Dead horse squadron is the 1st 500 member squadron : CAN WE GET MORE SPACE?!

My guess is P2P is the problem. If you have 500 people in same chat, you either need master server that will handle 1->500 connections and that might cause problems for some internet providers if you just create so many connections and maintain them. Some ISP limits how many ports you can have active at the same time. So in theory you can have 65535 members but you won't be able to do anything else just relay chat messages from ED.

Is there a way to create chat server for so many people without maintaining active connections? I guess it would delay things. Maybe open and close connections and sync like 1000 people at one time?

That is my speculation why they put 500 player limit. Might be something else, wish devs said why is the limit 500, instead of us guessing.

Were these 500 recruited just to prove this point though or actually active members of your team? I.e. a legit stat?

It was set up specifically to get to the limit as quickly as possible to then use it to get it changed. It was communicated as such in the squadron info in game. The primise being, even BEFORE even playing and organising a squadron, that 500 was too low a limit. It'll be interesting to see how active and effective his squadron is, and how much time he is going to have to spend on organising the squadron's activities :D

Congratulations on hitting 500 members but I have to ask this question now that you have that many members what are your goals as a Squadron. Do you plan to participate in power play are you supporting a minor faction? I think everyone is missing the point of squadrons it is in my so humble opinion that squadrons is not about the numbers it is about the content. You can have 500 members in a Squadron but if no one is working together to reach a common goal and all they do is fly around in 500 different directions what do you need a Squadron for?
I feel you don’t need to have more commanders in a Squadron what you need is meaningful content for that Squadron to do. Such as colonizing unpopulated systems. Building new locations of expansion would be one example of what a Squadron is capable of. So I feel that 500 members is a fine starting point now we need to meaningful gameplay for that 500 members to participate in as a group. Because is that not what Squadron is all about?
 
Frontier in 2021:

We will implement flight groups to allow squadrons of 500 members to play together.

Unfortunately flight groups planetary bases will not make the update and will have to be postponed, but we will have some exciting paintjobs for our recently released squadron carriers. More information soonTM.

The goal was to break the system, or at least to push the system to further some other agenda. Which, for me, appears to mean to allow someone to moan at FD. Everyone else, squadrons? cool, lets see what we can do with this...Yamiks,.. lets see how I can break it or manipulate it for my own ends.

no, please. that would endanger my noble project of converting the whole galaxy to anarchism, since i would be submitting dead horse squadron requests non stop whole day!

Yes, yes and yes. So simple and logical, that it hurts. Why always have to ask for the simple stuff that should be there from day 1 Frontier? Seriously, why??

This low limit is absolutely too low for any sort of guild system and MUST be changed!

Squadrons are detrimental to the longevity of the game and should be made WAY BETTER!

* Limit of a sqadron member amount - removed!
* Limit from squadrons that 1 player can join - removed!
* Ability to show 1 squadron that the player wants to represent the most! (putting the tag of the squadron next to the name etc)

Non serious MMO out there allows to join more guilds than one at a time. You’re talking dead members/guildies mess here, no real devotion to guild’s affairs etc. I know what I’m talking about, been a guild master of an role-play guild with 300 members for 3 years in SWTOR.

In fact I have an impression you’ve never seen how the MMO guilds work, Yamiks. What will you be doing with your 500 members??? Got any plan for managing such a huge people count???

Jesus, another amateur. It hurts you because you're not grasping with your gamer's mind the bigger picture, dude. On the other hand, why would you? You're just an end-user of a very complex product.

Those set of rules (as many other in our game) were set by developers not without a reasons. If you're not grasping those reasons, you just have to trust me on it. Or trust the devs. SERIOUSLY, THAT'S WHY!!!!

I agree with you about your sentiment I myself being a guild leader from all the way back to Star Wars Galaxy days. But I understand what Yamiks is saying. But I like you know that it is not the size of your Squadron but how you use it that matters. That is why I have been suggesting proper colonization mechanics gameplay be developed for elite dangerous.It is one thing to build a Squadron it is another thing keeping it together and working towards a common goal.
