Custom billboard resources

So Nat Geo Wild on YouTube has these really amazing 3-4 minute clips called 101 Facts and they have them on a bunch of animals. They are ideal for wee short info videos for the habitats. WWE has great videos called 10 Fun Facts.

They are both quite brilliant. Both pages have loads of great little shorter clips, including some on biomes which are definitely worth looking at.

There's another site called Bioexpidition which might, for some folk, be even better suited to the purpose; whilst the Nat Geo and WWE clips have voice audio, the Bioexpidition site has information clips which just have music and some facts about the animals. As habitat information boards these would be superb.

Obviously if you're downloading them they download as MP4.

But there's a neat little program called VideoProc which converts them quickly into the right format. Now, the free version will only convert a clip of less than 5 minutes ... but for our purposes that's absolutely spot on and perfect for the job.

So I have now a good selection of videoboards ... I will list them as I do the conversations.

So far I have ten Facts 101 boards from NatGeo Wild ...

They are on:

Cheetahs
Elephants
Giant Pandas
Giraffes
Koalas
Lions
Polar Bears
Snow Leopards
Tigers
Wolves

I am currently converting 11 WWF Top Facts videos.

They are on:

Giant Pandas
Jaguars
Lions
Mountain Gorillas
Oraguntans
Pangolins
Penguins
Polar Bears
Rhinos
Snow Leopards
Tigers

As you can see, there's quite a bit of cross-over. But there's more ... I have 26 videos from Bioexpidition to do ... and a lot of the animals in there aren't covered by the other vidoes. These are mostly information videos, with no voice over audio, so they are great for displays and habitats where you just want visual information.

The best is yet to come though ... there is a YouTube channel which has a lot of similar vidoes called Planet Fauna ... I have 72 of those waiting to convert and they cover so many different species that there are even plenty for the exhibits.

All of these are in the big board format; 1824x1024 ...

Obviously I will also convert to smaller formats.

Now, if I can find a way to get these uploaded onto somewhere, I would be happy to share the details for anyone who wants them. I am sure Nat Geo Wild and WWF would be fine with it, as they are purely educational videos. Might have to explore the situation with the other guys though, but at the moment these are purely for personal use although, as I say, I am happy to share them with the community if I'm able to find a hosting site.

The real problem is my crappy internet connection. I'll find a way around that if need be.

I'd totally love to have those videos, if you could upload them to somewhere it would be awesome

What would make those videos very cool is if you get a silent video, put your own music, and then say gibberish, Planet-language

What I've spent much of my afternoon on (I am a blogger, I can get away with this stuff!) is downloading videos and infographics.

Unfortunately, on the infographic front there is not always a lot out there.

And yet I know where there are a ton of infographics ... if we only had the ability to use them.

They are in the in-game Zoopedia.

So I have a question for the mods and the developers ... is there any chance that someone could put the Zoopedia stuff online for us exactly as it appears in the game?

Basically I figure we need three sections; General Information, Natural Habitat and Species data.

I will have a go at making infographics using these as basic copy, cut and pastes ... but if the resources were readily available to all of us we could create some really amazing information boards quite easily.

Maybe use screen capture to get them directly from the zoopedia?... would be a good resource for someone to add to this thread!

I did last year a fanart about Planet Zoo https://www.artstation.com/artwork/zAZxe6
Maybe with this new awesome feature some of you would be interested to put it on your parks ! Can’t wait the update and the DLC to test all these new exciting features :D !!

GIMP is a free photoshop-alike program that allows for pretty complicated manipulation of images (layering, color changes, filters, etc). It's complicated so there's a bit of a learning curve but there's plenty of info on the 'net about it.

Now these didn't all turn out the way I wanted ... there are some of these where the writing goes off the page and you have to scroll to read it so I made the cuts where I thought I could get away with it. Only the most eagle-eyed viewer of your zoos would spot the mistake and none of the "customers" is going to complain :)

Nice and simple. Just the front picture and a little bit of biographical info and some breeding stuff.

I'm really looking forward to creating very detailed and realistic reptile and amphibian houses, pavilions and stand alone exhibitions. The billboard feature has finally made it possible. So many possibilities here, my only wish now is that we had many more exhibit species in game.
