Dear Griefers. Why you get mad when you don’t get an easy kill/murder?

Yes I know what you are thinking. "Here we go again" but no this is a serious question for griefers in the game when things don’t work out for them. Normally I don’t mind them cause they make the world exciting for pve players like me. But this one particular I don’t respect

Now, I’m not gonna name what system or name of the player, but I am gonna tell my story and I will call the griefer Mr. X

So yesterday I had a funny encounter with a griefer "Mr. X".
Im no PVP player so I can’t say I’m the toughest in a fight. But I have always played open only, so I have learned the hard way what kind of people you can encounter. Which in the end have given me experience on what to do in various situations. I do combat against NPC, and missions, so I guess I’m what you call a PVE kind of guy.
Anyway, yesterday I was just minding my own business flying around in the system Looking for a good spot to mine, when suddenly a cobra MK4 appears behind. I throttle down and sure enough a few seconds later Mr. X interdict me... And I’m thinking oh boy.
For the record my Krait Mk2 was a mining hybrid. I’m carrying one seismic charge, and two packhounds and two large torpedoes and fighter on board my ship for self protection. Plus I’m running without shields for stealth and superior speed for quick escapes...
Anyway I was interdicted. So I checked my attackers loadout. All frag cannons. And I’m thinking this can’t be good, cause my armor is thin. And sure as the sky is blue he opens up on me without scan or text. So my mind tells me, Well this dude is only trying help me back to the rebuy screen. And I’m not gonna let him. So I quickly boost away knowing he can’t keep up with my speed. Plus I need to get at least 2 km away from his hurting frag cannons. I launch my fighter and deploy hardpoints and start flight assist turn in order to get lock on. Now he was being very persistent on killing me so before I get lock on he gets within short range where my missiles have zero effect. They need to arm so I can’t point blank fire. Except if used dumb fire missiles which I didn’t have.
So I try to get some distance. This time I get 3.5 km away and lock on, so I start firing and the missiles connect. His shields goes down thx to my fighter and my missiles gets him down to 70% give or take. Anyway he was being smart enough to understand he couldn’t win this one so he high tails out of there, but before he did. He send me this
"Stop running from a Cobra Mk4 LOL"
Not only did he have the audacity to attack unprovoked but now he had to lecture me about what to do, in order to survive.
it annoyed me a bit, and I must admit i was perhaps giving it too much thought and being small about it. But I still text him, which I know was a stupid and silly thing. Cause there is no point in arguing with another player who thinks he knows best in everything.
"But I basically asked, why he was so focused on telling me what to do, when he was being the aggressor and attacked me unprovoked, so why should I bend over?
his reply was "easy to let your fighter do your job" Well in to my defense my fighter gave me the distraction and time to get a clear log on and then hurt him the most. Plus with my loadout I couldn’t go close quarters with him. I didn’t have the weapons plus my armor would melt from his frags. So I did what I had to.
I asked him if he even checked my loadout before nuking me, which to no surprise he didn’t, cause he only wanted to kill me in cold blood from that attack apparently. Anyway he didn’t give any valid arguments, but he did get his team mate to text me in order to provoke and mess with me. But To be honest I think that made him look even weaker...

Anyway I’m not trying to be pity but I do wanna ask griefers this question.
You fly around like cold killers in space. You attack unprovoked any form for innocent ship. You don’t care if they are armed or not. You just start nuking.
Now I don’t have a problem with that cause like I said I play open, always have. And you make the Elite universe more exciting and dangerous. It makes the blood pump. Especially for a pve guy like me. So I’m good with that. I understand the risks.

WHAT I DON’T UNDERSTAND is why you give me a attitude and a lecture on how to play the game when suddenly your little dirty trick doesn’t payout well for you? I’m not telling you not to grief. Do what you want. It is your game and you can play like you want... Ergo I play like I want by only doing pve, and mostly peaceful stuff. Yet you wanna tell me how bad I am?
LOL! I’m no PvP player, I mind my own business, but did you really expect me to either sit still and die, or take the coward way out and Combat log? No Ofc not. My ships are not generic PvP builds copied from the web. No my builds are personalized custom builds to multirole and survive most situations. Ergo Fast escape or hit and run tactics. I’m not gonna bend over. I’m gonna do whatever to survive attacks. So far it has worked 90% of the Times against players. But I’m the bad player apparently, cause you thought I would be an easy kill ticket. But you made the big mistake of thinking I would be a defenseless pve player without a backup plan? So who was actually the smart one this round. Your dirty trick didn’t pay off against my casual build. I had a backup plan for an encounter such as this. Though my ship was paper thin and mining build, I still had thought out for a situation such as this. Speed and long range weapons and fighter.
So you griefers can say what you want. I know how you operate, cause your builds and fly style is so easy to predict! Ergo all my ships are build for escape plans or hit and run. And it works like a charm 9 out 10...

So let us make this clear. You don’t like Combat loggers. No one does. But don’t you dare to tell me what to do when suddenly you encounter pve players who actually have a backup plan, and things don’t go the way you wanted... You play dirty. Then why on earth should I give you any advantages. I anticipated your move and checked your loadout. You gave no thought to who you attacked and thought I would bend over and die. Well who was the smart pilot this time?

Happy weekend pilots and fly safe o7

Absolutely agree. Its funny how they react when you dont follow what they think it is correct. Some days ago in a CG i take my icourier and named it Red Star Police, as a rol of law enforcement. Obviously for that task i put crime reports on. Then interdicted a gang of three famous griefers, one in a federal corvette and other in a cutter (the third guy i dont remeber well). They attacked me obviously and system police appeared. Well their message was "Crime report is for kids, go play lego".
Well no, i play my game as i want, i dont like what you do in combats 3vs1 but you are free to do it if you want. Then what is the deal of using npcs aginst you? 3 big guys need i fight alone for their pleasure? again no. Well i interdicted them non stop until they highwake. I dont usually do this and fight with crimes off but that day i had some fun with slower big ships and they dont like it a bit lol

Indeed they always claim they can play how they want, which ofc is true. And I don’t have a problem with that. And they sure love to team gang you. I’m fine with that too. But as soon they get outsmarted or beaten, then suddenly they get on the high morality horse on how things are supposed to be... Like I said, I was out to do some mining, but if open play has ever taught me anything then it is to always have a backup plan for the worst situation ever. As a mining ship I don’t really have a chance in PvP, but that doesn’t mean I should just give them a free kill. I I will do what I must to defend myself, and not fall for their dirty tricks. In my extra spare hard points I keep missiles. I have high speed for running away plus I keep a fighter to back me up. I do hit and run, or worst scenario run away and high wake. But man the stuff you gotta listen to from them after when things didn’t turn out great for them is dead funny. "Bwaaa you use noob skills, you run, you use bad weapons" oh yeah well it worked didn’t it... But it is perfectly fine for them to attack unarmed traders, explorers or passenger liners. But as soon they get taste of their own medicine they call you stuff lol... 90% of all griefers run the same generic sheep build they copied from the web. And they attack in the same pattern always. Either in high numbers or on unaware soft targets... Well I’m not gonna give them that satisfaction. I use what ever I must to survive their *cough cough tactics and skills. I’m gonna think smart and have a build that benefits me, from gank or surprise attacks... and 9 out 10 times I always survive cause they do the same tactic always. So predictable.

I will first say. I had seen that this thread was on Xbox and PS4 part of the forum, so I dont really have any saying in this, as I playing on the PC version. But:

I honestly dont know why griefers react like that. I havent met one, and I hopefull wont have to meet one. But I only know about them from watching videos on YouTube and reading things like this. The thing I dont understand with them is, as soon someone fighting them back they are like:

"This commander actually fighting back! I better high tail out of here and dash him in the comments"

I mean, if they start the fight and their target player is fighting back, then dont be cowards and fight back. Then they can taste how the rebuy is.

As for me, I wont never griefing other players as I know how hard it is to earn alot of credits. Also, Im not a PVP type of person. But if I ever plays in open and a griefer pulls me out of SC and begins to attacking me, then I will either run or fight back depend on what ships I use. I know there is like, 0,000001% chance for me coming out as the winner, but at least I gonna try and hoping to put a mark on the griefer to say that I will fight back to defend myself if I have to. Not running away like cowards when things begin to heat up. Im like that in World of Tanks too (I know it is an other game, just hang on a second) where I will try to stand my ground when Im in an artillery. I know the chance of surviving is slim, but I wont just kill myself as soon Im alone on my team. I know there is that one small chance to win and I will try to aim at that at all time.

I just hope the time never comes that I have to show it in Elite

+1 and Mad Respect.
Now... Following this thread to spot the Mansplaining griefer!
"I did NOT provoke, I provide content!"

Well then, this sums it up nicely.

In this world, there are only two types of people. ones with honour, and those without. ALL greifers fall into the latter.... :D

This does reflect their mentality though, no different to School yard bullies. they will unsuspectingly lash out at the weakest kid possible, trying to smash their skull with a stick, then when the weak kid picks them up and throws them to the ground like a ragdoll, the bully is the first to cry to the teacher about being hurt....

I never did get bullied after that... ;)

Yeah sadly there are a small number of neck beards living in their mum's basement who feel because they were early adopters they should never have to be worried about being pwned by a noob.

I think fdev have done a great job of ensuring there is some sort of balance in the game and someone who was in it at launch does not have an unassailable advantage over people who joined later.

Why are people cowards for running from a kill machine when they are in a trade maching ?
I think he was implying that someone in a killing machine was being a coward by running from the fighting trader.

For whatever reason these folks need to feel like they won. If they can't get a win by wrecking a ship they go for a mental win with some self boosting message crap.

Beautiful story. Especially the part how you turned the tide. It’s the same reason you had (have?) people hanging in eravate popping sidewinders. Put them against an actual threat and, more than likely, they will lose. Evidenced by this particular persons build. All frag cannons on a slow ship, then attacking a ship that can outrun you easy as pie. And he projected his failure to think on you.

S/He figured you to be an easy pop, likely just saw you had no shields and didn’t look further into it.

I also don’t care about griefers. They do add an element of flavor to the game. But, turn the tables, and you typically find them having a temper tantrum. I’m also not PvP and have been hit by griefers before. My response is typically to run. And that has, most of the time, worked.

Yeah, you should see griefers tuck-tail once they realize someone is hunting them down using the same tactics. You gonna go seal clubbing? Then don't complain when a wing interdicts you with the sole purpose of sending you to the rebuy screen. The amount of combat logging and subsequent salty messages i've seen... lol. Still not all of them are terrible. Some will only attack combat ships and they stick around and fight because they want a challenge. That I can respect. I mean, we'll still go after them, of course.

Because some people simply can't tolerate being bested.

I see this in loads of online games.

Grenade launchers in CoD, arty' in WoT, meta-cars in Forza, my beloved 7-cannon A-10 in TC's H.A.W.X. 2. These are all things that are legitimate gameplay, but because it doesn't suit someone's ideal, they get stroppy when hit by it.

Yes, pulling out a fighter in ED is easier than flying without one, and life is easier with RCO. But like "n00b tubes" in Call of Duty, their use is, as per the GM's decree, perfectly legitimate gameplay.

It's a classic example of people cherry-picking what they think is "acceptable", but not realising that as nothing more than a regular customer with no GM privilege, their opinion and feelings are basically meaningless in deciding the rules of play. It's not their call.

TL;DR: Are you a ganker who can't defeat CMDRs using in-game tools provided by the GM? Try getting better at the game.

To add to this, the verbal belittling that OP describes are the last, desperate thrashes for perceived superiority by someone who's just realised he isn't the all-powerful entity he thought he was.

lol yeah I remember back in my old counterstrike days (original CS, not source) people got sooooooooooooooo salty about the AWP, called it a noobcannon, called it "cheating" to use it, never seemed to actually pick it up and use it themselves - or if they did they'd get killed immediately. Still, can't possibly be their fault, it's the noobcannon that's OP. Except when they're using it, obviously.
