Dedicated Mining vessel

We have dedicated Passenger Liners, yet best passenger ships are Pythons and Anacondas
We have dedicated Combat ships (Alliance, Feds), yet the best combat ships are FDL, Mamba and the Kraits.

I'd say the Chief rates as far as combat ships go. Also to me the Mamba and FDL seem to fit the combat ship ethos so it feels like combat ships are doing pretty well on dedicated boats.

Bah, arm your mining boat and tank it up.

Cutter again excels at this. Armed and tanked well enough to eat the face off most pirates, fast enough to bail when outgunned.

Any of the big 3 (or 4 if you will) can be tanked to the gills while still leaving ample room for mining but yes, the cutter is something else given the optionals and engineering. It's a nut that should never crack.

Python is, in my opinion, the most versatile and "fun to fly" miner. D2EA has an excellent build overview of a very similar build. I call mine the "Queen of Diamonds" :)

I use a python to get my diamonds from station to market, saves me a fuel scoop on the cutter.

I've mined in python and cutter, I prefer the cutter, i can get surface and deep core gear in, have a 256 cargo hold and still have 3 respectable autocannons.

When I consider my requirements for the best miner in open, I keep coming back to the Federal Corvette. The next best is the T10. Perhaps if a dedicated mining ship had the same internals and hardpoints as the vette or T10, it would be interesting. They would have to dedicate a bunch of optional internals to mining gear in order to call it a "mining only" ship.

As someone looking to improve their own T10 mining outfit, how do you tank yours?

Why the vette over the Cutter?

For me cutter wins on speed, slot flexibility and having you in the nose so you get close to the rock.

As a dedicated Vette Miner fan:
  • better distributor
  • better mobility/agility
  • 256 tons is the most I can stand to mine
  • Core Dynamics > Gutamaya :p

I'm with you on 256, lose too much selling more than that.

However the perfect place for the melted plastic of Gutamaya is in the ice belts, where as my Vette is put to proper use slaughtering people.

Seeing as mining is a big part of a lot of peoples game, surely one of the shipmakers would have released a ship that is focused on mining activity. With enough small to medium module slots to fit enough collector controllers and all the required mining equipment without having to sacrifice shields or cargo space. 3 variants should be released based on cargo capacity.
The type 10. :)

Hmm, I like where the OP is going - new ships with more modules and hard-points - then we can stack them with MPR / HRP and they will be the new combat metas - cunning!
Yeah that's FDevs fault for not being remotely capable of designing the sort of game they are selling.

Every time this sort of thing comes up I am just gonna glare at EvE's amazing examples of what can be done with dedicated ships, even if you completely ignore the fact that Elite will never be capable of such large battles with its current engine.

The Cutter and Python are my favorites, But the Type-10 is a runner-up.

After doing Borann in a Cutter, I stop by in Anderson in Irula where I've located a size 6 scoop and a size 5 Guardian FSD booster. Then I go to sell the 522 tons much more quickly!

When I'm using the Python it's because the only station with a good selling price is an outpost or because I'm doing core mining.

The implication is that non-mining vessels will be debuffed greatly such that a dedicated vessel will be both required, and not necessarily better than the currently best option in terms of credits/hr.
I can't see that anywhere in the Op...

But hey, sure. Let's make it so no ship except the dedicated miners can fit mining equipment. Make one Adder-size, another T6 size, and another Python-size. Stealth-buff to piracy while we're at it :)

That's what "implication" means.

Also I'm sorry, I seem to have forgotten where I said that "no other ships can fit mining equipment"? They can be done so that matching current peak rates requires a mining ship. I never said you wouldn't be able to mine without it.

That may have been my mistake on the wording.
Maybe should have said: "A dedicated mining vessel will be both required for, and not necessarily better than, the current best option in terms of credit/s hour.

As for the rest of the discussion, all you are doing it repeatedly pointing out failures of the game's mechanics and FDevs abilities which prevent these things from being viable. You are also clearly very firmly stuck with the current line of thinking on ship functionality and mechanics and not looking beyond simple modules.
