Game Discussions Cyberpunk 2077 - official gameplay

Won't launch for me. Get an unhandled exception.

Working through potential fixes, the usual, verify game files, updated graphics driver, but no luck so far.

Btw: the whole prologue thing was massively overhyped and is pretty much nothing. You get to pick one of three backgrounds, then you get a little vid that basically says:"yeah, whatever the heck you were, now you are who we want you to be." Then you end up in the same place no matter what you picked or did. The whole thing takes about 20 minutes.

So if you started and were concerned you may have picked the wrong background/start: just ignore and carry on. I am sure there will be a bunch of 'skip part of a quest with bonus dialogue option' but it really isn't a 'so much replayability' thing as it was presented to be earlier.

I'm liking the starter gun to be like the pistol in Doom. So, not very powerful, but will (eventually) get the job done. I'm sure there will be more powerful weapons later in the game, and of course mods will happen whether they're officially supported or not...
I don't actually mind it in Doom, you are shooting monsters from hell, who knows how many bullets that takes? :D

It's when the enemies are people that I find it annoying

I'll reserve judgement on that till I'm further in, some of the previews seemed to be saying it would affect the game pretty much all the way through

DEP or ASLR settings at something other than default?

Demons are people too!

Though, even on humans, you have to hit something pretty important if you want them to stop for actual physiological reasons.

Combat in CP seems to be better than Fallout, so that is something

I was going to say that Fallout 4's combat is not that bad, but then I remembered I always use the "War Never Changes" mod, that along with a huge list of improvements, it completely removes all the bullet sponginess from both the NPCs and the player, making combat encounters much more exhilarating at all levels and keeps all weapons useful throughout the game. The FO4 vanilla combat was indeed atrocious, and at higher levels the firefights were just inventory management contests.

If you ever feel up to a new F4 playthrough, give this a try, IMO it dramatically improves the experience: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/19642

Thing is that even if that were true, it is just the usual 'background option' you have in many, many RPGs. My corpo life took all of four minutes.

Does machinegunning someone in the head from ten feet distance count? :p

I also felt combat in FO often bullet spongy. Unless you specced out in weapons at the downside of less diversity. Had to buff out dmg or the sponge would be significant. Especially on headshots. Really unfun to pump magazines into enemy heads without much effect.

If I remember correctly, (from the background blurb) the Doom 3 pistol is chambered with 12.7 or something ridiculous like that.

I was thinking of the original Doom. That said, a .50 AE (12.7mm) is only about half the energy of a 7.62 NATO. Wouldn't want to be shot with either, of course.

Anyway, it seems that the difficulty setting in Cyberpunk is primarily 'spongyness', so turning that down might help without harming the experience too much in other ways.

I think I'll start again on Medium difficulty. I like hard combat when it's fun, but if it's a bit weak I'd rather just get through it. I played Witcher 3 on easy because I thought the combat was a bit pants

Games seem to be pretty hit or miss with how they deal with difficulty settings. The ones where enemy health and numbers are just inflated are pretty useless to me.

In shooters I'll usually use whatever setting results in a reasonable and similar durability for my character and similar opponents. Sometimes this is "normal", but in games like Deus Ex and Crysis it was the highest difficulty.

I just finished installing Cyberpunk 2077 (trying before I buy with my brother's license) so I'll do a quick comparison before I attempt a full playthrough...if I like it enough to do a full playthrough.

Nope. Just checked. Also checked my event log, nothing suspicious there.

The next thing I'd try after that is start unplugging any USB devices you're not actively using to play the game.

Sometimes they have old or non-existent drivers (you can look in Device Manager to see) which can break unrelated things bizarrely.

Also try reinstalling VC2012 runtime.
