Alright so I'll let you in on a little bit of a secret build that most of the SDC guys fly that should take you a pretty long ways:You're gonna want to buy a chicken nugget hull, and equip that with 4xmedium nuggets and 1xhuge nuggets. Roll 2x of the medium nuggets with g1 overcharged crispiness and the other 2x medium nuggets with g5 long-range dipping sauce. For the cl 4 nugget make sure that you have g5 nugget efficiency, cuz the flavor on that one is gonna drain your dipping sauce REALLY quickly if you don't have that mod. For specials, just go ahead and get polynesian, bbq, or ketchup in any combination you choose--should work just fine. Ok so now that you've got the nuggetpoints out of the way, you're going to want to prioritize the nugthrusters. You are ONLY going to want to roll the 10sec rule dirty nugs--g5 of course--cuz this will give you the agility to keep your ship from taking too many nugshots. Lastly, you want to grab a nuggetshield, preferably a g5 tempura batter since that will allow you to regain your fry more quickly, as opposed to a heavier beer batter (which will also tend to weigh down your nugget).

What do you use for dunking? Barbecue, or Honey Mustard?

You can outfly someone going reverse, specually in a fas, they cant boost backwards.
Here is a canon fdl 13th pilot going in reverse:

https://youtu.be/thv3VrsEtfo

At least have the decency to use fixed :O - you meet a top pilot (ie John Raanes et al) who controls the range & you are f.. err in trouble with frags! There is a huge difference between experienced, good pilots & the best in the game.

1v1 doesn't get much better than this - pity JR hit the roids though! Mr Raanes has taught me a lesson 3 times (admittedly, over a year ago when I used to PvP more often).

...hmmmm, he's probably even better now! :D

I've decided I'm going FAS to start with, completely inspired by that video if I'm honest. I can do pip management, but if there's a viable build that lets you focus on fighting instead, that's all the better! I'm also already used to the FA off boosting fighting style of the FAS, and using railguns on it, plus it's a lot cheaper to build, and a lot cheaper to be killed in. No brainer really.

So I just finished speccing one out at Coriolis. 4k armor exactly with coriolis base 'best' G5 heavy duty mods. 56% all armor resists (8900 effective armor) with 84% reinforcement to all modules except hardpoints, and an armored power plant on top of that. I'll be starting materials collecting tonight for the engineering.

There is no point in fixed frags, chaff doesnt work from close range, and the the damage penalty is stabilized by more hit on target.

Long range rails are my only problem, which is good otherwise frags would be OP.

Tell me how many cmdrs actually fly like John? We can count them on one hand.

Using gimbals on a FAS is pointless... the gimbal arc is gimped when trying to get all weapons to fire unless you are 100% dead center, any decent pilot will just boost above you and sit there while only 1 frag can hit, not only that you are not nearly fast enough to make those frag worth it. Frags only work well on a clipper due to its speed.

Also "There is no point in fixed frags, damage penalty is stabilized by more hit on target." is complete rubish, the FAS has one of the best turning rates... no reason not to use fixed frags given the extra damage & better fire arc. Pacifier comes to mind.

tell that to algomattic (fourm name) , his bulid is horrifyingly bad and he swears by it saying "its the meta"

Frags ARE very meta right now since they are a direct counter to HD stackers, like those in his videos, but its also worth pointing out that his frags are not very good at all, wrong mod for starters and its gimbal on a FAS of all ships, the players he was fighting are also known for being bad since they just sit there and take it as shown in the videos... not only do they sit there he almost gets killed!

Yes. I noticed in another thread that @ALGOMATIC started, that some PvP-ers criticised him for using gimballed frags, on the basis that if you're within 500m you should be able to hit with fixed (or indeed, at any range).

I agree with Mr Algomatic. Although I was not by any means the first to use an all frag loadout, I think I made some contribution to popularising the same a long time ago with (for any who remember it) my quite well-received 'Fraggy McFragface' series.

The reason I used 4 x gimbals on that FAS was that against an evasive opponent most firing opportunities are taken off-line and (obviously) at close range, hence that the firing angle can be very far from the ship's direction of travel. The relative movement of the target at close range is very great. The modest reduction in gimballed damage is more than made up for by the arc of fire and tracking advantage.

Example: I boost towards FdL. FdL boosts forwards and laterally (hence, quartering diagonally) across nose of my ship. More of the triple-burst of the gimballed frags will hit the FdL than fixed would in this situation, irrespective of piloting ability, because neither with FA-off nor FA-on can a pilot move the ship itself through the same arc as the gimbals, at the same speed.

(I do accept that you need to roll a lot to get the most out of the lower frags, though. I also used to try to get above my opponent using vertical thrust at a time when many PvP-ers didn't use thrusters half as much as now.)

However, all of that said, the reason I wouldn't dream of running an all-frag loadout nowadays is that the skill of the PvP player base is so much higher than in early 2015. There are simply too many pilots capable of avoiding all or almost all of the damage of frags. I always try to remember what Derath maintained, when he was ED's No.1 PvP-er back in the really early days: "Outfit to fight the best, not the worst, and you'll beat the worst anyway."

I probably have enough footage to put up a vid called, "Why frag-ramming doesn't work", simply showing me taking next to no damage from completely helpless frag-rammers. And I'm usually travelling forwards and sideways, not backwards. In fact, I'll add it to my 'ED to do' list...

EDIT:

Pacifier comes to mind.

^^Yeah.

I agree with all the criticism here. Never did I say my build is the Meta of all, I just pointed it as an option. For the OP who just gets into PVP, I believe he would find it hard to use the SDC full FAO fliyng and build of rails and PA, its an advanced build and a beginner will have a hard time. Mine is much easier and it will give some fun fights, obviously not as effective.

As for gimbals vs fixed, Passifiers should be fixed, but I found the hit rate for gimbal frags is better at least for me (I put fixed initially and found it horrible, prob have to git gud with fixed).

As for mods, I use 3 incendiary and 1 corrosive, my issues are mostly with shields as Harry said and those produce 100% thermal damage. When it comes to hull tanks, I try to ram as much as they allow me, hence the FA ON.

While the 13th guys are not SDC, they still give a challenge and a good fight. Again just an opinion from my side.

Lets fight and see, easy to talk biowaste on the forum.
Send me frq.

At the risk of making an obvious point, bear in mind that although incendiary will usually help against a 'Big 3' with a reinforced shield + full heavy duty booster set up (which lacks thermal resist) it's a straight downgrade against a typical shielded or shieldless medium PvP ship, which will have similar or higher resistance to thermal than kinetic. Against those mediums, you're basically losing 5% of DPS and making your ship run hotter, in return for doing the same or less damage, lol...

But the big ships thing brings me to a question for Cmdr Harry Potter, if I may:

HP, we all know how dangerous frags (whether fixed, or gimballed!) are to Anacondas and Corvettes, because they are so slow, but as one of the game's most experienced PvP Cutter pilots, how have you found that the Cutter copes with frag attacks...?

Incendiary costs 5% damage but there's the opportunity cost which is not fitting screening shell or drag munitions. IMO the opportunity cost (especially incendiary over SS) costs a lot more than 5% against a shield that has equal thermal/kinetic resistance. My 2 cents.
