DDF and their "god-like powers"

Have moved on from the DDF. Too much grumpiness to have any sensible discussion there at the moment.

At the moment I am fully ensconced in PP and have more plans and things to do in game than when it was released.

You get a lot more out of the game by participating IMO, rather than grumbling on the sidelines.

Here is a diverging opinion from a backer recognized by the community.

The thing about powerplay, from Federation PoV, is that sitting waiting for packages to "respawn" leaves a lot of time to sit and read the forums. Yes, yes, I'm doing it wrong. I'm only pledged for two weeks, shoot me.....

DDF existed only in the forum as a forum entity. I think some of us go as far to say we value forum discussion as an asynchronous mode and a debating platform. You want godlike powers? Give us a forum via the in-game GUI and call it quits ;-)

You could say this of every game's company.

Not a fan of EVE (despite playing the game on and off between 2006 and 2012) but one thing CCP does well is communicate. This is what we plan on doing, this is what we're doing, this is what we're polishing, this is what's coming. It's one of the reasons I always got sucked back in.

That's true. Their dev blogs are light years ahead of FD and most other companies. I can't go back there though. I tried a year or four ago.

...I'm supposing your referencing 'Offline single-player', which some might agree with.

Among other things I was to some extent yes. It was a disappointment about offline mode and it is still a shame that there is no option for an offline version. But in my view what we have in solo and PG modes fits what I expected of an offline mode anyway, with one caveat obviously, so currently I'm not at all bothered by it.
That caveat is the requirement for a live connection. I'm fortunate enough to have many options for a live connection. Some are not so.
A shame, as I say, but something may be possible in the future when the overhead is reduced to running costs and the game matures.

It was a bit of a turn-of-phrase I think from DB - unfortunately its been taken literally. I'm sure he wished he hadn't said it.

Its rather besides the point. It was a clear commitment, one of which many people in the DDF paid on the basis of, to which the KS wouldn't likely have been funded without, and were getting on to a year since the game was released yet nothing - and of course the silence on this issue is deafening. I think they are just hoping it will go away. From my point of view Braben and Brookes (and I'm going to use their names rather than Frontier) behaviour on this is despicable.

When it comes to this sort of stuff, and there are many other examples, Frontier, or more accurately, the management, seem to be happy to renage on promises, and do people over, and it demonstrates an extremely poor set of behaviours and shows me at least that they have little integrity. This likely affects a very small number of the community (this includes myself) but to be quite frank I wouldn't trust Braben as far as I could throw him. Ultimately that is a very disappointing situation be in when you backed a project on good faith and you get knifed in the back. Its this kinda stuff that has soured the whole experience of ED for me, so thanks for nothing.

Lots of other examples which show they can't be trusted and without going over board I'd say they aren't particularly pleasant people. Just bad form really. They don't deserve the great community they have and due to all of this I think the only way forward would be in the courts. I tend not to forget when I have been screwed over.

They really only have themselves to blame. So shame on them, they don't play straight. Its worth bearing this in mind when dealing with them.

I think Kerrash is referring to how we reacted to the last couple of proposals. In particular the idea we had power of GalNet and the 'pick a planet for expansion' perks.

Did Kerrash pay to be a member of the DDF during KS? If memory serves the answer to that is no and in light of this perhaps he should mind his own business because his continued white knighting for Braben is nauseating to witness.

Of course not, this is the internet. Where some people keep banging on about things well after their relevance has already long faded. Not sure what people hope to achieve. Do they think FD will suddenly say "By Jove! Let's drop all out current plans and go and implement everything on the DDF posthaste! To the devmobile!"

Times have moved on, the DDF's relevance fades with every passing month. Its time to get over it and move on.

You miss the point. This is not some concept tossed around in the DDF as a 'maybe, if we can do it, might be cool'. It was something that was promised on the kickstarter for people who pledged. As such Braben and Co have an obligation to deliver. And no, I'm not part of the DDF but Cosmos is spot on in what he says about Braben and Brookes and some of heir behaviour.

Ah, integrity and honesty no longer relevant - after all it's the internet. Got it. Thanks for the heads up, I see where you're coming from. I'll get with the program just as soon as I can reprogram everything I've tried to live by over the last 63 years. I hope everyone can understand and forgive my ignorance and inflexibility.

Looks in mirror - sees dinosaur.

Let's face it, the DDF wouldn't be a constructive place to ask for opinions. A lot of them aren't even playing the game and some have even uninstalled it.

I think next time there is an "Open Session" with David Braben (here or at one of the gaming con's) one of the DDF needs to pipe up and ask the question in front of everyone.

Pretty sure someone asks it every AMA but, surprise surprise, it's simply ignored.

Actually they have no real obligation to do anything, kickstarter is a tool to kickstart "something" , do not get mistaken into thinking it's a list of everything that has to be done in that specific order under a "law", projects changes and so do goals, perks etc... , the only obligation is that the final product be released, before kickstarting anything on a project at any level, understand what you're getting into.

At this point I'd settle for a sincere apology. That's all. A simple "We screwed up and can't deliver. We're sorry." Just like the apology I would give in my private or professional life, had I promised something then failed to come up with the goods.

One of those.

I'm not even bothered about a partial refund any more, despite what I said a few days ago about a refund being a nice gesture if and when the whole thing is officially abandoned. I just want it concluded. I'm fed up with the uncertainty. A sincere apology accompanying an absolute and official "It's over" would achieve that for me, although I appreciate that for others it could merely precipitate another round of forum combat. Because internet.

But I'm not holding my breath. Frontier are notoriously bad at certain forms of communication, and the sincere apology tops that list.
