Newcomer / Intro CZ's no fun for average lone player since 2.1

what have you been flying yesterday? was it a faster ship?

also - you might want to change your loadout in 2.1. - pointdefence is very usefull now. and with less time on target, hard hitting weapons (beams, frags...). also, hrp...

anyway i would recommend testing your build at a nav beacon first, before taking it to the heat.

there is an old, but valid guide to cz tactics here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...e-to-Surviving-a-Combat-Zone-in-a-Starfighter

i don't think being pledged changes things in a cz.

I was flying a Viper III last night as I was already in it in the system with the CZ. I was using beams and multi-cannons. Beams no issue, they were pulling down their shields in one weapon capacity charge with pips to weapons. I clearly know the one thing I need to do more now is power management. I rarely had to change the pips around much before 2.1, but I know I should've been much better with my power distribution last night. My main issue was they all seemed to have railguns and they were just stripping my shields in no time.

Good idea about practicing near a nav beacon first while I'm tweaking

yes, those railgunners are crazy. pips management is for sure needed, also using lateral thrusters, so they have a harder time hitting you. if you follow the guide above, and team up with a big buddy npc, those railgunners will in most cases attack him, not you.

problem of a viper is, if you make it to heavy it rapidly looses speed. so HRP are much better than bulkheads in most cases.

With all due respect, but rather than spend all that time complaining 'its now impossible for casuals', you could also have asked for help. Its perfectly possible to do CZs solo in cheap ships. You wont be rambo and you'll need to be smart about your outfitting choices, but its simply not true that its only for hardcore players in huge corvettes. How about you start by posting a coriolis link to your current ship? :)
Oh boy, here we go again...
Again one of the more advanced players that is simply denying that there is a problem...
Maybe this helps: Consider that for every whining mail in the forum, there are 40 players that don't whine, but just quit! Does that help you to realize that there is something wrong with the game at the moment?

I happily will explain again that I played the game months with great pleasure (although I found it very hard), but i am now still only doing trades and mining and a lot of running, because every interdiction that i can not run from kills me, and most of the encounters kill me too (long live game abort to menu. saves me lots of times; not fun, but a necessity to keep playing the game for me)

First - what does it have to do with combat zones?
Second - The AI didn't fight back. If you waited to shoot them in the back and then keep shooting as they were spinning, they never even shot at you. Is that really the level of "difficulty" you were comfortable with? That's sad.

NPCs before 2.1 were broken. They were broken for a very long time, so people who joined within that period of time got used to the fact that AI doesn't fight back and one can slaugter ships ten times bigger by dozens.
Well, that isn't the case, anymore. Better get used to it, if you want to keep playing (which is, as you might not know, optional)

And my case is that FD is killing its own product if things remain as they are now. I still like the trading part and mining part of Elite, but it looks like FD does not want that anymore. They only want skilled combat pilots and I just think that is a whole different approach and clientele. So if it stays as it is now, I will choose to NOT keep playing (not a big loss probably, but as i am writing this, 40 others are thinking it and leaving too.

And you're right, I never won a battle against more than two other ships, however, must of the time I could run away. It this moment I cannot run away from two ships, that get me killed far too soon. And i know this is my fault, because I can not fly and pip at the same time (never won the training battle against the big ship once), but loved all the other stuff until 2.1... but that is not the case any more

Why are all you deadly/elite and dangerous players so keen on explaining to us that nothing is wrong... maybe because you all have killed so many ships that you guys became dangerous/elite/deadly? And that was in the easy time... jealous? It really beats me.

Actually I am Harmless, now, since I cleared my save...

I don't think it's that nothing is wrong, just that there's a reason why thing are the way they are. Its a lot more difficult now, but, with some knowledge sharing and insight from other players as a community we evolve and adapt and things will get better again.

I'm Elite in rank but not in skill. I've been boiled up thrice now in ships where the insurance really bit into my wallet and had at least another half dozen near escapes, mostly in CZ's. From 2.1 to now, I've rewritten my CZ playbook extensively. Yes its a bit more cautious now and alot of it agrees with or comes from this thread, which is about as good a resources as I can point to for people having trouble in CZ's right now.

I used to go to theRES's without cargo, but now we carry things we need for mods, andthere is no way to store it, or at least buy a ship for BH and beable to keep the cargo in your other ship.[/FONT]

yes, but

this thread is about CZ (conflict zones), not RES (ressource extraction sites). whether you have cargo or not in a conflict zones makes no difference (beside the risk of loosing it by destruction).

There was a reason for me and that's because I loved and enjoyed the volume of ships doing battle, etc. So much fun. So for me, if I can figure things out, there will still be a reason to go, cause I don't do it purely for credits.

...and that is fine, I would argue a High RES site in a medium+ security area gives near as dammit the same experience with added rocks, your faction in this case being internal security. The only notable exception I've seen so far is occasionally you get the presence of a capital ship in a CZ which is great to see pity they can't seem to hit anything though lol

I saw a Federation capital ship just shred an Imperial Clipper in about 4 seconds. Shields down to 0% hull. They can really smack hard if you get too close. Pipo, I'm relatively new as well. Check out my response on the first page. CZs are not for new players with weaker ships. They are the high end combat content for elite players in combat orientated ships with specialized builds. You don't have to drop into a CZ. It's entirely optional. Just cruise past and do your thing.
