DDF and their "god-like powers"

Still implementing the "Vote For A God" or VFG system, where by powers of light and terraforming can occur for the most praised player.

It is not coming along at all.

Getting on for 9 months since 'release' and there are no signs of near God-likes, even though the description on the kickstarter outlined a role post game. FD essentially abandoned the DDF as a talking shop ages ago - well before the release, though there have been a couple of tiny little threads at the start of the year. When they want to chats these days they just plonk it into the main forum. Sandro did start a thread at the end of April telling us the DDF was dead (as if their lack of attention to the DDF had not made that obvious), and that they were starting to think about what God-likes to give us. On one of DBOBE's 'ask me anything' threads, I managed to get the God-like question asked, and DBOBE did reply to it, saying that they were still discussing it.

So, essentially, they abandoned the DDF much sooner than most of us expected, and certainly before they had shown us all their designs, since things like CGs, CQC and powerplay went nowhere near the DDF. Whilst it lasted it was great, however. And then they failed to deliver on the promise that made about a third of the DDF jonty up to that level.

how much does it cost to join the DDF?

For that alone it wasn't worth it, for me anyway.
It was nice to "Name a space station" which got me over that level , but that too hasn't been all it could be (its stuck a ways out from popular systems), or the talked about free ship storage fees which everyone has by default.

I totally lost touch with the development, but am looking to get back into it, and the Horizons thing looks really nice :D

I think they are building the tools for it, If you look on the latest dev post 1.4 will add a lot of story tools for the team to use, they can expose them to the backers at a latter date. They are also building more public modding system for Planet coaster, for example people who sign up there at the right level will be able to create characters that walk around other people parks, which could be ported over to Elite in the future an creating characters in the elite universe is a god like power.

I was one of the more than 100 people who jontied up to the DDF the day that DBOBE made the "near God-like powers" promise. Without that promise, I would not have pledged an extra £200 or so. And people wonder why I can appear to be so angry with FD.

It was a bit of a turn-of-phrase I think from DB - unfortunately its been taken literally. I'm sure he wished he hadn't said it.

Ah, I Jonty'd up not because DB promised stuff in the DDF (i knew it wasn't really for me, though it was nice to stick my head in from time to time), but because it really looked like the KS might fail.
I was fairly new to KS at the time, but it seems quite normal now, that they will rally in the final hours, who knew :(

Not so. He went on to describe what those God-like powers would be. Even without the nice turn of phrase, we would be up in arms about the promised powers that have not been delivered.

Kickstarter Update #33 said:
The Design Discussion Forum (DDF)
Many people have asked (via Reddit and elsewhere) whether the design discussion forum will continue post-release.
The people on the DDF together with people from Frontier will have near god-like powers post-release. They will have access to live stats for the galaxy on rates of piracy, locations for player death, trade activity and so-on. They will decide how the galaxy will evolve. They will decide when famine (or plague) might arrive in a particular system. If, for example piracy is unusually high for a sustained period in a particular system how should the galaxy respond? Should an adjacent system send warships? Should it decay into anarchy and any government collapse? When we create a new ship type or variant How should we introduce it? How do we close down a particular game exploit - or do we? As you can see, the decisions will not stop at release.

As I have rather sneeringly pointed out elsewhere, he was at least right about the decisions (not that there were ever any of those, of course) not stopping at release - since they stopped many months before.

I think manipulating the simulation and Stella forge like that is turning out far more difficult for Frontier than they imagine on a live server.

I think that lots of things (networking, offline mode, dynamic trading market, background simulation, even ship models, etc.) turned out to be more difficult than they imagined. And that's sort-of fine, as long as they are honest about it.

I doubt that naming ships was more difficult than they thought, though.

God-like powers are a bad idea anyway.
I don't want them.
Well, not in the game that is :).
So are SCB's, but no one paid to get those.
