DDF members and their "god-like powers" after launch

Well consider the god-like powers were for post release...

Ahem, so is authentication for these powers kept on LDAP, a straight data store or some kind of AAA server?

Why am I asking...oh...no reason

*starts whistling and strolling away*

For non-DDF forum members complaining at how Bad the DDF was/is, I look to see how many threads they have started in Gameplay and Features or its new subforum, Suggestions... giving constructive criticism, gameplay analysis, design alternatives, etc.

If the sum total of their G&F thread count is zero, I take with a pinch of salt their assertations that:

- Design Discussion Forum members were the wrong people for making design suggestions
- Design Discussion Forum suggestions were not good, and should have been better
- Design Discussion Forum members are Not Worthy.

Fact is, "constructive suggestions" beats "no suggestions".

Yes, even if you think those suggestions were Bad and Wrong (ie. Badong), they still beat "no suggestions" into a cocked hat.

It's easy to come in late and make pronouncements as to how poorly things were done Before. Just don't expect a gold star for effort if that's all you have to say! ;)

As I can't give you any rep atm (says 'the man') have a hug <squeeeeze>

:)

Just a quick question. I am a Kickstarter backer of ED too, but I backed it with less than £300. I guess I will never be able to become member of the DDF. Am I correct?

... It's probably also worth pointing out that FD used the DDF for a sounding board - they always reserved the right to completely ignore anything that was said in the DDF no decisions were made by the DDF. ...
Yeah, this is what I've observed with every game development kickstarter to date.

It's also the reason, after seeing this demonstrated, I will never back another game development kickstarter, sadly. :(

As has been pointed out recently in popular media, pre-ordering or backing unfinished games gets you exactly that: unfinished games. No more for me.

DDF was at the £300 kickstarter level and above. The rest of us mere plebs are mere puppets in their twisted game :p

Your completely misunderstanding what he was refering too.

the 'god-like' powers were the ability to have input directly with the game designers into the mechanics/design of the game, at the outset.
I'm sure everyone has taken the time to read the DDF to see what the original specs were for each features and how the DDF members discussed and help shape the game. .......

There is no special functionality to deliver to the DDF members. Thats absolute tosh....

Where do you get such wild ideas??

From FD (DBOBE, even) directly. They specifically said there would be a post-live role, as well as the design role. All very vague, of course. Examples were how a system should react to a famine. As I recall it was all generic: nothing that would give any in-game advantage (which would have been trashed as a concept by the DDF, based on other, similar conversations).

Just like to say this (so far) has been the most pleasant and polite thread I've ever read on these forums. I never thought such I thing could exist, so thank you everyone whose posted here.
That is all.

From reading the archive quite extensively, it seems to me that the OUTCOME of DDF discussions has been uniformly of very high quality. Obviously as a non-member I cant speak to the quality of the discussions themselves but the folks I know to be members regularly posting on here seem to have their heads on straight at least. Based on the contents of the archive I certainly have no problem with the same people being involved in ongoing discussions about future directions for game development, however - as has been mentioned already - the current list of good ideas is quite enough to keep FD busy for a while, including through the release of several expansion modules.
