I think that in any other game crossplay would not be so difficult to implement (even now there are games that have it working), but since its Frontier we're talking about I can see some problems. Then again not bad enough problems that a patch, or two, or three wont fix... Anyway, good points about would crossplay enable multicrew etc. between different platforms. Maybe it can be improved overtime, if at first its just so we can see and interact with each other in the most basic ways.

Apparently crossplay on fortnite was in the work way before crossplay was begining to gain traction - it happened by "accident" then the hole was plugged by Sony.
it was also one of the few games that was on the crossplay closed beta

I already can play Jenny during the weekends Duck during the week. I didn't sell my PS4. If I can "see" PS4 players on my PC, then I'll be able to see MY PS4 CMDR on my PC. Of course that raises the question as to what "see" will actually mean. Will cross-platform multicrew be supported, for example? That's what I'll need to do what I want.

I think all platforms and the game experience in general will benefit hugely from cross play. PvP would be the only area for concern.

The fact that most development effort at FDev is being spent on the 2020 update suggests to me that it's unlikely to arrive before then, unfortunately.

Having said that, base PS4 frame rates when there are more than a few CMDR's in the same instance are atrocious at the moment... so be careful what you wish for..?!

I was thinking about this. The game doesn’t allow more than one squadron to have the same name, what happens to cross-platform groups? Are they merged? Do duplicates have their names changed? For example we have a squadron on each platform, all are called Wolves of Jonai. The PC squadron has reached its maximum capacity so a merger is not an option.

I don’t see cross play happening.

Merging the leaderboards seem like a bad idea also, it's already hard enough to get top 3 unless your in a large group like Pilot syndicate. As a 8 player squadron we managed to get 2nd but that was a one off.

From past titles... console users are forced to have name and clans name changed changed...
They had a platform ID forced at the front and there profile assets moved to that account... thats how it was done...

Because there were Less console users its less work to modify the console account IDs..

Paragon from epic games was allready cross platform long before fortnite With PC and PS4 players and Epic games Forced users to use an epic account long before fortnite.. Epic forced users to register there epic names which can be displayed on other Platforms if the epic name was allreeady taken you had to change your Epic name to somethin else...

Combining the 3 users bases is still like to much work for this specific company... because they have the systems running independant from day one...
Other developers Forced peop;e to create a Server dependant user name...

I would love to have cross-play, mainly so that I could multicrew my PS4 CMDRs with my PC CMDR. This empty seat beside me is depressing!

It would also allow me to more easily share all my PS4 bookmarks with my PC CMDR.

i dont think so. For me the definition about Crossplay should be changed. Crossplay should not be any more defined as Xbox / PS / PC ... it should be Konsole / PC. So i wish Konsoles play together.

I’d like it, more commanders to see and join in with or against.

There’s a thread in Dangerous Discussion comparing screenies of asteroids in a mining ring between Xbox and PC, there’s undoubtedly less on the Xbox. Should be the same for both PS4’s, so wouldn’t this cause an instancing issue for cross play?

PC Commander ###### “he just flew right through that asteroid, did you see that! How did he do that, get me that ship...”

Fleet Carriers will be persistent between game modes, platforms, etc.

The BGS is persistent between game modes, platforms etc.

As it stands, are Commanders the only thing that is not persistent between game modes and platforms?

Are we seeing any new cross-play being introduced to other titles in recent months? I still love my PS4, as does my wife, so I remain interested in this feature, be it for ED or other games both my wife and I may play.

FWIW, I use my PS4 regularly despite now owning a powerful laptop, especially since PS+ has been offering so many quality free games this year. I also prefer PS4 for many F2P games like Fortnite due to my aversion to anti-cheat software being installed on my laptop. If the price is right, I'll likely get the PS5 someday. Consoles are still a very good platform for many types of games, and don't let them "master racers" tell you otherwise

That's a problem with ED, not my PS4. ED on PC does look and feel WAY better than it does on PS4. Oh, and there's VR! But games like Overwatch look about the same, and other games like RDR2 and SWBF2 look amazing enough on PS4 that I don't feel compelled to buy them again on PC (especially considering how buggy RDR2 is reported to be on PC). Anything made for console first seems to do best on console, where many games made for PC first (like Elite Dangerous) don't fair as well on console, though there are some exceptions.

The decision to get a better PC (one that could also play games) was not just for an improved ED, but part of a "bigger picture" of all the things I use PC for. This is why I got a laptop instead of a dedicated gaming box. I still prefer a console when it comes to "boxes that only play games".

BTW, I still fly with a DS4 controller even though I'm on PC with VR. Granted, I also use the keyboard, but I'm actually better with a controller than a flight stick after all these years of training my thumbs with ninja skills.
