Dav's hope daytime formerly confirmed
Yea but the planet spins, right? Like as in eventually it will be day there, right? Or am I wrong about Hyades Sector DR-V c2-23 A 5? It can't be that it doesn't spin, right?
Yes it does, at the exact same rate it orbits its parent star, tidally locked. So the dark side will always be dark and the light side always light. I do remember it being reasonably light when I went there once, has Dav's Hope actually moved? There are known coordinates, have they changed since odyssey dropped?
I still don't get why they moved it to the night side?
Which settler/corp in their right mind would build a station on the dark side and call it "Hope"![]()
I can see a clear and obvious reason why they moved Dav's Hope to the nightside of the planet, and it is outlined in the above posts. Dav's hope used to be on the day side of a tidally locked planet with an average surface temperature of 457 K. I would assume, with the new dynamic heating models employed in Odyssey, that the average covers the entire planet, and if the night-side is at near-zero K, then the day-side temperature should be around 900 K.Why, why, why do they always choose to do the most stupid and backwards thing?? Everything that is good has to be ruined. I'm really at a loss for words at this backasswards "thinking" going on everywhere. What is the matter with people? It's almost as if they are doing it on purpose. Really getting fed up with it.
That makes quite a lot of sense, and if true, it's actually quite benign, kind even, for FDev to move it in such a way that players can still top up their mats as neededI can see a clear and obvious reason why they moved Dav's Hope to the nightside of the planet, and it is outlined in the above posts. Therefore the former site of Dav's Hope is now too hot to disembark from your ship. So they moved it to the night-side. Can anyone in the system in Odyssey please fly down to the dayside, to confirm the surface temperature?
Sure, moving the base to somewhere in the more habitable dusk/twilight ribbon zone might have been more logical, but it was probably just easier to "flip the polarity" of the longitude co-ordinate and put it 180 degrees away from where it used to be.
I did a video on that:Dav's Hope in Horizons is on the light side and at the base of a huge beautiful mountain where i have spent many hours driving around picking up mats.
Now in Odyssey, Dav's hope is on the dark side its hard to tell what the area looks like because it's really dark here. The mountain is gone and it is totally flat as far as i can see.
I prefer the Horizons Dav's Hope, I am now wondering how other favorite sites have changed after Odyssey.
Has anyone checked out other known popular sites in Odyssey ?

Yeah, every last one, because the secret to proper procedural generation has been lost to Frontier. Probably due to turn-over in the dev team?I bet when atmospheres and wildlife come, every planet will be populated with millions of Bison and Wildebeest to roam the unending great plains.
Sorry to bust in on the party, but that only matters if you are getting out of your SRV and walking around on foot ...That makes quite a lot of sense, and if true, it's actually quite benign, kind even, for FDev to move it in such a way that players can still top up their mats as needed.
Credit where credit's due and all that.
Good post!
The alternative would have been no new planet tech. And as much as I bicker around in the forums at the moment, how should they have known 7+ years ago that their tech from that time will not hold up a decade later?I think regardless of any justification of why this was done, it's a pretty stupid idea to shuffle ALL of the planet surfaces in a game 7 years after its released and everyone knows their way around. If such and such is a good reason why it has been done now, it should have been done in the first place, not 7 years after that ship has sailed. You would think this is the first game these people worked on.
You don't see Rockstar rearranging Los Santos ever......
If you're there to collect materials, you're not gonna be looking at the settlement much. So what's the issue here?Sorry to bust in on the party, but that only matters if you are getting out of your SRV and walking around on foot ...
Which if you are there to collect materials, you won't be doing.

Edit: unless you're a chameleon, of course!
I visited this place for the first time today. Great little place but needed nightvision and lights.
Because this is Fdev idea of game playI quit going to Dav's Hope a long time ago, when I realized that I bought this game to fly spaceships around the galaxy, but instead ended up grinding around in circles in a lousy SRV at the same stupid base, where the mats were placed in the same position each and every time. Also the relogging is just plain stupid, and who wants stupid? Some parts of ED are excellent. Dav's Hope is not.
I remember driving around Davs Hope many times, and when space legs were announced I imagined we'd soon be able to get inside those buildings and check them out, maybe find out more info about such places. Nope, they're just non-interactive props, like pretty much all surface POIs. Should have known better. After going out to Dav’s hope for almost 5 years when I needed some materials this shows where Fdev is out of touch with how we play the game again.
I visited one of the inra bases hoping for the same. The creativity and imagination are gone from ED.I remember driving around Davs Hope many times, and when space legs were announced I imagined we'd soon be able to get inside those buildings and check them out, maybe find out more info about such places.
