Dear Mr Braben... The poll

Do you think FD should change aspects of the game just to please the new crowd?

  • Yes, I'm a new comer, it's for the better. (More money for better game)

    Votes: 45 7.5%
  • Yes, I'm an 84er and it's for the better. (More money for better game)

    Votes: 68 11.3%
  • No, I'm a new comer, it's damaging to the game.

    Votes: 128 21.2%
  • No, I'm an 84er and it's damaging to the game.

    Votes: 267 44.3%
  • I don't care either way, I'm a new comer

    Votes: 29 4.8%
  • I don't care either way, I'm an 84er

    Votes: 66 10.9%

  • Total voters
    603
As an 84-er myself, I think Frontier should (a) change the bits of the game they want to change, (b) listen to anybody with anything useful to say, but with zero obligations (c) entirely ignore how old the people making suggestions are.

Games and gamers are more sophisticated these days. Trying to make it more like Chuckie Egg isn't going to work. Although it might please me!

yeah... so...?

at what number of people would the poll be statistically relevant...(its like turning rocks into bread)
It depends on how many play the game.
If it's 60 000, the number would be somewhere around 550 and 600 votes.

marvelous, thank you.

so, getting rid of the pre-skewed answers... and it would have some degree of relevance if the authentication of each voter was possible.

Interesting.

This is the typical "echo chamber" thread. A handful of backers got their way and now feels entitled to "know what David Braben wants" and also to imply that "the newcomers" are entitled, spoiled, inept and need / want an easy game.

The thread should be closed because the OP is baiting and trolling. This is the least productive and most idiotic poll I've seen on this forum so far.

Yeah, if we got our hands on the data of active players and we could authenticate every voter, we could get accurate results.
This of course would require neutral options.

I Agree with this, elite should be dangerous. And also the Devs shouldn't change things just to please the new crowd.

I've put in quite a lot of money into this game, and really only for this game. Being an 84er and paying into premium beta, skins, Rift, gtx970 and a new ECU, MB, memory. I've easily spent £1000+ and I know a lot of others that have paid that kind of money into this game just because of the promise of a rebuild of the classic Elite.

All the input through the beta stages seems to be worthless if they start to change the game to accommodate the £35-£40 new comers.

That's so patronising, just because your an old codger with loads of money does'nt mean you've any more right to tell the dev's what to do with Elite than any other person who's bought into elite.

Maybe just maybe the young guns and newcomers have something to contribute ... it would do you some good to find some humilty and remember that as a person get's older they get set in their ways and it's the people with fresh ideas and energy that push the world forward :D

Wow. Two days in a row I get to post this.

Come on chaps. I'm a teacher and an old git too. Yet every day I get challenged by my students (some of whom were born this century ) to look at my views and reconsider them in light of the fact that time changes everything. Of course, the younguns ain't always right but that doesn't mean their views don't matter.

A lot of forumites need to act their age and grow the ability to step back and consider things might not have to stay the same to be good. Or, as my favourite teacher used to tell us when we were being a PITA - act your age and grow a brain.

I'm new to Elite series. Pre-ordered beta edition, played a bit before launch but tried to not get too into the game or burn out before launch.

I play with a keyboard and mouse (Roccat Tyon <3 ) I've only died twice; once because I was playing at work and had to AFK, the other because I took a look at my right UI menu and caught a Plasma Accelerator shot in the grill and ker-ploded instantly...which was totally my bad for being cocky.

I started off trading, I liked it but it got a bit boring, tried mining.. the act of gathering the ore made it horrible and I quit that.. so then I went on to try Bounty Hunting -- Ahh, this is it, I always wanted to bounty hunt in games, should have tried it sooner.
I got frustrated but kept coming back for more as I learned how to gear out for and to kill an Anaconda for bounty missions. Twice I lost cabin pressure and barely got out with my life. It was great fun and excitement, despite the frustration... and the first time I succeeded I nearly yelled "SPLOOSH!"

But, now.. I've amassed 2.8 million credits, and tricked out a Cobra pretty well with nearly all of that money, good amount of A grade parts, at least with the best parts I've been able to find if nothing else.

But, now... I am just planning on hoarding money, upgrading a bit more, and either going to raid Empire space and raise hell, or keep saving for an Asp then do that -- there is not much challenge to be had other than hopefully by players, and saving until a Python and/or Anaconda is good and all, but boring if I can't get any excitement along the way.

I am near the Alliance homeworld, I've only seen 2 or 3 players since launch... given the popularity of the Alliance on that poll I saw I find that confusing. So, needless to say I only have NPCs to keep me company I hope for more challenge to be added to the game along with balancing things out so more professions and such are viable.

Although, I did have an interesting incident today, bounty hunting at Extraction Site, I think I made a cop hate me...because they ran into me... I had zero wanted status, but 3 or so of them turned on me -- I think you may have made your NPC Cop AI a little too close to the real world. :p

Love the game, I look forward to the game getting better and better. Peace... (Death to the Empire, though...and Federation while we're at it...)

TL;DR -- more rewarding challenge, thanks.

I didnt fit into any of the poll options because I joined the Elite games with Frontier so I didn't vote, but I would say that I am sick of people suggesting alterations to the vision that Frontier obviously have, for personal reasons usually to enable them to make a quick profit.
