As a Premium Beta player, I would like to say thanks for a great opportunity to get involved in the development process for ED.

Q.
With the radar limited to around 7km, will it have any bearing on exploration?

I imagine the transition will be made smoother at some point, but how much of the station are you expecting to see at ~30km/s ? :D

I think a transition effect like the one we have when exiting from hyperspace with the star growing in the field of view could make the trick. An effect for entering supercruise would be great too. I'm confident these are coming.

Not only this but will there be add ons to the ships like in frontier which take up cargo space such as better shield generators, engines ect ect so making your load out a decision and leading to 100's of individual styled ships?

Would be even better if you could swap pilot control between the transport ships and the escorts to do a spot of temporary dogfighting during a mission.

Sit back and think, what have we actually started? Has it occurred that from 1984 in the dark north east of Scotland where it was 5% game and 95% imagination (and no street lighting and a very clear Northern lights show in the winters) that you would be able to turn that around to needing much less imagination to fill the void in front the player?

its brilliant and certainly lives up to my own hype for it.

Q: Will ships have unique designations? (as seen in FE2, etc) outside of possible "naming" of ships?

Yes. The very large ships will be able to carry the smaller ships in the game, by sacrificing cargo space. Similarly we will have the ability to fit shield generators, larger engines etc out of cargo space. This should indeed lead to a good deal of variation.

Planetary docking - I know we arent getting seemless Planetary landing in V1, but how soon will planetary docking (with loading screen) be happening?

I am and old veteran of the original Elite on the BBC micro.

Their has been debate on whether ED will be on a single shard or multiple shards/instances. Are you able to confirm if ED will be on single shard or multiple.

There is a single world - all trade data, world changes etc affect everyone. Some of the more crowded areas of the game are split into islands, where only a subset of players can see each other. For Beta 1 we have friends lists coming, which will mean that friends get to go into the same island.
 
Will there be anything similar to the epic introduction sequence to Frontier: Elite 2? I still fire that up on youtube every now and then and bask in its glory.

This inevitably leads to the next question:
How many of the smallest ship will fit on the largest (player flyable) ship?

I most definitely want my own Carrier!

As a clan /Guild leader what scope will their be for groups like us in ED as a number of us like to play in groups from your original concept?

Not quite sure what you mean. We have seamless docking with stations now. There are more station types to come. I don't expect there ever to be a loading screen, except when you first fire up the game or restart it.
 
Hi David,

As a BBC B player from the 80s, congrats on realising the Elite vision on 21st century tech!


But what about multi-monitor support?

Currently 3x horizontal works but is more of a cludge and certainly isn't optimal. But what about 2x horizontal, or even 2x in a vertical plain?

Can you let us know any details on official multi-monitor support?
 
Will people that play in single player and private groups be able to influence the world in the same way as people in the all group?

For example, a blockade in the all group could stop players delivering goods, but the blockade could be avoided by going into a private group.
