DDF members and their "god-like powers" after launch

Other than the short term flux state when we moved to the new forum software recently, we have never been able to create threads in the DDF forum.

True and that was reasonable when FD were constantly feeding us topics to comment on, but they ceased doing that along time ago.

Fellow DDF members, which God would you be?

I'd definitely have to be one of the Greek Gods. Zeus or Apollo.

In memory of the late David Eddings, I'd pick one of the Troll Gods from the Elenium and Tamuli series:

◾Ghworg, the God of Kill
◾Ghnomb, the God of Eat
◾Schlee, the God of Ice
◾Khwaj, the God of Fire
◾Zoka, the God of Mating

It's a difficult choice.... ;)

Oh if we can have fictional (cos the others are real...) I'd have to go with Melkor, back in the creation days, pre-Morgoth.

I think you'll find most DDF members are still looking at the DDF's and wondering 'when?', as for God like powers, well, I would credit them with more sense than to think that would ever happen :) I'm grateful to them for taking part, for backing the game early and for contributing their thoughts and ideas, even if a lot seems to have gone largely ignored when it came down to actual implmentation, maybe soon(tm)?

I'm in the DDF. I personally don't want god-like powers. I do want FD to actually deliver them because it was a Kickstarter promise and I do not want them to renege on yet another one. Futhermore, they specifically used that at a point when they needed more pledges to meet the KS target and it no doubt boosted DDF pledge levels. Whatever we get I hope it's toggleable. The current expansion system is not god-like powers - it's just "throwing the dog a bone" and if they try and pretend that's them delivering what they promised I will no doubt have toy/pram moment. :)

For non-DDF forum members complaining at how Bad the DDF was/is, I look to see how many threads they have started in Gameplay and Features or its new subforum, Suggestions... giving constructive criticism, gameplay analysis, design alternatives, etc.

If the sum total of their G&F thread count is zero, I take with a pinch of salt their assertations that:

- Design Discussion Forum members were the wrong people for making design suggestions
- Design Discussion Forum suggestions were not good, and should have been better
- Design Discussion Forum members are Not Worthy.

Fact is, "constructive suggestions" beats "no suggestions".

Yes, even if you think those suggestions were Bad and Wrong (ie. Badong), they still beat "no suggestions" into a cocked hat.

It's easy to come in late and make pronouncements as to how poorly things were done Before. Just don't expect a gold star for effort if that's all you have to say! ;)

just speculating , but I suspect they will be the one who will initiate new location growth.

btw without super cruise it wouldn't be a space sim any more.
so thank you DDF. nice one.
this has to be said cos you guys never got the recognition of the crowd.
thx again.

The DDF was a great idea and they helped a lot with ideas for the gameplay which I am sure will keep the devs busy for several years. What I want to know is who is prioritising this stuff for implementation? Because the stuff Frontier are working on is certainly not high on my priorities.

I couldn't give a stuff about community ventures.

I want to see major improvements in the gameplay that will affect me and MY game - external views, ships, stations, landing on planets, no more random targets for bounty missions, passengers, crew, subscriptions to news, THARGOIDS! - all the stuff the first games did so well that this game doesn't. These are the things I really care about, and are the only things that will bring me back to playing the game again.

FD. It has always been FD. It always will be FD.

Am I missing something?...I read these god-like power to be akin to being able to decide how the universe is built and what goes in it, via DDF.

It never seemed to me like additional powers over other players in game, that'd seem like a mistake, imo.

I don't know, maybe I'm just being really dense.

Puny god-like powers.

As I've said elsewhere, I backed to space station level so everything below that was a bonus as far as I'm concerned. So even though I consider supercruise to be a huge coup without which the game would have been much weaker, if nothing else comes of the whole DDF situation I won't be too heartbroken. I certainly had a lot of fun in the DDF during pre-alpha.

Having said that I do know a couple of people who upped their pledges to DDF level, and only DDF level, after David Braben's "god-like" comment. And while they're both happy to have had their funding help to drive the Kickstarter to completion, I'm not sure they don't feel just a little bit ripped-off at the way it was sold. I've never directly asked, so I could be wrong, but I certainly know that I would feel a lot less comfortable about the situation if I'd pledged the extra £100 from alpha to DDF solely to get the mythical god-like powers.

not being dense at all I think its exactly what was meant and understood by DDF members :)
