rarity of them. While a few lucky folks have them, they are by no means a significant portion of the gaming community...tis like cars on the road. How many folks drive rolls royce and bentleys to work or asdas? A few no doubt...but only a very few commonly known as those with more money than sense.

And much like driving where I dont use a phone when Im doing it, I despise using my phone when gaming. Why would I start when xbl already does a better job with less hassle? I use the example of laptop cos I dont use my phone when gaming...like ever. Most the time, I switch it to silent so I wont be disturbed by it. And then theres the sound itself...how does one use an external non xbl chat outlet and listen to the game through headphones at the same time?

Really, why should console players bend over to accomodate pc players? Wouldnt mind doing it, but there has to be some give and take on both sides and there are zero advantages to using discord over the existing xbl function, especially if ye play the game using headphones.

If ye just text chat while playing the game, then good luck with that. In games like ED, its a viable option but on a great many other games, its laughable at best ^

Preachin to the choir, I don't touch prescribed meds unless I don't have a choice.

ironically, lost somewhere in the English/Irish translation, I think we are arguing a similar point.

to be fair to PCs as well, you can actually build a decent (read:better than a console) PC for little over £500, but there will always be someone with more £££ to spend so the playing field is designated by how much money you have.

with consoles, and it's always been one of the reasons I've stayed on an inferior system, the playing field is more balanced by the time you spend on each game, because all the hardware components are virtually the same across the board.

the time I've spent in elite means, if I wanted, I could easily go toe to toe with almost any cmdr in PVP and certainly give as good as I got. Because I've spent years engineering, testing, unlocking pp weapons and re-engineering etc

if some bypasses all the time and effort spent to get to this point by staying in a smaller ship, virtually invulnerable through, sharper controls, voice commands, less input delay and less bugs, glitches and lag.

that sounds very similar to the sea of thieves route, an unbalanced broken mess.

DW2 is coming up. Potentially the largest player-organised event in the history of Elite. Not allowing us to fly together, cross-platform, because some players on console might choose to get blown up by some PC players back in the bubble, is nonsensical.

Yep. Just 'cos some bitter PS4 player might decide to go after every Cobra MkIV...:D

wouldnt that be eliminated if cross play was implemented in PGs?

for the record, I've not been destroyed by a player since I tried to collect a Cmdrs bounty by interdicting his clipper, in my woefully outmatched eagle lol but it was my very first week all those years ago.

Aye...but you're remembering PC gaming as it used to be, not as it is now...the social aspect isn't that far removed from gaming on an Xbox...minus the sofa and fighting with the wife/kids for control of the TV remote :p

A few of us that switched to PC from Xbox at the time same used Xbox live chat until our subs ran out...mostly found it was a memory hog along with all the other Xbox live functions we still have access to through Win 10. Most of the PC crowd use a headset/mic for gaming these days, same as Xbox folks...since we all like the same social aspect of playing games as we're shooting each other in the face or T-bagging n00bs in Battlefield.

With Discord, we can all chat and send messages in game no matter which platform we're on....is that maybe the avalanche yer on about? If so...it's already happened whilst you were away. ;)

We all stopped using the Xbox live function in the main because the Xbox DVR vid application and Xbox live functions hogged over 500 meg of system memory on it's own, killed the hard drive which caused serious lag in games due to jerko-vision... a common enough issue on the Xbox with games having decent FPS but still having micro pauses due to excessive hard drive access by Xbox DVR even when idle. The difference is we can see how hoggy it is with system resources even when idle on PC by simply looking at the Windows task manager. It's a system killer, even on high end gaming rigs like mine...

The other reason we stopped using the Xbox live functions is that there were better universal options...like Discord.

We tried Team speak but found it over complicated and quite cliquey, tried Steam Chat too which was better but was only of any use if everyone in the game had a Steam account...there are a few players on PC that wouldn't touch Steam of course...the same ones that insist on faffing about with Linux strangely enough, but they're usually single player aficionados in the first place with no room for social gaming.

We all settled on Discord since it's free, works flawlessly with cracking voice comms and has a neat app complete with game launcher much the same as the Steam app that runs in the background instead of the web browser based thing. We tend to use it like Xbox live chat with added functionality and benefits...post pics and web links, send messages, phone service rather than BT or mobile... we can also voice chat live with our Xbox mates which breaks down platform barriers. Like on Xbox, game sound and chat comes direct through the headset with adjustable volume bias to taste.

Since most of the mates I played games with for years on Xbox now have PC's...and we are mates in real life as well as opposed to just anonymous internet avatars who play the same games... we universally despise Facebook, it's cheaper than a call and we don't have to faff about with phones when we're playing games. Saying that, even when the PC isn't on, we're all still connected via the Discord app on phone.

Even What's App, which we all used on the phones...it's got a PC app too [yesnod]

Ill tell ye what m8...when most of my m8s are using discord, then it gets a second look...but currently none of them use it. Not that I know off anyway. I have friends from my pc days who are on my facebook and we still chitter away to each other through that, though just the odd hiya now and then...none of them play elite, not anymore anyway so as far as ED is concerned, its a lost cause on me. Aint played in months anyway nor will I if the rumours are true but however, different topic entirely.

Ive not experienced any issues on the xbl chat tool...not on 360, not on the oneS and not on the oneX. If there have been issues, they were so minor that I simply never noticed them...Ill ask around later to see if anyone else has.

So faffing around on a phone while Im playing a game to use a chat tool on which I dont know a single soul? Ye see where this is going yes? The one time I did use discord on ED, the result ended up in me blocking several players...something I dont do lightly and reserve only fer the most toxic of people. So first impressions arent exactly what one would describe as inspiring.

But however...these are subjective points of view based on personal experience so the overall bigger picture cant be judged. Im happy enough to wait and see...if the guys I know and play with move to discord then chances are I would too...if they dont then neither will I as I have no reason to. Cross play might change that but until it does exist, its a moot point anyway ^

I joined Discord for a couple of expeditions on PS4. It was good for organizing "photo ops", but I actually found a lot of the chatter mundane and immersion-breaking (religion, politics, sports, lonely guy in basement, BREXIT, blah blah blah) - nothing to do with the game itself.

I have a wireless keyboard, so text comms via the ship's interface is more than enough for me. I play ED to fly spaceships and explore the Galaxy, not to be part of Facebook 3304 :p

Ah good old brexit...ye I can very much relate to this...its boring now just get on with it sorta attitude. Politics...meh whatever...belongs in the real world and I play games to escape the real world, not bring it with me.

I remember being told not to swear and thought, this isnt gonna last long...I was right and it lasted all of 20 minutes before I got bored listening to them and havent so much as thought twice about it since...until this thread came up that is.

I chitter away to meself a lot as well as my daughter as she plugs away on the ps4 cos she no longer uses a mic...when she does, they find out shes a girl and the conversation goes south fast cos guys her age have very little finesse and even less tact, and because shes extremely good at what she does...well boys dont like being beaten by girls and Ive had to intervene once and involve the police it got so bad.

When I use lobbies, Ill normally only use them with players I know otherwise the chatpad...which is also technically a wireless keyboard when ye think about it...means I dont have to give up my very comfy sofa. Because Im disabled, sitting at a desk like an office worker just aint gonna happen...fer me its the sofa or bust.

Anyway...this is all off topic and is meaningless in the greater context so...Ill go back into silent running fer a bit and leave ye guys to it ^

Yes crossplay should be on the agenda. There are many many different methods of implementing this.

Why do people get stuck on the PC mouse thing.... Like you are all far to superior? From talk it sounds like you are all going to kill all xbone players ... Huh... Such negativity. The negative waves.

Hey i get it. The toys and immersion on PC is amazing but .. Seriously i like playing on the xbox on the lounge while kids are asleep running my missions.. ....Even if i cant afford full vr on a massive grunt pc machine, voice activated command chair multiple screens, touch pad controls and a 1000 buck hotas wirh coffee machine.

Sure i am jealous as hell i cant and will never have that but does mean i should be excluded from the environment which would work on both ..

I would live to team up with 3 mates on pc...

You want this community to grow and make more connections not die out or become narky.

Xbox players in a pc environment would
1. Be instantly killed by all other players when the appear
2. Be killed instantly cause the environment is harder
3. Be killed by all npcs and bases cause they will bash into the letter box and if they arent blasted they will starve to death in the loneliness of space.
4. Be unable to run the game cause you need Super HD eyeballed injected vision and tpuch implants under your skinn

Its the old you young kids on mobile devices vs back in myday style arguements.

Cross play should be firmly on the board for development in the games current state.

Let elite lead. Not fall.

Elite Dangerous is about Community and the great fun.

You would think in a 1 to 1 size universe there would be room for everyone.

... Let the negativity begin....
