Curse you Python! Stop being so damn useful!

I know it's popular and of course useful via missions etc. I have owned one but honestly I cannot warm to it I'd even go so far as to say I hate the Python. I used it for everything from Conflict zones to exploration and honestly my impression is meh!. Of course I'm aware that I'm probably the only one that thinks this lol.

I love my Python. :D

I used to have two, but one was a failed experimental exploration Python. I sold it for an exploration Anaconda instead.

But my main PvE Python is a pretty awesome beast. 450m/s and handles like a bat out of hell.
She's the main ship I use for missions, because she's armed enough to deal with any assassination mission, including when 2 Deadly Corvette spawned for some reason, and can land anywhere, and isn't too hard to find a flat spot on a surface either.

I sort of agree with you.

The Python is sort of like the "Transit Van" of the ED universe.

Most people would prefer to drive a Ferrari, or a Hummer, or a Beetle or an Imprezza, or a 1960's Dodge Charger even if they know the Transit Van is going to be the more sensible, reliable and flexible choice.

Whenever I'm going to do something specific (such as, say, unlocking a new engineer), I always take my Python cos I know it'll be capable of anything that task entails.
It can haul passengers & cargo, it can land at any station/outpost and it's fairly easy to land on uneven planet surfaces, it can deploy an SRV, it can scoop cargo and it can hold it's own in a fight.
I can't wait to get that task finished, though, so I can get back to flying a DBX, or a Vulture, or a Keelback, or a Corvette, or an iCourier, or.....

THANK YOU. I feel crazy for being Combat Elite but flying the Dolphin as much as my Anaconda lol. It's like the Porsche 911 of ships. Gorgeous, responsive, fast, nimble... I can't get enough of the damned thing.

You're quite welcome! I spend so much time in mine it's not funny.

And this was never meant to become the Orca vs. Anaconda thread, but since it's been leaning that way...

I've blown up my share of Anacondas with an Orca, and they've always been tough fights - fights I'd much rather avoid.
I've also blown up my share+ of things with an Anaconda, and they're much easier fights. Hands down, the Anaconda packs more firepower.
But even with G5 Dirty Drives, the Orca can outmaneuver it. This holds true for all Saud Kruger ships - their maneuverability is exceptional, and they're fast - easily on par with most Gutamaya ships, though Gutamaya has a hands-down advantage when it comes to raw shield strength.

That's Elite: Balance for you - Fast ship, not so much shield or hull. Slow ship, better shields, thicker hull.

Which really means, it comes down to play-style - do YOU play better with a lumbering hulk of a ship bristling with weapons, or something sleek and deft, with fewer weapons and rely more on finesse? To this, there's no right or wrong answer. Which is why there is ultimately no "best ship".

Let's rewind time a bit, back to the arcade days of Street Fighter. We had quite a selection of characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses - fast, nimble, barely dressed Chun Li, completely average and basically identical Ken and Ryu, massive and slow E.Honda and Zangief, and the impossibly slow Dhalsim with incredible range. Every player had their favorite, and if you were good, you'd dominate by taking advantage of your advantages - be it bouncing everywhere as Chun Li, keeping opponents at bay as Dhalsim, or luring them in and overpowering them as Honda or Zangief, or even just plain old perfectly averaging them to death as Ken or Ryu - personally I was Guile fan - a little slower, some very tricky maneuvers to pull off, and capable of pulling anyone out of the air.

The same holds true, even more true, here - I bounty hunt in a Beluga, people laugh. I open fire, they take selfies with me. Would I suggest everyone jump in a War-Whale and have at it? Not unless I was getting a kick-back from the insurance company - but I'd certainly recommend trying it, because you just might like it. Or you might hate it, but at least then you'd know. I own and have flown every available ship, some I have multiples of just to try different things with and see and feel what their strengths and weaknesses are FOR ME.

No not at all. That's why I keep selling the darn thing.
Of course, for almost all in-game tasks, you soon realize why you bought it in the first place. Cuz it's efficient at everything.

Try to stick with my beloved T-6 and just can't do it. And, as the Python carries the same cargo load as the T7 (and fits on medium pads!), I feel silly flying that.
Curse you Python. And curse my own weakness.

Guess I still have the T9 for my Lakon fix. But of course I suffer a bit from "Conda Confliction" there too but at least I like the Anaconda!

You mean one of these.....?

The USS Flytrap

I do have a Python built in Coriolis just in case I decide I need to resurrect my old ship, the Bruce Willis(pre-horizons from my xbox CMDR, his sacrifice was for the faster progress of my pc CMDR may he rest in peace), and how I'd set it up with the current content available

Nope. I used to fly a fighting Python, but decided that even flying FAOFF most of the time it simply can't handle the ship I consider to be its nemesis--the Clipper. It also has troubles with one of the more agile Fed mediums. If I'm smuggling goods, or doing missions (other than assassination / wetwork / combat ones) I really shouldn't be fighting at all--it's a waste of time, and after losing two of them in fights I should have avoided from the get-go, I decided that the Python would be decked out for maximum jump range and cargo capacity, and all fighting would be left to the rest of the bruisers in my lineup (including a Cutter, Anaconda, Vulture, FDL, Viper, and Clipper).

I never actually owned one back when they were agile beasts, and if they were as agile as a Clipper they'd be terrific fighters.

I really wish there were another mid-sized pad ship to rival the Python just for the sake of variety. I doubt variety will be enough to get something in game though. Until then I'll find myself back in my Python again for one reason or another.

Agreed The Python is a good ship and alot of people love it. But one reason for this is that its not really matched except maybe by the Imperial Clipper.
Fdev need to fleshout the ships still in terms of variety and selection.

Look, it's simple:

The Python is totally OP, even after "the great nerf" and everyone but everyone not only needs but must run one.

Consider a Python to be a categorical imperative.

If you're talking about PvE, you're doing something wrong.

If you're talking about PvP, then fair enough.

Yea, I agree with this. Took out a Elite conda last night in a haz res with my 'poor handling' Python. Before that it was a FDL. Clippers and Fed mediums I eat for breakfast. :)

Fighting in a fast, maneuverable ship is easy. Doing the same in a less maneuverable ship takes a bit of learning/skill.

I just switched to my Conda last night because I never use it, but I know it's only a matter of time before I see a mission I can't do and wish I had my Python instead.

I saved up for a couple months to have enough to buy an Anaconda and upgrade it. Once I got the upgrades done and all the engineering done I ran a few missions to make some of my cash back. but now its parked and I'm back in the Python. I don't do a lot of combat in it though. I pretty much stick to my FAS for combat.

Finally found one thing the Python is bad at - scooping cargo containers.
Always did it before in smaller, more manuverable, ships.
Actually just destroyed a mission target after missing it on 4 tries. That ain't never happened before.

That's because the cargo hatch is so far back, it's happened to me more times than I care to remember!

Destroyed everything in High CZ with my Python (solo mode).
Grade 5 thrusters and PD, no modification on shield, armour or hull (2 HRP unmodded).
Love it. All of them.

Pro tip (not mine): nose slightly up - easy scooping with Python
