Dead and lonely Universe!

Hey fellow commanders!

I've started traveling through the universe some days ago. My first impression was full of good and impressed feelings. But after some days where I rarely found some human ships, I was disappointed about the interactions of players. I tried to contact nearly everybody I saw on my journey but no one showed any reaction.
The only time a had something like a player-to-player-interaction was the time when a drunk lakon pilot rammed my fullyloaded sidewinder so hard, that it explodes into 1000000 pieces. Including my hard earned first 12k credits stored as cargo.
It's a pity and now after earning some credits and buying a cobra I fell so disappointed of the social aspect, that I just wanna quit the game or become a dirty pirate, giving a damn <ahem> on everybody and his laws...

Please tell me is there anybody else who feels the same way?
Is it normal that in a such a lonely place like the elite universe nobody talks to each other?
Don't u wanna build friendships or trading alliances?

Best Regards,

I want to build friendships and alliances. If you will give your commander name, I will add it to my list, and I hope we will get matched together more frequently.

Problem with comms however is not players - currently there's no sound effect of any kind of warning of receiving answer to hail, also it doesn't always work for some reason. So don't give up on it, it will get better.

About loneliness - well, ED will be incredibly huge game, so meeting other players outside core systems will be a little bit difficult - unless you organize a meeting. However in core systems you should meet quite a few people. Regarding this, there's problem now with matchmaking, which causes this "lonely" feeling, because it doesn't match you with lot of people you could play together with.

Try again in Beta 2, where both of these things will be definitely improved. So hold on, and have fun out there.

Instancing is rather busted right now, for a start. We're not being put into instances properly. I hope FD fixes it soon.

Also, text comms messages are easily missed. It doesn't work when you are docked, either.

EliteD seems to be slightly suffering some criticism due to peoples expectations when they see "MMO".

Even with the coming (soon?) improvements to communications, we are never going to see the kind of social interaction that we do in the more common MMO games.

I think this is could cause a problem with people not entirely understanding what they are getting when they buy the game.

I guess its hard to marry the want of having a whole universe to spread out into with the expectations of multiplayer MMO gameplay.

Space is big, empty and lonely.

Even in a system of 55 stars it is a stark realization that people and life is precious. If you were unable to Super Cruise or Hyper Space jump then this reality would be even more obvious.

Also with this game being SO good in VR, I'd expect a reasonable amount of the player base to be playing in VR.. where typed communication is neigh on impossible.

Where are they seeing "MMO"?

I've seen other people saying MMO, claiming that FD is marketing ED as an MMO, but I don't see "MMO" mentioned either at the ED main site or the kickstarter page.

Hold on to that feeling of loneliness OP because it may just well get worse if/when they introduce the option for players to appear the same as NPCs! :p

I have a feeling quite a lot of poeple are playing with VR headsets that hinders keyboard interaction. Would be nice to see this solved some way, but perhaps they are hoping that voice communication will be the preferred channel.

Also, I'd like to see some form of broadcasted chat, like zone-chat in WoW. Much more possibilities for random chit chat that way, than hailing individual players.

Players (especially PvPers) who want true MMO experience are disappointed because of such misleading publicity.

The "no true Scotsman" fallacy :D

Edit: actually I just watched that video I didn't see "MMO" or "true MMO" anywhere in it. Maybe I missed it again. I have before.

Look at this official beta trailer released by FD, please:

Players (especially PvPers) who want true MMO experience are disappointed because of such misleading publicity.

By that logic all the players of Titanfall are upset because a giant robot doesn't follow them down the street as in the advertising for the game, or Rise players are upset at the graphics as all the adverts were 'not in game footage' The list is endless, adverts 'big up' games all the time, E: D's trailers are no different. In fact, for a further trailer comparison check out the 'Hope', Deceived' and 'Return' trailers for SWTOR then play the game and tell me if they bare any resemblance.
