Dead horse squadron is the 1st 500 member squadron : CAN WE GET MORE SPACE?!

The only reason it hit 500 is because of a clickbait name and public statement. "Let's hit 500 just to show FDEV 500 is not enough".

I'm sorry, but this is lots of rubbish. Honest opinion - 500 is perfectly fine, don't waste devtime on this nonsense.

Bingo!

It's like DDosing a site, just so you can complain they need to improve it.

So to my jaded eye, what we have here was a QA test to verify that the squadron membership limit was coded correctly. In which case, the test passed I suppose ...

The problem is, no matter what it's set to (within reason) it will not be enough. eg: Even 1000 will be hit at some point. So to my mind 500 is as good as any other limit.

HOWEVER, it does maybe show that a high level/affiliation might be useful to in effect denote two or more Squadrons as one in the same in reality?

It's intended as a squadron, not a fleet, not a guild, not a fan-club, a squadron.

500 is definitely too much.

I'd say reduce it to 100

Less a real request and more of an attention seeking post imo. As others have said a real squadron should be comprised of ppl looking to either play together or work towards a common goal, not just filling it up with randoms you'll probably never fly with

Does it add to your immersion "leading" 499 ppl you don't know and let's be honest probably don't care about beyond getting them a subs/followers for your videos?

Doesn't Moebius have over 30k players in their guild (I am sure there are more than 500 players that would like to be in their guild, with an eye to seeing what is needed)? Where is Moebius on this issue

I am not aware of any other game that allows for more than 250-200 player slots per guild (I am sure there are probably one or two out there, so, yeah). What any guild based game has learned is that any guild larger than 150 players or so needs more robust tools than the in game ones provided...so most of these larger guilds turn to the third party tools we are already using. You hit your limit? Then you are better off with outside game management and direction, than in game ones....

I'm all for huge numbers for squadrons....if that is something the devs, the game, and the database servers can deal with....but, honestly, in game support for 500 people guilds are not the norm in the gaming industry...and any larger number certainly isn't.

I agree with Yamicks' requests

No limits would be fantastic and in a lot of cases open up what is essentially a global chat system which I feel the game has been missing

The lack of being able to be in and create more than 1 squadron is what's going to stop me from using this feature,Elite doesn't encourage you to put down roots, why should I do so for a Squadron?

Uhm... Though I am not really against more space, I think you also get the 500 people size in games like Elder Scrolls Online for guilds... And in case of Dead Horse Squadron it was about filling up the sqadron with as many people as possible. The player group agenda in that case was not really an ingame purpose, but just filling it up to the player limit. Also by a well known content creator.

Fill a squadron up with 500 players that are actually at least a bit active in a normal player group like structure that is dedicated to another, game related agenda, and not just for proving a point.
Not that I don't want more space, becaue, why not? But I kinda think 500 is okay.

Agreed, I believe that if the "Ant" and there's only one, where to start a squadron, he would max it out as quickly or perhaps, quicker.

And allowing one to join multiple's could make hundreds of supposed squadrons which would all be maxed.

I have to say that when I first read this thread all I could think of was the absurdity of it. Having Yamiks' be the OP, didn't help soften thay impression. We all just have to remember, in this day and age, any publicity is good publicity.

Congratulations Yamiks.

Squadrons are weird anyways. Is there squadron specific content? You don't need a pmf to have a squadron so you don't really control anything that is functionally in the game. The chat/voice tool in game is clunky to access relative to other mmos (hit return /local , /global, /character name, /guild etc. and type is the usual mechanism) - not so in ED. There are no alliances possible, so the capped squadron limit can't be accommodated. There is no squadron faction (a currency related to the achievements of the squadron), so there is no accountability or progress within the ranks of the squadron, or comparisons between squadrons.

I think there is a ton more work to do with the concept before removing the cap becomes a huge priority.

If they do remove the cap - can I be 501? ;)

Discord with overlay seems to do the job a bit better.

I completely agree. Outside of the 1 in game squadron, I'm a member of 2 others, with plans to join the fuel rats someday and there's no reason I can't be a member of all these squadrons in game.

And a 500 player cap limit is just ridiculous. Why is there even a limit to begin with?

Same reason as all the other arbitrary limits in Elite I think.

Database indexing.

Or the fact Fdev are terrible at coding, and have no clue how to code squads to have more than 500 players...

Still, at least this game isn't fallout 76....

Only old dogs like me attended formal military, and management courses on Span Of Control... :)

The rest of you use Excel, etc... :)

See: Rule of 150.
