Dear Mr Braben - I will spend $100 more if you add a functional external view.

Well I was making a joke but okay, commands to NPC Pilot apply be they piloting the Fighter or the main ship
So if you have a NPC Pilot and YOU take the Fighter out, they will Pilot your Ship and you can issue them orders as per the role panel.
Obviously it still have a lot of place holders as the F63 below is not an SRV

Well ok, I guess I didn't get the joke, but ok.

So if you take out the fighter and tell the AI to run away or help fight or something else, you're getting a FIRST person view of an AI pilotting your ship according to your basic instruction. Still not the same as a third person view of the ship you're piloting. That would be you looking at the outside of your fighter while you retain control of it... while the AI runs away in your ship.

Ill refrain from attempts at humour in the future

We CAN:

  • Magically repair our SRV hull to 100% at the click of a button.
  • Magically create ammunition at the click of a button.
  • Magically assemble fully functional fighters from our cargo bays.
  • Plot a course 1000 LY away from our destination accurately.
  • Have magical healing beams.

We CAN'T

  • Have a rear view camera
  • Have a camera feed from a station or tower.
  • Have a view from above from our orbiting ship in our SRV
  • Have a mobile external view that is responsi
  • (We also can't have a ship computer that remembers the prices of the last station we were at!)

Most of your points I actually agree with, which might surprise you... with some caveats. I suspect the fighters will be stored intact in its own bay same as the srv's rather than assembled as needed. The SRV magically making stuff is just to placate players who didn't want to keep running away to get ammo - a cheap annoying mechanic, but ok. A rear (and side and vertical) view is a no brainer as is the tower view IF they were displayed on a screen inside the ship (on the canopy for instance) as the pilot of the ship would see them and NOT as if you were teleporting around outside the ship. Trade computer is another no brainer (perhaps as a seperate purcbasable item?). And I even agree there is room to enhance/improve the existing camera.

I expect the magic of the ship creation will be modular attachments. Wings are stacked up in the cargo bay and robotic arms pick them up and slide them into place and attach them. While cockpit is one piece, wing is an other engines are another etc.

That is at least quasi believable.

But having no interior cameras already is a bummer. No zoom function.. nothing. Although the distances are greater we do have helecopters and drones with massive camera ranges. Why not data link with other camera systems.

I can log into my areas traffic cameras from my phone here in this century.

They should have a flight recorder that you can play back like a lot of Sims, Cliffs of Dover was amazing just watching the bullet shells - shear poetry!

Just read the wrap up for day 2 and I've seen where you're getting the "magic ship creator" from... and I agree, it's a dumb idea. I can see them selling you very small fighters that your ship could store in a "magazine", but being able to "construct fighters in your hangar"? Nah... that's a stretch too far for my credibility.

As for the "telepresence" thing, I can see why they did that - so they don't have the dilemma of what to do if you die in the fighter. They now argue that you're not actually in the fighter, you're still in the ship. It's still not a real 3rd person view though coz you can't control your ship while you're in the fighter - they say it can "can hold position or follow you, continuing to attack whilst you pilot the fighter"... so you'll give the ship a simple order (follow me & attack or stay away and don't get hurt) and the AI will pilot your ship while you pilot the fighter. And from what they say about the pilot lounge your ship will come with a basic (probably harmless rated) AI and you can "hire" better AI's at a cost, either to pilot your ship or the fighters.

As an Aside, which might have come up already

In VR in the turret in the SRV it is a 3rd person external camera point of view detached from and above the SRV.

You look about and you can see you POV is suspended above and behind the turret.

Is that just a quirk of VR? Is the POV supposed to be attached to the Turret and I just need to reset, or is it a deliberate placement.

Lets just add

WE CAN:

Magically transport ships across the galaxy
Magically transport modules across the galaxy.

WE STILL CAN'T:

Have a rear view mirror camera

Yeah I would like the ability to change a UI panel or add a new one were you can see a view of your ship/target from the outside like in most other space sims such as X3 Albion etc although I'm not sure if this would impact any gameplay balancing :D

I disagree.
I dont want any Playable External Cameras.

I do agree that an External View with Limited Functionality would be nice for Eye Candy.
For example an External Camera in which Basic Movement is still Available but neither Targeting Options nor any sort of Crosshair are around. So you can actually see your Ship during different Movements and see your Weapons Firing Animation albeit not in actual Combat.
An External Cinematic View with a Set Camera following your Ship from a Fixed or Parallel Moving Position would also be nice to get some Eye Candy and Video Scenese.

However its not something I would Pledge for.
Its an After tought and low Prioritiy

I would however Readily Pledge 500 Euro for increasing the Ship Size Ranges.
Frigates with 3 C4 Turret Mounts. And up to C8 Internals
Destroyers with 4-5 C4 Turret Mounts. And up to C9 Internals.
Cruisers with 3-4 C5 Turret Mounts. And up to C10 Internals.
Importand part being Turret Mounts so the Main Fighting Direction of these Ships is Diagonal and Broadside and not the usual Super Heavy Fighter Jousting.
